The video capture option worked one time a long time ago, but its been broken forever!
this needs to be brought back in, or be removed from the menu. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. worked before current as of 3/25/07 but is now broken.

Chilko, can you give more details? I tried it with 1.13.3.2 on a Mac, and it works great for me.

This is one of those nebulous issues that "works for some, but not for others". More info would definitely help.

I'd had movie capture working for me well until the recent 1.18.2. & 1.18.2.1 versions. I have a user report of a viewer crash when attempting movie capture wth v 1.18.2 under Mac OS X.4.8. I am able to replicate this view crash reliably with 1.18.2.1 & Mac OS X.4.10 (unceremonious viewer crash once compression options are chosen and the destination for the file is selected). I've attached my recent concole log of the crash in the hope that this will help diagnose. This is an important feature that it'd be great to have up and running again. Kosmo

Reopening as issue has reoccurred and is repeatable, causes viewer crashes. I've attached a crash log from when I was confirming a resident's report (from ticket 4245060 that I closed but said I'd look into it).

additional OSX console crash log from 'Jengo Klaar', user sent a crash report today too. (this console crash log is Mac OS X.4.9, the previous one I attached was from Mac OS X.4.10).

I was able to screen capture as late as August 3, 2007. - same experience as Kosmo Linden. We are using it in class. Top of the list fix IMHO.

This feature crashes SL on my G5 iMac with nVidia GeForce 5200. After I start the movie, the viewer switches to the MAC desktop to let me name the quicktime file to be created. After dismissing the naming dialog, the screen switches back to SL, but it is all black, and the SL client is unresponsive. After an force-quit to regain control, I found the quicktime file faithfully waiting on the desktop, but it was empty (0 kB) and would not play anything in QuickTime Player.

Closing. Duplicate of VWR-2096 which has already been imported.

Thanks, but this is windows i' referring to, and it doesn't cause a crash in said case.

I've opened a thread on this same issue, before seeing it was already on here. I crash repeatedly as these others do, same way. Using iMac OS X, version 10.4.10 with ATY,RadeonX1600

Huh? this is marked resolved i notice. It so ain't...

Not resolved. Same crash described here in, I have just experienced today, after not trying to make videos in months. Too bad I can't make a video until at least the next SL version, I guess...

Yup, just downloaded client 1.18.5 (3) hoping it would be fixed and nope. Using iBook G4 with OS X 10.4.11 and an ATI 9550. I hate that this feature used to work, now it doesn't and all the SL Wiki says basically is, "We're too lazy to make sure it works properly so go use a 3rd party app." Crashes on my PowerPC G5 too.

There's more of a chance that VWR-2096 will get the proper attention, so I suggest adding information to that issue, though this symptom is a lot less severe than a crash.

Won't FInish – see VWR-2096 for why.
