EDIT: For reporters with this issue please see Beth Jardberg's comment - 27/Oct/09 09:35 PM on VWR-15929.

Try double-clicking the clock in the Windows system tray (in the lower-right corner of the screen), and verify the FULL date and time.

It's possible that your secure login is failing due to an incorrect date/time on your computer.

Objects and the terrain disappear

These are signs that you are (at least partially) disconnected from Second Life. While you're logged into Second Life, you're connecting to several different parts of the Second Life servers (for the region you're in, your inventory, your cash balance, etc.) It's possible to get disconnected from some parts of Second Life and not others.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________

  • My groups are all missing and I am unable to join ANY group at all. (It does allow me to join it but after that it just freezes at the group profile with the 'join' button)
  • My profile shows that I am still in all my groups but..
  • I can't get any notices at all from my groups.
  • I can't tp inworld. I get logged out everytime I try to tp inworld.
  • Cannot access any land information

This problem affects my alt as well.
And I checked, there's no virus or whatever in my computer..

I have tried:

  • relogging several times
  • re-installing SL to be the latest version
  • cleared the cache and the group cache
  • rebooting my computer
  • my connection's fine
  • contacted Support – they REFUSE to help because i don't have a premium account
  • Even when you have premium support they don't help (We were getting somewhere then we stopped getting premium accounts cause we're unfortunatley broke!)
  • tried Prokofy Neva's method of deleting "settings.xml" and relogging

I have tried EVERYTHING and this problem has being going on for 4 days!
I REALLY REALLY NEED HELP WITH THIS, PLEASE!

Thanks.

--------
We try restarting the modem, we try switching ISPs, we try moving the modem and we try moving the comptuer- NOTHING WORKS.
This happens on OFFICIAL, and non official browsers.
I could turn the KBPS up and it still doesnt do anything.

Also issues where there's lag like mad, but the latency and ping to anyhting BUT SL is fine.

Harleen Gretzky added a comment - 27/Apr/09 05:12 AM
You probably want to run with the graphics in low, under Edit>Preferences>Graphics tab Quality and Performance is set to Low. Might also want to make sure you have the latest graphics drivers. Your Intel chipset does not meet the minimum requirements for running Sencond Life, see Second Life - System Requirements.

Specifically:

** Second Life may not run on graphics cards other than the ones listed above. The following cards are NOT compatible with Second Life:

  • NVIDIA cards that report as a RIVA TNT or TNT2
  • ATI cards that report as RAGE, RAGE PRO, or RADEON 320M, 340M, 345M, or similar model numbers
  • Intel chipsets less than a 945 including Intel Extreme
  • Cards with the following branding: 3DFX, RIVA, TNT, SiS, S3, S3TC, Savage, Twister, Rage, Kyro, MILENNIA, MATROX

Winter Rexen added a comment - 27/Apr/09 11:30 AM
I am having this exact same problem, and I have been running SL fine for years. I know there is nothing wrong with the graphics card I am using or my chipset. Obviously, this is something that needs to be fixed within SL, and I would appreciate a resolution.

Harleen Gretzky added a comment - 27/Apr/09 11:51 AM
@Winter - very likely a different issue then this one since the OP's graphic card is clearly not supported. Can you at least post your environment.

Winter Rexen added a comment - 27/Apr/09 12:25 PM
I am currently using either the most up to date Second Life release client (1.22.11) or the Second Life client (1.22.11). I have the same problem in world no matter which client is used or if another avatar is logged at a different time, so it is not an avatar specific error. I have updated my drivers.

It was working fine this morning. I logged out and when I came back, I could no longer see my groups listed in the communications area. I can not teleport anywhere and get logged out if I try. I can not see land details where I live, and the media and voice refuse to connect and remain unselectable tabs. Sounds like the same issues to me.

Here is the information provided:

CPU: AMD (Unknown model) (2094 MHz)
Memory: 1791 MB
OS Version: Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (Build 6001)
Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc.
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon X1200 Series
OpenGL Version: 2.1.8543 Release

libcurl Version: libcurl/7.16.4 OpenSSL/0.9.7c zlib/1.2.3
J2C Decoder Version: KDU
Audio Driver Version: FMOD version 3.740000
LLMozLib Version: [LLMediaImplLLMozLib] - 2.01.23493 (Mozilla GRE version 1.8.1.13_0000000000)
Packets Lost: 0/918 (0.0%)

As I said before, I have been running SL fine on this very computer, with not one single issue that is notable, so I am comfortable knowing it is not my system at this point.
Thanks for your time and help is finding the problem and helping me resolve things.

Winter Rexen added a comment - 27/Apr/09 12:48 PM
I have been watching when I log in, and I see that the client hesitates when it is "Initializing multi media." if that sheds any light on a possible cause.

Harleen Gretzky added a comment - 27/Apr/09 01:16 PM
Have you tried clearing cache (Edit>Preferences>Network>Clear Cache) and Advanced>Clear Group Cache?

Winter Rexen added a comment - 27/Apr/09 01:22 PM
Yes, I have cleared both caches.

Ellla McMahon added a comment - 27/Apr/09 01:35 PM
Winter, please try resetting your Settings to default (Note that this will reset ALL of your settings, so you will receive popups, as if you had just installed Second Life for the first time)
  • close the Second Life Viewer
  • use the Windows Folder Options to Show Hidden Files and Folders.
  • go to C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\user_settings
  • rename the settings.xml file to old_settings.xml
  • go to C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\cache
  • relog into Second Life and let your Inventory fully load

For a response tailored to your individual situation please Submit a Ticket with Support see JIRA Home page

Please run the TraceRoute How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? and attach the text file to your Ticket with Support .

Please check for any internet security programme issues Is my firewall responsible for problems with Second Life?

Winter Rexen added a comment - 27/Apr/09 06:47 PM
This did not work either. I am still without voice, any media, teleporting, land information, and can not see any groups of mine.

This issue is certainly not resolved.

Winter Rexen added a comment - 27/Apr/09 06:47 PM
This issue is not resolved. And it certainly is a bug that is SL related.

eliz GossipGirl added a comment - 28/Apr/09 07:47 AM - edited
I never had a problem with SL previously even with the non-compatible graphics card.. and my quality and performance is set at low as well.
Previously, my quality and performance could be set at it's highest without any problems.. so i don't think this problem is related to the graphics.
It just suddenly happened out of the blue..

Winter Rexen added a comment - 28/Apr/09 07:50 AM
Same with me Eliz, so I am really irritated to be getting no help in fixing this. It obviously is a problem for quite a few people, I would think they would want to find the problem and fix it so that we can go on spending all those lindens!

I was fine one minute and logged back in to find it all messed up, so I know exactly what you mean.

eliz GossipGirl added a comment - 28/Apr/09 07:53 AM
I know! I used to go into sl almost everyday and sometimes for hours but since this happened, I can't do anything in sl and it is just so frustrating cos no one can help!

Winter Rexen added a comment - 28/Apr/09 07:56 AM
I honestly think it has something to do with media. I notice during log in that it hangs up (the load bar) when it gets to loading multimedia... it will sit there, stalled, and finally move on. Since I can not load any media or voice either, I think it may be related, but I am unsure.

How long have you had your problem? I am so frustrated.

eliz GossipGirl added a comment - 28/Apr/09 08:39 AM
I'm not sure about the media thing but during log in, the load bar also hangs for me when it loads multimedia.. is the multimedia new to the newest version of sl? cos previously, i didn't see such a problem for my previous version of sl..

this problem has been going on for 5 days.. ugh.
what about you? how long has this been going on?

Harleen Gretzky added a comment - 28/Apr/09 08:45 AM
Has anyone with this problem tried to fully uninstall and reinstall SL per the intructions here: How do I fully uninstall and reinstall Second Life?

eliz GossipGirl added a comment - 28/Apr/09 08:21 PM
i tried it.. didn't work

eliz GossipGirl added a comment - 30/Apr/09 08:18 PM - edited
update: when i try to access land information, it tells me that it is not available without server update.

what does this mean?

Adrielle Blaisdale added a comment - 14/May/09 10:20 PM
Hi there, managed to find someone who wrote about this issue. I also recently had this problem and I have the same stats for graphics as eliz. Is there any update on this issue?

Another point to add is using another viewer does not help too.

Thanks loads!

Ellla McMahon added a comment - 04/Jun/09 06:38 AM
For reporters with unsupported Graphics Cards please see System Requirements

Your computer must meet these REQUIREMENTS, or you may not be able to successfully participate in Second Life.

For a further response tailored to your individual situations please Submit a Ticket with Support see JIRA Home page

Thank you : )

Adrielle Blaisdale added a comment - 04/Jun/09 10:53 PM
Perhaps this is not an issue about unsupported Graphics Cards as it could work previously on our computers. If it is solely a Graphics Card problem, the viewer and the world would not have been able to load at all.

I have solved this issue however while reinstalling the viewers.

@Eliz: What I did was to uninstall the current newest SL viewer completely, make sure all the folders are gone. Then, install the 2nd newest viewer and test out. When I did that, I could tp as usual and the landmarks loaded well. After that, I reinstalled the current newest viewer and it worked too. Somehow I believe it is some internal setting that restarted with the installation of the older viewer. No idea, but at least things work now.

Occasionally you might meet the problem again, signified by the landmark details not loading again. When that happens, just restart the viewer and it will be gone.

Adrielle Blaisdale

It's clear this is a recurring bug. Reopening.

My friend had the same problem. The symptoms are:

-Trying to teleport logs you out (no offline message to friends).
-Trying to cross a border is like bumping into a wall.
-I tried to edit my friend out, sitting on a box, but in her view she still was sitting on the box in the same region, even after I deleted the box.
-Groups don't show.
-Logging in stalls during "intitialising media".
-This all reminds of ghosted avatars, but a restart of the region does not help.
-Clearing cache, reinstalling second life, installing latest video drivers, etc ... does not help.

=======

I'm not sure what solved it for my friend. She contacted support, and I asked a Linden for help. The next day she was able to leave "Region California".

Lyndy Enoch added a comment - 21/Jun/09 10:12 AM - edited
Did this issue ever get resolved, as I have the same problem now - exactly as above, unable to tp, groups not loading, unable to access land info to change media stream etc, and can't hear music - been an issue for 4 days now - am waiting for a ticket to be responded to but "chat help" said they thing this is an internet connection issue???

Adrielle Blaisdale added a comment - 22/Jun/09 01:31 AM
Hi Lyndy, did you do anything before this problem arose? E.g installation of the new SL viewer. Try using an older SL viewer version. It might help, that's how I resolved my problem.

Adrielle

gil druart added a comment - 22/Jun/09 09:04 AM
Affects me too since last Thursday

Symptoms:

Log-in slow at the 'initialising media' stage
Adjacent regions not visible at region boundary
Attempt to tp to another region (any method) cause forced log-out
No Group info
No Land Info
Media controls greyed out

Present with viewers 1.22.11 and 1.23.4 (I cannot however confirm whether it affected 1.22.11 before 1.23.4 was installed)

NO repeat NO repeat for benefit of support staff NO changes in hardware at this end. This system has been stable with SL for 18 months+

This bug has occurred before, more than once, see SVC-972 for instance.

I'll repeat what I said last time (nobody listened then either) this is not a bug it is a failure mode. It may have more than one or multiple causes.

I suggest you all submit a Support Ticket 9but don't expect it to help much)

Lyndy Enoch added a comment - 22/Jun/09 12:34 PM - edited
like a previous post, the problem seemed to have resolved this afternoon when traffic lower, however back to normal this evening, and situation is as described by Gil including seeing water everywhere at the edge of sims and not the adjoining land - stared on version1.22 on Thursday, and took update when this didnt resolve overnight, have completely uninstalled and reinstalled a few times now

kayla Mekanic added a comment - 17/Jul/09 11:36 AM
This same problem happens to me a LOT almost every single day. in fact its happening right now and its making me really frustrated. its starting to make me think second life is not that fun anymore since i cant even do anything but build in a little spot filled with lag and yellow submurines...

danni bekkers added a comment - 09/Aug/09 05:53 AM
I have been having the same issue for over a week now, it seems to be intermittent, but is present more often than not. It affects more than one account, full reinstall of SL doesn't help, including manual clearing of cache. Also tried a 3rd party viewer.

My specifics:

Sometimes relogging to a water sim will correct this, but not always. I have tried logging on via SLite, but my groups list remains empty.

I'm having the same issue and i'm totally within system requirments on the desktop.
I use the vista laptop, and while i'm still within system requirements, this issue doesnt happen.
(I'm unable to figure out the problem as my laptop can't run SL but the vista one can.. and that's with my mother somewhere for the weekend)

It happens on multiple viewers, open source, SL and otherwise

those are my stats, and please linden labs i've been on SL off and on since 2006 and 2007, fix this as we've known for years that this is an unstable simulator, and is prone to many growing pains.

I really want to see this get fixed, because i'm tired of missing inventory, groups and more - and being unable to tp sucks the most.
i crash when i tp, i lose items, my groups wont show on multiple accounts .. you name it.

Reopening for a new triage, as suggested by Soft.

This is an easy to recognize bug, and it is known internally. All incoming jira-reports are closed as "contact support".
Support does "something" to make the problem go away. However, to this day it is still unclear to me what that something is.

The bug appears to be triggered by connection-problems. Then it's there to stay, until "something" happens, and everything is back to normal.
What support does is in my (limited) view a workaround, not a bug-fix.

=======

All I ask is for this bug to be tracked on the PJira, for the following reasons:

-Bughunters sometimes find additional information that can lead to a clear reproduction.

-Sometimes the internal Jira gets stuck, and without PJira there's little hope it will ever get unstuck.

-Tracking one bug sometimes leads to finding the cause of other bugs.

-Residents who report this bug on the Jira will feel a lot better when they see they're not the only one affected, and that it's a known problem. Especially when you wrote in your report: "I contacted support over a week ago, but I didn't get a response", and your report is closed as ... contact support.

-Support will have a much easier time when people can just say: "I'm suffering from MISC-so-and-so".

-Ella (and other people who do a remarkable job maintaining the PJira) will have a much easier time when she can just link incoming reports to a central MISC-issue.

K, then...I have the exact same issues as above: No Groups showing, TP causes logout, no media options although the Preference section is checked to play. I tried to submit a ticket to no avail because: although I've been in SL since 2007, and although my husband and I both work in SL and turn over a great deal of money in the SL economy, I am a basic account and therefore do not warrant any support on this issue by LL. Go freakin' figure!

This problem occured out of nowhere; everything was working fine one day, the next is went in the proverbial toilet. Since I hostess 7 days a week and need access to group notices, and also need to be able to GET there, this is a huge problem and there seems to be no one who will help. I have reinstalled SL completely 3 times now, cleared all the caches, done whatever anyone suggests and to no avail. Adrielle, I tried what you suggested and I cannot log in with an older viewer since it now says 1.23.5 is required to use SL.

I have Intel CPU Core2, 3GB
2.5 GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 9800GT video card

Interesting to note is that if I log my husband's AV in on my viewer, he has all the same issues. If I log in on his viewer, all is well in tinsel town.
All this has worked impeccably until this latest major PIA. This is very frustrating and could cause us to give up the "SL experience" if some support cannot be obtained.

Annabel Muircastle added a comment - 27/Oct/09 09:53 PM
I have exactly the same issue....

Janna Harsley added a comment - 28/Oct/09 12:18 AM
K, then...I went back and installed the old viewer 1.22.11 and after logging in the first time on that viewer, all the problems still existed...however after logging out and back in again several hours later...Poof...problems gone and all back to normal. Hmmmm...

It's interesting to note that I did file a support ticket that they finally looked at (guess they figured out I wasn't going away until they answered me) and it was in progress. Did the older viewer solve the problem, or did support do that "something" that Moon refers to?? :~) Those of you still having the problems outlined here...try reinstalling to 1.22.11...might help you too..

Does anyone have an explanation of the most likely technical reasons for this issue? For example, I am trying to debug this for a friend and a description of what is probably happening in these scenarios (dropped/blocked packets on a specific port, etc) would help me to resolve the problem. I have checked the time etc and that does not appear to be the issue. It seems strange that enough data would be getting through to the viewer to log in, see objects, walk around, etc, but some other data is being blocked or lost somewhere down the line. It seems as if in these situations some ports or data flows are blocked while others are working just fine?

Moon Metty added a comment - 03/Nov/09 12:44 PM
Here are some comments from Andrew's office hour:

[2009/10/29 17:55] Andrew Linden: Moon, I'm guessing there is some cert that is getting hashed with the current time.
[2009/10/29 17:56] Andrew Linden: The cert is probably used in some web-services access verification.
[2009/10/29 17:56] Andrew Linden: er.. the hash of the cert is being checked and the server is using its notion of the time

=======

Apparently the clock isn't the only thing that gets hashed.

Joshua Hoch had this bug for over 3 weeks. When we found out about the clock, I called him to check, but it didn't solve the problem.
Then last sunday the US switched to wintertime, and some hours after the change the bug vanished for Joshua. And it didn't return.

Maybe it's worth checking regional settings ...

Tranquillity Dexler added a comment - 03/Nov/09 04:34 PM
My fault. The date and time were in fact wrong. I saw the month being October and as it was just halloween I didn't think anything of it. Setting the month correctly fixed the issue.

Thank you for your help.

Reiko Fimicoloud added a comment - 08/Nov/09 04:51 PM
As told to comment on this issue further as mine was duplicate obviously i'll repost my issue, as none of it has to do with date and time - as all the computers in the house are linked to a time sync thing with windows. Previous comment frmo my sub task: I can't contact support on it as i'm a BASIC user, i do not have a paid account. It only happens once in a while, and i have ALL NEW viewers, i've uninstalled all the old ones and reinstalled new ones, if i clear the cache this happens too!! I crash when tele-porting. my groups wont show up .....this isn't something that is going to go away.If it was an issue i could handle with support - i'd be contacting support, not putting it on JIRA. It's not just me, it's several other people on the second life thing.

PLEASE FIX THIS.
I run a photography studio, and i DJ and i love to shop- this is kinda getting retarded that i can't leave my sim after about an hour of being on SL.

RANT: Is second life only about those who make money for L$ now? Those who are spending money on the paid subscriptions? I can't afford mine, i would love to but i'm in new zealand and i can't pay 200 NZD a year! /end rant (I know LL isn't all about this, it's just that it seems that the people who own more and make more get priority) Unfortunatley i can't afford to pay for a full year subscription, and try to pay for things in SL by just EARNING lol.

I can't IM groups, i can't see my groups..
I'm only missing inventory on ONE of my computers and not the others..

Second Life WORKS on a wireless setting - yes i understand it works BEST on wired - i'm on the wired computer right now, and i can't leave the sim i'm on.

One computer is missing 2000+ Inventory, but the groups and teleporting and uploading issue doesnt happen on that computer (That is a Windows vista laptop running 1gb of ram with an internal nvidia card.)

The computer that ISNT missing inventory, but everything else isn't working (and recently the scripts and objects of mine and several other things stopped working) - Is a Windows Xp Nvidia 512 graphics card - and is the computer that's hooked to the router in a house hold of wireless networked laptops. (Ie: this one is wired)

We're on DSL, we're with Orcon in NZ here.. I dont know what else could be the problem - Regional settings have been checked - SL on the desktop computer should work, as we're in NZ and the clock is set to the correct time and correct time zone

I know people are trying to work their hardest on this, and i appreciate everything people are trying to do to fix this problem ... i dont want to sound unappreciative, but this seems to not end up being dealt with LOL. It keeps getting resolved, and then nothing works again

Thanks in advance!

Im having the same trouble.
More people at the sim confirm they are experiencing the same issue.

You are at 279945.4, 247896.9, 44.5 in Combat Core located at sim3576.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.22.57:12035)
Second Life Server 1.32.0.136920

In my case seems only to be a problem for that sim.
I can TP around the grid without any problems. The problem happens when i teleport to this sim, once in the sim my groups are gone and I cannot teleport anymore. Also neighbouring simulators will not render/rez, simborders are gone and i fly offworld without leaving the region.

My clock has not been changed.

Moon Metty added a comment - 11/Nov/09 03:11 PM
Maybe the clock of the region's host is set incorrectly.

Remember, you can escape the region by choosing a starting location from the login-screen.

^server restart fixed things for now atleast for this particular sim.

Reiko Fimicoloud added a comment - 20/Nov/09 02:49 PM
It happens to me on ANY sim i'm on o_O and any body in this house has the same issue on the same computer. @__@ kinda odd if ya ask me.

I'd be on mainland and it would still happen.. o_O.
Hmm I'll check clocks again, i'll see what i can do..
it just it's REALLY random, it wasnt happening for about a week and it just started again.

It just happened to me today, i log in and for a while everything seems alright ...
then after a while i get kicked off (either viewer, greenlife, secondlife, hippo sim.. cool yo name it we've tried it)
and then i log back in, and my groups aren't working .. i'm unable to create or edit items without them reverting
i'm unable to upload, let alone view sim information...
landmarks say "Place information not available without server update"

I'm unable to teleport without being kicked back off

I restart my computer, chang or update or even uninstall viewers.. and i still ahve the same issue.

Tokyo Enyo added a comment - 27/Nov/09 12:48 PM
I'm gonna mention (Cause Reiko's the same account as me, but i tend to not use her anymore, and Moira's my mother's account) that we're all having the same issue on the same computer, yet recnetly on the laptop (the above information is tailored to hte laptop) - after i teleport to a new location the location info sticks rfom the old place and then within a half hour i get kicked off.

Right now i tried to teleport to Pheonix Unlimited (Rock Candy), and the teleport didnt teleport properly, i was stuck halfway and the parcel information was incorrect - then i was promptly kicked off, and when i logged back in my groups were gone, i'm unable to edit things, same thing as every toher time on this computer

Here are the pathping and Dxdiag of our computers, some people can't actually set tickets or use live chat cause they're not on a paid account. We've set a ticket with our family household under my account (MOIRA) only because we wanted to see if it was really our side or not.

Someone said once it could be the router...
We just got a new router it's a Belkin N1 or N+

Reiko Fimicoloud added a comment - 07/Dec/09 12:43 AM
Supposedly in our house we'd been told the following:
"Your issues could be caused by ports blocking Second Life from accessing the server freely. I advise you check your router and firewall software has the required ports open, to allow Second Life to work correctly.

The ports that need to be opened are:
443/TCP,
12035/UDP,
12036/UDP,
12043/TCP,
13000-13050/UDP.

If this does not resolve your issue, I advise you check that any firewall and antivirus sofware you are running is allowing the secondlife.exe file access to the internet, as any restrictions placed by antivirus / firewall software could be causing this issue."

We've submitted a ticket adn it was closed with that information - However, that being said not everyone's issue is fixed with that... we've never had an issue with firewalls - we use the standard winxp one plus whatever's in the router/adsl modem, and antivirus never complains about SL at all ... we use fairly standard ones. (Avast)

I am posting that "fix" per se not as a way to resolve this, but a check for other people still having this issue.

Reiko Fimicoloud added a comment - 07/Dec/09 12:47 AM
Here's the complete issue:

I will be logged in for a period of time on the desktop (2+ghz processor, win xp sp3, DSL with N+ router, 2gb ram and up to date viewers) , and as soon as it "feels like" per se - it logs me off. When i log back in my groups are gone, i have possible missing inventory, and i am unable to edit anything, teleport anywhere, upload anything or even create anything. Permissions, scripts and everything else goes wonky

Everyone else in the house has the same issue.

We've restarted routers, computers, uninstalled, reinstalled, pinged several places, changed ISPs, gotten new routers..

Basically even checked the time sync on each computer.

Recently this started up on our vista laptop, 1gb memory and up to date viewers. Same tihng, uninstalled, reinstalled - cleared cache, done everything as asked.

Today i've restarted , shut down including the DSL router/modem 7 times. Each time i log in i'm unable to go anywhere, do anything or even see my groups. Voice does not work, music and media are disabled - it's very hard to do anything.

We're starting to beleive this is an issue because we're in new zealand, but have found it's not just us. We have checked each computer's settings, we've checked everything and optimized everything. We've even wondered if it's because of the WPA2-PSK security we have on our DSL router. Having real troubles understanding why this happens every day.

We understand LL is a busy company, but this is such a big issue that it's hard to understand how it isn't getting fixed.. it's pretty weird cause we know not EVERYONE has this issue, but it's a large issue that can stay put for days on end.

Moira Goode added a comment - 07/Dec/09 04:08 PM
We've updated the firmware on our belkin F5D8636, we're on Orcon net NZ , and the only thing that happened was a speed increase. SL still broken, SL still no groups or anyhting >_<

Moira Goode added a comment - 16/Dec/09 03:30 PM
There seems to be this thing where if you open a ticket they tell you it's your firewall, then they tell you ti's your anti virus, then they tell you its your router and it's ports

While this may be true for some people?
It's not for us, and uh.. yea it's been like three weeks and the ticket keeps getting closed >_>

We updated firmware, undid the firewall on the router...
Still have this issue

Tokyo Enyo added a comment - 10/Jan/10 01:40 AM
Somehow someone told me this is a Database issue, and that it isn't a user-end issue.
Again like everyone else once your premium support runs out, epic fail you can't get ticket support.
I was using standard viewer today, and after an hour i couldn't do anything teleports failed, object creation failed.
Very annoying.

Linda Haber added a comment - 15/Jan/10 11:36 AM
Attached are both my Second life log file and crash log. This is a result of a failure to Teleport at 11:14 am PST 15 jan. As usual the falure followed a long period of initialising multimedia during Log on.

I would attach a trace route output but this does not work in Vista. I have however attached TRACERT: to the sim I was in (my home).

There are no noticeable lag effects and the lag meter is showing all greens.

I have not attached details of my modem and router as the problem exists with 2 different modems - I updated to a new modem and different network to my ISP during the period of this issue. As the fault exists on both networks and with both modem these are not the cause. My ISP does not report any latency issues.

I have cleared cache and will be attempting to tp again. This I achived with no problem - it should be noted that the long pause at Initialising multimedia did not occour.

Linda Haber added a comment - 16/Jan/10 11:37 AM
I have been having problems with this again for most of today. - 16 Jan - It is almost impossible to teleport. I have run tracert to my home sim and it is not giving any different results to when I can TP without problems. Ping sim to my home sim is higher than normal though at 180 rather than 130 or so and the lag meter flashes red on server from time to time. I also get a very extended log on - it sticks for ages on initialising multimedia.

My modem has had a solid connection to my ISP with no different settings and synch speeds. I am still getting over 3000KBPS througput on a speed thest to west coast us. My bandwith in the SL viewer is set at max 1500KBPS.

My home sim what showing some lag and only giving 5 - 6 KBPS. a number of atempts to TP there cause me to be logged out

I have the exact same issue as everyone else. I am a premium member, and i have been talking with support for several months now. They even logged into my account to see if it was something with my avatar. They have no clue what it is.

I have checked and confirmed that it is not a firewall or router settings and it is not a problem with my isp. I bought a new computer with a freshly installed operating system and a new graphics card; didnt help either.

It is periodic, although there is no pattern for predictable times it happens. I have also done traceroute with winMTR on windows 7 and there is no packetloss anywhere on the way. I have lowered the viewer bandwidth; no change.

I checked my time and regional settings on windows are accurate as suggested and nothing changed.

The only thing i can think is that this must be a problem with ping and residents from outside USA.

I live in the middle east and my ping is above 200ms on normal days.

If you are from the states and also have this problem please let it be known, otherwise please share your ping (from cmd, not viewer ping meter).

Edit:
Also if you want to know if your problem is packet loss than download winMTR (recommended by LL), search for it on google. If you are on windows vista/7 then you need to disable the firewall for it to work. Wait for at least 100 (the more the better) packets to go through and it should tell you if there is any packet loss on the way. Know that if its only one server in the middle that has packet loss then its probably the server's firewall blocking this check, but if its all servers all the way to LL then the first one with packet loss is where the problem is. 1% is acceptable packet loss, any more and it can be a problem.
To check if its because of internet rush-hour, then run the test at 8:00AM, 12:00PM and 06:00PM, and also check if you a good session with SL without the problems at these hours.

Ok here is the thing...we have had this issue for months and months and months. We had a premium account sl wouldnt fix it. Now we have a non-premium...they wont touch us with a ten foot pole!

I was on sl yesterday and i am based in New Zealand and i crashed over 30 times, i stopped counting! then today i go on thinking it was a week-end issue and boom i am kicked off 6 times in a one hour period!

Its so random too! I will have a week of this crap then it will be fine for a week or so then it begins again. How can sl really believe when we have done all they have said to do as stated in your previous comments that it is not their issue? I mean they are suppose to be the ones controlling this whole thing! If they want my premium account back they will have to work a bit harder at resolving issues rather than skirting around them and ignoring them!

Darwin Recreant added a comment - 02/Feb/10 12:44 AM - edited
I have managed to solve this issue. For me it was switching ISP. It was hard to detect that it was ISP's fault because they were using firewall, in other words, blocking certain connections!! Yup, and they said nothing when i joined them. So better read on your ISP on the internet if they shape certain traffic like they did for me.

Moira: They say it is not their issue because these problems are network related which is out of their reach. But in reality, their servers decide when and when not to drop connections, which explains why you are able to connect to only some of the LL servers. Basically saying, "It is not our problem that your connection is poor because we dont like poor connections"...

Tokyo Enyo added a comment - 02/Feb/10 02:48 PM
We've removed the firewall (I'm moira goode's daughter IRL) on the modem, and only use windows firewall.

Orcon, Vodafone both should work fine with SL - Vodafone we had constant speed issues, Orcon now we're having Quality of Service supposedly issues according to what you just said.

I just read an artcile about how many servers SL runs per 3 users - no wonder we can't connect, it can't manage the load of it's amount of over 3000 servers!

We've upgraded routers, we've messed with virtual servers, Mom's on a WIRED connection with a desktop - yes it's hooked up to the wireless modem, but it serves the WIRED connection to the modem.

She's running Windows XP, Granted yes her fragment rate was over 40% yesterday <_<;; but we managed to get that down and it sounds like it's not making much of a difference. She's running a 2gb ram, 2GHZ + (Dual Core) Intel processor with 512 NVIDA graphics card.

the attenuation rate isnt horrible on the modem, and our speeds aren't THAT bad.

We had premium accounts, they told us it was our fault - and then when we told them we did everythign they told us to they prety much gave up _;';

And their servers are so foobarred and wharrgarbled laetly it's not funny, so their databases and servers should in theory WORK - cept that they have so many they can't understand up from down - so when the servers play up they have n oclue cause it could be 1a or 1b.

I have the same issues that have been stated and restated above, namely no teleports/travel to connected sims, no groups or notices, etc.
I have been trying to deal with these issues since September 18 of 2009 but I can't handle it anymore!

Below is a specific list of my woes:

Groups: Listed on profile, but not available under the Contacts>Groups tab. Therefore, cannot change currently used tag; can only select "none". Can join new groups, replaces existing tag, but still does not appear in Groups tab. When the group's profile is chosen, I am treated as an outsider and not a member.

Teleporting: After login, cannot teleport home, use landmarks, or accept teleport invites outside of the region that the avatar is currently in. Can accept any of these as long as they are within the same region. Cannot walk to or see adjoining sims. Can only change region when choosing it at login. Also, any time the information about a landmark is viewed, the map is shown and in the info box appears only "Cannot retrieve information without server update."

Uploading/Notecards: Cannot upload media (pictures, etc.). Cannot edit existing scripts or make new ones. Cannot edit existing notecards; Can make new ones, but cannot save them. When any of this is attempted, a blue box pops up in the bottom right corner that says "Unable to upload asset".

IMs/Group Notices: Group notices no longer show up in the top-right corner. When offline, I do not receive any IMs; upon logging in, it says "IM delivery capped".

Media/Voice: Will not work even when "enabled" in preferences.

Attempted fixes:

Completely uninstalled, then reinstalled. Tried every viewer known to man, even SLite and the Beta 2 viewer.
Cleared every cache I could find.

And don't try to tell me it's my computer's fault. My laptop is brand new with up-to-date graphics cards. My firewalls have never blocked SL.

By this point, I'm wondering if this is not a server issue. I know that this has been fixed for other people before, so please fix mine as well!

Tokyo Enyo added a comment - 04/Mar/10 11:58 AM
If it's supposedly possible to discconnect from one server but not another, and then the database doesn't work properly, why admit it if you're not going to fix it?

Most of the time when it tells me to change my time, change my firewalls i wonder "What sort of security does SL lack that is going to get me hacked, baked and fried by tomorrow's mcdonalds lunch rush."

We've noticed this even on the imprudence viewer, it doesnt matter the viewer, doesn't matter if you're using a dual core or a single core - 512 or 64 graphics, we get disconnected and it's not our fault.

At least in my household we've tried support, and they refuse to see what our problem is.

It's a server issue, but not everyone has the same =EXACT= server - database issue as us.
Some people it's rectified as a fluke, and it rarely pops up again if at all...

Others like us? Rampantly coming up, my RL mother who is Moira Goode goes in on a monday SLT and gets kicked EVERY five minutes and it's barely even populated. I'ts MONDAY, not Friday she gets kicked off.

Saturdays modnays... what's the difference if ti's not our router?

We've even tried to shut the router down overnight, it DOESNT work - we're still getting problems. So what do we do now? buy another router cause its' incompatible with second life's screwball servers?

Look i dont want to sound like i'm abusing LL staff cause i'm not, i'm stating facts in a frustrated customer service point of view.
If you want your residents/players/users happy, fix the big issues as they come along - OR come about and admit that it might just be too big to fix and tell us why so we can understand it.

As a computer geek who knows a tiny bit, i can see the value of not being able to fix something because it may cause probems elsewhere. But as i beleive SL's constnatly in alpha/beta not for production mode despite it's commerical value, that's the problem. It's probably due it's growing pains, it's inability to keep up with always that extra 200 people in a month that sign up and then sign back out when they freak out at how complicated the viewers are.

and the fact that you get long standing users that want to leave because of this issue? my god, my thought is that if it were anything else - a proper game company, they'd FIX it before it went into production.

Yea, i know second live is a virtual reality of a 3D world, but in a sense it is also an MMORPG to some people - in a sense despite it's simulation value of being similar to EA's SIMS, it's still a game to some people. And games while they're glitchy at best even in production, have major bugs fairly smooth - So why not take a look at the source of the problem?

I dont have objects that dissapear, i'm unable to EDIT them when this problem occurs.

To quote system operators:
Try double-clicking the clock in the Windows system tray (in the lower-right corner of the screen), and verify the FULL date and time.

It's possible that your secure login is failing due to an incorrect date/time on your computer.

Objects and the terrain disappear

These are signs that you are (at least partially) disconnected from Second Life. While you're logged into Second Life, you're connecting to several different parts of the Second Life servers (for the region you're in, your inventory, your cash balance, etc.) It's possible to get disconnected from some parts of Second Life and not others.

my full date and time could be a problem how? - i'm in new zealand, do you want me to change my time to SLT/PST?
Secure login? ....................................................Since when were logins that secure? You tell me to change my firewall turn it off, turn all my security including my router off...

and here i am wondering why we get hacking/viruses after using SL.

Objects and the terrain only dissapear after a failed teleport that causes us to get loged out, and then when we log back in our groups/inventory are borked.
...yes. borked. to the full extent

and partially disconnecting from SL? ..................................................................why so many servers per so many little amounts of people? are you afraid you'll crash one server if you have more then 5 people connected to one piece of land?

I'm all confused at all of this, and it's not aiding the problem.
Snowball doesnt even work with this issue.
