 Description  « Hide
Currently, the object creation and ban options on land parcels apply up to 40m above ground level, whereas object ENTRY options apply all the way up. I propose that, on parcels that disallow object entry, objects may enter above a certain height, say, 40m or 100m.

What happens when the objects fall below the line? Do they pile up on an invisible "roof"?

Andrew Gwynneville added a comment - 27/Jun/07 07:22 PM
Yes, I suppose. This is already what happens when you try to enter a parcel which you can't put objects in, with an object. Only, it's an invisible "wall", no more believable. I'm thinking specifically of roving objects that travel from one place to another, here.

Andrew, you seem to think that everyone rezzes things at ground level. I am about to have an island delivered which will be left as is at ground level, and then a sim-wide city will be rezzed at 500m. This proposal runs counter to the sky developments of SL.

A very very definite NO.

Personally, and I realize I probably won't have ANYONE agree with me, I think it's a nice idea. This proposal would help people with aircraft that fly at very high altitudes to be able to move without hitting a wall, which, I might add, doesn't go well with most vehicles.(IE:They malfunction and either keep going without their pilot(Despite the ban on object entry!), simply freeze, or they freeze and orbit the pilot.)

Perhaps bans on object entry, avatar entry, and such can have adjustable altitudes. This could allow people with objects rezzed at high altitudes to still keep things under control. Just to clarify, I'm thinking that those values could be adjusted independently of eachother.

Also, when avatars hit the "roof" of a sim they're not allowed on, they don't just stay there. They get thrown off.(Trust me, I've hit them enough after having aircraft malfuction, throw me off, dump me onto a parcel that I can't enter, etc.) Perhaps this can be done with physical objects, as well. This way, they don't pile up, because they would get thrown off(Thrown upward and towards the nearest parcel edge), and would(Ideally) not cause too much trouble.

But, meh, just my opinion.

[damn scripty web pages that break navigation]

Akake: the object entry block does not apply to vehicles (or if it does that's a bug).

As it stands I don't think this is a good idea, but if it were possible to protect a skybox region instead of the ground region then object entry MIGHT be allowed below the skybox zone. Even then it's a bit dodgy.

See SVC-2390, linked.
