Under the Edit menu, Preferences, General Tab, there is an option which lets you choose which language you want to use for the viewer. Currently, that list is...
English
Chinese
German
French
Japanese
Portugese
Spanish
This proposal is as follows:
To help new users to Second Life, have the viewer inform the servers on the first connection what language it is using. (This SHOULD be set during installation... if not, it would need to be made so.) Set up various Orientation Islands with documentation in each of these languages. Have the login Server route the users to an Orientation Island that is set up in the same language that they have selected for their viewer.
This lets new users "vote with their feet", and would be a great help to Mentors and other volunteers who have the ability to help in particular languages. They could go to the desired Orientation Island(s) and know that the new users there would be people who spoke that language.
