Inventory jumps on friend's login/logout

Component/s: Inventory
Affects Version/s: 1.22, 1.23 Release Candidate, 1.23
Fix Version/s: None

Environment: WinXP

Last Triaged: 01/Dec/08 12:00 PM

 Description  « Hide
Reproduce:
1. Be sure to set enabled Preferences > Communication > Show online Friend notifications
2. search for something in your inventory, e.g. all stuff you wear currently by searching for "(worn".
3. Then scroll down a page or two and wait until someone from your friendslist logs in or out
OBSERVE: as soon as a friend logs in/out, the focus of your Inventory jumps to the top of the list.

That's quite annoying if you are currently working on your inventory.

Using the RC, I couldn't repro this. As I'm using Vista, maybe it's an XP thing.

This seems very similar to the issue reported here VWR-1457 Friend Online/Offline pop up steals focus from Inventory scrolling.

Please see the comment by Torley Linden - 24/Aug/07 05:49 AM

Several Lindens looked at this and decided it's not worth fixing at this time - but if you feel and many other Residents feel otherwise, you can reopen and vote en masse for it.

If you feel it is the same as issue VWR-1457, please reopen, update Affects Version/s, add your comments and vote to that issue.

Thank you : )

It's not worth fixing at this time? Getting stuff from your inventory is one of the main things you do in Second Life. And the inventory usabilty isn't that good anymore anyway. How much more do you want to let it degrade?
  • If you search something, not all folders with finding get opened
  • Texture picker fetching textures from inventory is sloooooooow
  • Folder open/close always when you not want it
  • tons more that doesnt work as it should

Hi Silver,
can I confirm this only happens when you have Preferences set to (yes) 'Show online Friend notifications' ? In testing this myself, it seems to avoid jumping the inventory when these blue notifications are turned off. I want to check if that is true for you.

Since this is an older issue that is not specific to any particular version of SL, I went ahead and removed the Affects Version as being specific to 1.22.
Thanks for this report- we will continue to collect input and votes on this bug.

Ramzi: Yes, it's only happening when 'Show online Friend notifications' is ON. But still, I want to use that feature AND have my inventory position not messed up by it.
