This missing name problem affects group invites also. I even have one av name that when I open an IM to that av, the tab at the bottom of the window shows a blank instead of the name.
Confirm it happens to me also, no rhyme or reason.
This happened to me late last week and again this morning.
Has happened to me a number of times the last couple of weeks. Just now happened twice.
Here is a screenshot of the no name in transaction problem.
I can confirm I am one of the av's with the "missing" names. When I pay my alt, the payment received window my alt gets has my name missing.
EDIT: I initially thought this was avatar related, but that is not completely accurate, It turns out that if I am in my home sim (Triple Labs, one of the ones that has been upgraded to 1.25 and reverted to 1.24 twice), my name is missing from the payment window when making payments. However, if I go to a different region my name DOES appear as it should in the payment window. Also, objects in my sim that I own which use llDialog menus has my name missing in the menu title. Thanks for the info everyone! We're looking at this and trying to pinpoint the problem. Can you all tell me when you first saw this problem and what version each of you are running?
I first saw it after the central servers were updated for the first 1.25 pilot roll. Then, after the second 1.25 pilot roll, it seemed to be more frequent. Today it hasn't happened to me anymore (with the same locations involved; this would typically be sales in my store. These, as well as the sim I was in at that time, were all sims that were on 1.24 all the time).
I'm running on Nicholaz' BE-y build of 1.18.5.3 myself. A friend of mine saw the same problem with a newer viewer (I am not sure of the version though) with payments from the same avatar, at the same time. If it helps any, I remember two transactions that happened almost at the same time, one with the name showing, one without (to the best of my recollection, at least): 1232144600, Date: 2008-11-19 18:44:09, Region: Missing Beckett, Name missing I also think it started with the first time the central servers were updated to 1.25. I am using the latest released viewer (1.21.6).
It is easily reproducible in my sim, because if you go there (Triple Labs), walk into the lobby, and click on the Demo system control panel, the menu you get will say: ''s Security Panel PRO (Demo) as the title, instead of: Triple Peccable's Security Panel PRO (Demo) which is what you would get it you went to a different region and clicked on the panel. Yes, it appears coincide with 1.25 server rollout. I was using 1.22 public nightly viewer, and 1.22RC0.
After this hadn't happened to me for almost 2 weeks now, it just happened again (1257780146, Date: 2008-12-03 04:20:13, Region: Missing Beckett). Transactions from that same region were fine just yesterday.
This one is strange, because it does not appear to be associated with just sims or just av's. My name is missing from my objects in my sim (creator is blank, owner is blank, menus from those objects show a null name). Those same objects in a different sim shows my name just fine, and menus display properly. This would lead one to believe the problem is related to the sim.
However, other people objects in my sim are fine. Also, if you deed one of my objects, the creator (me) suddenly shows properly, and menus display properly. This makes it look like the problem is avatar related. One more bit of information: If I pay a resident who is "affected" by this problem, and this resident is in my sim, the name is missing from the payment screen. If this same resident is in a different sim, the payment screen is normal. Paying "non-affected" residents always results in the name being intact in the payment windows, regardless of which sim they are in. This does not come and go, it happens every time and is easily reproducible. I am just one of the lucky ones I guess, who happens to be an affected resident and who's sim is one of the affected sims. Same experience as Mosley, just started happening now again after two weeks of working properly.
I found another affected sim – Sentry.
I wonder if compiling a list of affected sims would help? Like Triple says, it appears to be a combination of sim and avatar. I just had two transactions (object sales) in the same sim, different buyers, only minutes apart; the first one had the name missing, the second one showed correctly. (Transaction numbers and times for reference: 1272995620, Date: 2008-12-10 18:25:35 // 1272998945, Date: 2008-12-10 18:27:49; Region: Born West.)
The combinations of symptoms change as the sim is restarted, and still holds true with the V1.25 code (this sim is on the pilot roll list). Four different combinations has occurred:
#1: My name is missing from llDialog titles for objects I own. Deeded object menus shows the proper group name. Stayed this way for weeks. Suddenly I could not get the menu for deeded objects (http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-1815 #2: My name now appears normally on llDialog menu titles, and deeded objects give the menus, but deeded object menus now show (?) (?) in the name field of the menu titles. Restarted sim again. #3 My name is still normal in the menus, and the group name now shows properly too in deeded object's menus. Stayed this way for several days, until today. Today my sim was restarted as part of the pilot roll, and is now running Second Life Pilot 1.25.2.105381 #4 Now my name is once again missing from llDialog menu titles, and deeded objects once again show (?) (?) as the name. Also, since the restart, Total Frame Time is holding at 22.2ms, with no other timers showing why. The frame time before the restart was between 4.0ms and 5.0ms. Even with the constant 22.2ms, I do not notice any lag. EDIT: For some reason this comment will not show 3 question marks in a row. There are THREE question marks in the both of the parentheses above, not just one. Triple, I am unable to reproduce your llDialog() issues in another sim that's running 1.25.2. Dialogs work fine in owned objects, attached objects, and deeded objects.
I noted the frame time issues on commented on them in the forums thread with some stuff I noticed about it. The frequency of the problem has increased significantly since 1.25.2 pilot roll.
This is observed on a region running 1.25.2 server. The menus from deeded objects has changed in my sim. They now show a null name rather than the sets of question marks.
I agree with Latif, it seems even more residents now have their names missing from payment windows. I personally do not feel this is related to server code, I think it is the central servers. The problem started weeks ago, the first time the central servers were updated to 1.25. Since then, each time the central servers are restarted it appears more residents become affected. Vektor Linden was in my sim a couple of weeks ago, was able to reproduce the problem, and collected some data. I am not sure what has happened to that data since then. Triple and I experimented with it in my sim (running 1.25.2) and it didn't seem to be a problem, whereas we both confirmed that it was happening in his region, but only with objects owned by him. So I agree that this is more likely a central database problem that affects some users and only in some regions, and is most likely not due to a bug in the server code. Of course, the fact that it involves objects owned by specific individuals does also mean that it is possible that it is a bug in the asset cluster somewhere, but I think that it would be more likely to be a database issue since it is also only an issue in certain regions (and just to reiterate, the reason it appears in some regions and not others appears to be unrelated to which server version is running).
Another observation: The problem seems to occur only when name is sent to the viewer, LSL scripts (and thus sim itself) get the name of agent 100% of the time.
Just to add to the mix:
I have noticed some names, which have been missing from the payment windows for the last few weeks, are now showing up. Some other names, which have been showing just fine for the last few weeks, are now missing. I'm running latest RC 1.22.3
A few minutes ago I was about to buy a parcel, when I noticed the About Land window wasn't displaying the owner name. I found a group through one object on the parcel and the group info showed the Group Owner field empty. In the About Land window, when I clicked in the Profile button, the parcel's owner profile came up. Everything showed as expected except for the avatar's name. So basically everything about this particular avatar's name was (empty). im running the second latest nightly of the 1.22 build. (the newest one i think came out yesterday and i havent had time to grab it yet). im noticing this not only on transactiosn but on lots of sinage and venders. additionally soemtimes the creater doesnt show up in edit or inspect same as the owner, though sometimes it does. doesnt seem to be rhymre to why it soemtimes has creater and no owner or why it sometimes has neither.
This just started happening to me out of the blue Friday, Dec-12-2008. Has never happened before to me. I at first thought ti was related to the 1.25 roll out, but the sims I am usually in aren't updated. It's very annoying. Running Viewer 1.21.

Second Life 1.22.3 (105377) Dec 10 2008 23:07:51 (Second Life Release Candidate) You are at 214220.3, 299832.4, 1248.2 in BNJ RP Island located at sim7111.agni.lindenlab.com (8.10.144.113:13002) Beginning yesterday (December 13th, 2008) and continuing through today (December 14th, 2008), any avatar on release candidate 1.22.3 fails to have their name recognized by scripts. Additionally, L$ transactions to an avatar on 1.21.6 fail, though L$ transactions FROM an avatar on 1.21.6 to an avatar on 1.22.3 succeed. Tested as follows: 1 - Vendors that send instant messages regarding who has purchased an object show that " has purchased your object" (as in, no name). 2 - Using a script that queries to an external PHP page, returned "owner-name" to the object. Avatar on version 1.21.6 received correct indication of name. Avatar on version 1.22.3 received a "blank" response (no name returned). I'll try to do a bit more playing around to see if I can come up with any further details. Comment here - EVENTUALLY the L$ transaction TO the avatar on 1.21.6 went through as an addition to their L$ balance, but NO notice of the payment being made to them was given (as is normal the case in payment transactions). Testing was done on both 1.21.6 and 1.22.3 with the exact same scripts, on the exact same region, with separate results - indicating that the issue is VWR based rather than SVC based. It's possible that the issue is with both VWR and SVC ... but it seems a separate/tag-along issue to SVC-3441 ... not a duplicate. This issuer appears to be related to a problem I am having. When on the Vinogradov sim, on my land, I do not show as owner or creator of any of the items I own and create. On items that i have purchased, I do not show as owner.
In my inventory, while on the Vinogradov sim, my inventory does not show me as owner of anything. I should note that the region in question is mainland. The owner portion of the properties is BLANK. Any hud attachments or scripts which use owner verifications fail. Any hud attachements that us llownersay fail. I have requested a restart hoping for it to be fixed. This has to be fixed!! Why pay the prices we do (I have over 23000M here so it is around 100US for the tier plus the two premium accounts that were purchased just for having this little corner of mainland) to not be able to use our land? To wrap up my problem in a few points:
This issue is extremely serious. In effect I have become persona non grata on my own land Its seems that the number of cases has increased dramatically. Bumping up severity to critical.
First time ever, I had a friend on my friendslist showing with no name - profile didn't show his name either.
This issue is pretty serious, because it is not only in the friendship list. I noticed this "bug" yesterday... In seems to happen to new residents...
In the name of the profile: name is missing Today I banned a new resident, and in my banlist : name is missing, only show a blank line In my hippo reports of my selling, residents names are missing, which is a problem if I have to give this costumer support Please take a close look at this, because this is a serious problem! p.s. Some people just do not show up in the payment blue window with name. Just saying "paid you 100L$" or some other amount they paid. Some others show up though. I think it could have to do with privacy settings in their profile perhaps? Edit: Just had another avatar showing no name in that payment info window, looked them up in the SL history who paid me there, and searched her profile and no name is displayed on it. That name field is totally blank, and if i click the IM window i see again, different names in the chat history. I've had this happen lately as well. I am at the moment running RC 1.21.6 but had have it happen at the stable as well I believe. For me this has only happened with incoming money transfers and they where all coming from HippoVend 2.x (mono) vendors if that is relevant (I have no clue at all).
The script messages coming from vendors still show names. Transaction log still shows names in transfers. At one occasion I have had the balance not changing after a incoming transaction. This got corrected after a login. I can DEFINETLY confirm. About 1% of my transactions since September have this issue.
Having the same problem constantly with transferring funds to one of my alt's. The name of the alt is blanked out in the friends list and the all familar "you paid 500$L" appears. This is also from incoming transactions my customers make, so rather impossible to keep track of financial stats. Not changed viewer since I was last forced a version that keeps crashing..
/edit/ A month old ticket and still unassigned? Maybe it's not big of a deal then if we don't know where our money goes.. Hmm, I belive the problem may lie with referring to the avatars. Since this just occured with the "Friends" list as well ,where some names of my friends remain blank at times, while on others they have full names.
The thing is that the transactions still show up in the transaction history though with the right address/source. This is probably a client side problem of the client not displaying the name/info required, while the servers seem to do it just fine. It now happened again and I investigated further. See attached image "screenshot-2". I am running 1.21.6(99587) at server version 1.24.9.98659. The customer was at a server running Second Life Server 1.24.9.98659 as well (Bellatrix region). The transfer does show in transfer log. The one initiating the transfer HAD enabled "hide my name in search".
Another incoming transmission, same thing but this avatar was not hidden in search.
-Resident name is not showing in money transfer dialog majority of the time.
-Name of Resident not showing in full Profile when found through Search majority of time. -When opening new IM from full Profile found in Search, no name appears in IM box, unable to determine who conversation is with until chat begins. Ok I have found a number of people whos usernames show as BLANK in their profile are using a bot program called Pikkubot. It can be seen at Pikkubot.de and the guy tried renting a place from me to sell this bot program.

Top left - missing AV name in Friend List Very hard to do something with so many AVs not showing names. It's really urgent to fix this as since yday it's all over the SL, not just some few random avs. I noticed this too on my sim that still runs the 'normal' server:

We did friends for a later conversation and now the name is blank, even if i open the profile of her the name is blank. I also have some blanks in my customers group, is very funny to try to talk to such people. And I get also funny log off messages like this here now: [12:01] is Offline \o/ Viewer is 1.21.6 PS: The calling card I have shows the name of that one though, but if double click on it it opens the profile with blank name. I noticed one of these yesterday whilst in fastlane sim.
I have changed the title of this issue as we are seeing multiple places Names are not appearing.
The viewers of users who are showing blank that I could track down included the Nicholaz old school, the restrained life, the newest RC, the current production viewer.
I have problems with no owner showing on my inventory items when I examine them with properties. Also scripts requiring an owner verification do not work for me on the Vinogradov sim where my land is located. HOWEVER things are normal on other sims. Viewers I have checked this with include Nicholaz old school, the normal production viewer and my :default: viewer, the newest RC As for the payment info and profile info being blank, I doubt that it would be bots as bots do not make purchases. Important, this does not look as viewer problem as there is also problem of data sent by llHTTPRequest missing object Owner Name on certain sims (see
And it's just LSL script sending out some data and some HTTP module at server side sending the rest - and that rest is missing Owner Name (while owner UUID is sent ok). So looking for "which" client is doing that look as dead end. It has something to do with rollbacked upgrades from yesterday. While i know that there were some blank names in past, they were never that much, And llHTTPRequest communication was working good since yesterday. I've had missing friends on my list for the past few days. Making me think it's not a viewer issue but something that's happened since the last server roll out.

Pleas note that is must be an INTERNAL PROBLEM. In my post I allready stated that I see this problem also appear in my database from my hippovendors. So in mine opnion it has nothing to do with the viewer, nor the software your computer is running. See the screenshot I attached... Hi, I am also facing this issue with my friends list and my group for my club. I can't see the names. They are invisible and when someone who works at my club is tipped or someone tips a dancer it says IS......Love to know who IS is. Other then that, the transaction page is working fine and I can see who tipped who and who received what.

I TPed to another sim, logged out and logged back in with My last location ticked. When I rezzed inworld, my profile had fully recovered and remained intact when I TPed back to my own sim. For extra info, I used the PSGII sandbox. I have an object on my sim without name now (everybody can check it
 ) from one AV with no name. I also tried to select items for return in about land that don't show a name, but it selected only the temporary items i have in my shop here. Reminds me of the old temp bug i reported once (http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-787 ) where it selected also the temp items for other users.
And yes, the work around is really working now. At least my friends list is good again. But still 8 objects in my about land that i can't find and have an empty name Hmm now the blank name in my friendslist is back, so the workaround doesn't work as permanent solution. This issue has suddenly got a lot worse........I am noticing a lot of cases of people with blank name on their profile.
Soetimes relogging different sim server resolves, a freind couldnt see me on private sim despite reloging. proffil came up but with no name attached to me but when she relogged in another isme different server i showed up on her friends list so it appears that its a server based issue.
The "fix" worked for some things. Thank you very much for posting it Spirit. BUT scripted objects that depend on user info seem to still malfunction on my land for the av Inferno Nightfire. It is group land that is owned by me and my alt (both premium) on mainland.
The Bloodlines items that scan an av including myself do not fuction on my land still. The problem is not the items as they function on other sims. I did however have a problem when I had my home set to my sim and did a TP home. The problem seemed to reoccur. One of my avatars has his name missing in other's friends list...just a blank space...but if you click on it, his profile WILL come up. When I go to "pay" him from another of my avatar accounts it just says "pay resident." When my other avatar opens his profile his name is missing from the top. It is NOT missing when opened in his own account. This problem happened all of a sudden. I have had his account for several months and did not have this problem until now.
UPDATE: As I described below, it seemed to be fixed, but the problem got back (I was afraid of that anyway...) So, the 'fix' works only temporarily... My name is invisible again on everything...
— I was an 'invisible avatar' too. NOWHERE where my name was expected, it was shown, neither to me, nor to others. I noticed this 2 days ago in ROMA and I had the problem too in Warung and other regions. Kelindra's 'fix' seemed to work for me: I went to Ahern, logged out, logged back in there. After that my name was visible again (to me and to friends). I hope it stays this way and I hope this helps in any way solving this bug. Three avs were used in the testing.
Inventory items my friend- everything normal unless I was the creator of the item then the creator was blank. If my alt was the creator it showed as normal While the "fix" does show me as owner and creator I still have problems on the Vinogradov sim with scripted items that use owner information. Hi! My account also that presenting these problems, and is not new, I created the account in January 2007. My friends can not see my name in their contact lists, appears only a blank line.
I am a content creator, and my creations appear with the name of the designer blank. This issue came up is a 4 days - 12/15/2008. I have a lot of invites and repeated contact card on my inventory of some friends but they still not able to see me, I've updated the viewer on Mac and didn't worked yet,
i have a bot in SL which waits for money transactions in one place and now it receives such description during receiving money ' paid you L$1' without avatar name which paid money. If everything is working normally then it should receive i.e. 'Auris Surface paid you L$1' with avatar name which paid money.
I've noticed that this issue depends on source from which SIM money was paid and not from SIM where receiver is. i.e. paying money from SIM 'ZoHa Islands NE' always fails and paying from SIM 'Oberstdorf' does not repeat this issue. First time I've noticed this issue one week ago. It's very important that this issue would be fixed ASAP because it is related to money transactions and now we are not able to run our business normally. Four days ago (12/15/08) my name disappear from EVERYTHING I have created that is rezzed in world including script menus. My name does not show up on ANYTHING. Not even on the About Land Object tab!! and I have builds that cover half a sim. I can rez something I made years ago and no name will appear as creator or owner. I logged my alt in and the name/owner appear just fine. It is only my account that this has occured on.
At first, I thought it was just a fluke but it has been four days and nothing has changed. The sim Blue Blazes, where this has occured. is a fairly new sim and I know there have been some issues with it. I have been logged off due to sim issues (it was definately NOT my connection) several times. The sim was down for about an hour couple of weeks ago due to issues. And now this. I left for 2 years mainly because of issues like this and I've ben back not even 4 months and things are worse than ever. Issues that were reported 3 years ago have never been fixed. Instead of continually adding new bells and whistles why not fix things that have been messed up for years?? Oh yeah I forgot... Welcome to SL... love it or leave it... either way it's broken and going to stay that way. EDIT: 12/19/08 12:54 PM SLT/PT NOT. I can also confirm the missing names in friends list as it's been happening and still happening to me. i'm on Second Life Viewer 1.21.6 (99587). I went to land of one of friends that their name isn't showing in my friends list and yep sure enough any of her objects doesn't show her as owner just shows blank. I had wife come to same sim she checked and that persons name shows for her. Very weird.... come on LL get this problem figured out already geez...

It did not affect editing my own items, but I wasn't able to filter for my possessions on my land because the sort didn't find a name attached.
Re-logging during the day did not help, but by the next day my name had returned. The problem has been intermittent and unpredicatable throughout the last two weeks. The prim it isn't there but in phisics it is. On the state menu I see the object but can't return, the same takes cycles from the server resources causing lost heavy scripted prims.

I also show up as a blank on my alt's friends list, on my profile, as well as my partners profile. All of my in world objects show with a blank spot in the owner name. I have also had random issues with friends showing up blank on my friends list as well as me showing up as a blank on theirs.

It is "game stopping". The extent of this bug is huge. Im going to side on the side of safety, and cease all transaction within secondlife until it is straightened out. With a bug of this severityI fail to believe the security of no copy items can be guaranteed. Then add to that the inability for prim counts by rental boxes and such to work effectively, pretty much sacks rentals. I have this problem as well.. no more name on profile, friends lists, partners box has been cleared, and items that i make are no longer identified as mine, though all of the above issues seem to continue to behave well, as if all the info were still there.
Is there someone from LL watching this thread? I wonder... traci yiyuan The server dev team is well aware of the problem.

We're trying to learn from these things each time we have them, so that we can improve our load testing processes before we hit the regular grid. My issues are somewhat similar to those above, but also worse in some respects:
My contact list is completely gone. My friends list is completely gone. I have no groups list and cannot access my groups. I cannot respond to IMs, I have no IM window. I also no longer have a chat window. I cannot send IMs from profiles. I cannot create objects on my own land. I cannot edit the objects I have created myself or those I own. I have Windows XP, Compaq nw8240 laptop. Just uploaded latest viewer, which created the problems with creating or editing obects. Prior to upgrading, I had lost contacts, friends and groups. My avatar name still shows on my objects and I appear in search, and I still have a profile. I cannot provide any screenshots since there's absolutely nothing to see. The problem with contacts, groups and friends started about a week ago. When will the fix be released? In the condition I'm in now, I cannot do anything in SL! I just want to say that our issues with blank names, missing partners, and screwed up prim ownerships seem to have been fixed in the past week. I'm very grateful that LL has taken this matter seriously...

It seems that Second Life Server 1.24.10.106829 fixed my problems at least now.
Deleted prims, still in phisics there, but there's no way to quit that issue restarting the SIM over and over. Too many time with the same issue.
Today after database update, all my lindens are gone!
WTH now that the roll out of 1.26 has started i am seeing the issue again intermitantly when either working with any of the dialog windows it will either show question marks fot the name or no name at all

Problem occurred 1 June 2009. As above. Bloodlines hud would not operate correctly.
When I click on my avatar there is just a blank space space in the pie chart where "friends" should be. I noticed it just after I made the most recent update.
I went back to the previous version and the problem was solved so it is certainly related to secondlife_1_23_4_123908.dmg
Beacon, the pie menu was changed in the 1.23 viewer, which is unrelated to this particular bug.
Stell, if you see this again, can you take a screenshot and attach it to this jira? Thanks. I just saw this occur.
