The Release Candidate 1.22.2 Show only 512M of video memory when this card has 2 Gigs. With Viewer 1.21.6 I have all 2 gigs showing for texture. The slider will not go up any further. This causes a slow down of FPS in comparison with viewer 1.21.6.

We now cap the amount of texture memory used at 512 MB to prevent some driver bugs when using more than that. 512 MB should be adequate for now.

the effects of the cap described by DragonLord Ethaniel clearly shows that it is NOT adequate. for those who never had driver bugs with more than 512 MB, using all their video memory should be an available option
