please provide more of a repo as what sims this effects for you or what ones it doesn't so we can have a basis to test this on- I've tried and can't repo it myself
I've added the text file added into the description of the Jira by the poster into a file called crashfile.. i think thats what it is but im not 100% sure. But cleaning up the visual of the jira
Want a repro, Garn?
Visit Insilico sim and flycam around the shops for five or ten minutes. Bear infohub is another good one, orbit around the crowd for 15 minutes and it'll bite you. You can get it at Ahern infohub too but it takes longer, probably because there are fewer textures. Use a quad-core machine for best (worst) results; I've never seen this reported on a non-SMP box. It happens on Vista as well as Linux. "...what sim this affects..." Linking long-standing reports of similar problems.
5-10 minutes.... O.o i can't even flycam steadily for 2 without becoming bored of it or focusing on something. Sounds like an overload problem to me.. just dont flycam around that long then lol easy fix?
I've been hopping to various shops looking for holidays goodies. Crashing left and right, but all of them except this last one the crashlogger poped up and I click send the report. Due to experiencing over a dozen crashes today, there is a way to aggravate this bug. TP to a new place, just stand there waiting for stuff rez, while it doing that, go to another window and do something else, like read /.
A crash is a crash, Garn...
"*** glibc detected *** bin/do-not-directly-run-secondlife-bin: free(): invalid pointer: 0x00007fd049e9cdd0 ***" console dump and gdb full backtrace.
Edit: That funny, the comment had no option to upload file, but the upload file had an option to comment, but the comment went to here. Jira UI bug. You know, I'd be tempted to call this dup of VWR-8841 at this point. Dan and his Tester minions have repro'd something that at least looks like 8841 in several locations.
Garn, flycam is a very useful function, both for a third-person view of vehicle maneuvering, and for shopping without spending a lot of time walking around. It is also needed for machinima, and a pile of other use cases. Sorry if it bores you, but it needs to work properly. If the viewer can't handle rapid movement of the camera, then the movement rate should be capped. But better would be allowing the camera to move freely and fixing the darned memory leaks managing textures. Multicore CPUs and vidcards with large memories are not going to go away, and "almost threadsafe" is not a good place to be. Is this still a problem using the latest Release Candidate 1.22.11?
There has been heavy work on the texture problems in the client. Although I have been getting these crashes, they have been fewer and fewer. I've just open a jira requesting a perimeter to disable crashlogger so I can get a core dump and help the lindens trace down the source of the crashes.
