Bumping this old but very relevant issue up to the latest server version, and upping the priority.
Come on LL, this must be very easy to fix - just a few extra database calls. It is incredibly aggravating leading to unintentional breaches of contract and harassment by unexpected aggregated object returns.
Still an issue under Server version 1.24
Still broken in Second Life Server 1.25.1.102854.
There is a workaround. If the new owner of the parcel and objects takes the linked set into inventory and re-rezzes it, upon unlinking it, the child prims are properly transferred. Still broken on 1.25.5.109327.
In addition to this, I had at least one attempt to sell a large build for 0 from one owner to next have the same reflex. Taking thousands of prims into inventory and setting back out cleanly and in correct positioning is NOT an acceptable workaround. Not everyone purchasing such has the skill to handle properly and realign if needed. etc. This should be CRITICAL not just major, imo. This is issue is so bad that some components that I de-link have no ownership at all. But worse, I cannot re-link them and then I am stuck with something I have to build from scratch.
Verson 1.21.6 viewer, server 1.25.5.109327 Suggestion to LInden Labs. Provide a "take ownership components" in the edit dialogue in cases where sub-parts may not have proper ownership. This way, if no edits then no database bandwidth is used. It is only used occasionally when the true owner needs ownership. Fixed in roll-out of Second Life Server 1.27.0.126647 on grid agni.
http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Release_Notes/Second_Life_Server/1.27 As the original Reporter, I'll have to verify that it is indeed fixed. If it's not I will be reopening this issue.
On this day, the Ninth Day of the Month of July, in the Year of Two Thousand and Nine, it is with satisfaction that I can finally say this issue is resolved.
This issue holds particular significance to me because it was the very first JIRA issue I ever reported. At that time I was but 8 months old in SL, and had the blind faith that such an issue would be handled in a swift and efficient manner. Of course now, two years, and 10 days later, I know better. I would like to thank everyone who voted for the issue, your support was invaluable. I would also like to thank all the residents who's emotional support has been invaluable here in SL all these years. Without it I may never have lasted to see this day. I must also thank my parents for instilling an ethic of sticking to things, and seeing them through even against insurmountable odds. And of course I have to thank Seraph, or whichever Linden actually finally fixed the bug. I knew deep down, that one day LL would finally run out of other things to do. A plaque in honor of this day will be erected in Yurim so that others may be inspired. Closes Issue |
