 Description  « Hide
a larger group of people confirm they can't rez objects older then begin 2007 (for instance objects made in february 2007).

it might be related to the post of a FJ Linden (this guy from AOL?) who said in his initial posting:

http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/09/12/frank-ambrose-updates-on-the-second-life-grid/

  • Asset collection. We're collecting many assets that are on our storage clusters, but are rarely (if ever) accessed. These assets take up critical space on the clusters and potentially degrade performance and stability as we hit volume thresholds. We'll be moving these files to different storage mechanisms and, while they will still be easily accessible, it will help us to avoid pushing the limits of our existing storage clusters, while still preserving all existing assets in a reliable storage environment.

can we get our ancient objects back?

or can we get a description on the 'easy access' method mentioned in here?

thanks,

tx Oh

I can confirm this right now for objects older than 2007-02. (It happens sometimes, that an object just doesn't rez, but this was 5 hits in a row.)

tx Oh added a comment - 07/Oct/08 01:02 PM
i also tried to rez same items on aditi (beta grid) with same negative results.

beside that i recognized that all my sub (sub (sub)) directories i created under 'My Inventory' are now on the same level as 'My Inventory' and 'Library' and content in this directories are not rezzable at all (other issue, maybe).

Nicholaz Edition [Eye Candy] 1.19.1 (4) May 12 2008 17:40:47 (Nicholaz Edition [Eye Candy EC-f]) based on source code by Linden Lab(TM) (http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Open_Source_Portal)

I can confirm that this also happened on the same spec above, but on the current release 1.20.17 client.

This is a show stopper as far as I am concerned and in the absence of any LL announcement to say 'don't panic' I think it should be marked as such.

Due to the nature of SL, it is not possible to be accurate about when an item was last rezzed. The client only displays an 'acquired' date. Personally I cannot rez anything that was acquired before 2008.

There is no current grid.status Edit: there is one now, but it is non specific and not very reassuring report to say there are issues rezzing objects. The most recent one marked 'resolved' is from today, and it is possible that there are still issues related to it abound, however this is not a minor issue and needs immediate attention.

Ditto replicated across two accounts.

Stored Project to inventory (corporate build) cannot be returned to grid. Critical in terms of impact to inworld project.

I have also cant rez the back items. This is very upsetting, especially for us business owners. That is alot of inventory that now we just cant rez. Stop playing games and fix something for once in your life's.

I was able to rez Space Pod V1.1 created by Aurican Sunchaser in June of 2004. It may not be just the age, it may be how long it's gone unreferenced.

WarKirby Magojiro added a comment - 07/Oct/08 05:16 PM
It'd be pretty understandable if such objects took a while longer to rez, as they were retrieved from backup storage, but fr them to disappear entirely indicates a problem

I'll see if I have anything REALLY old to rez

Raudf Fox added a comment - 08/Oct/08 06:29 AM
Most of my missing items are around June and July of 2007, and it doesn't look like I've lost whole lines of dresses, just parts of some colors. Like the Walking Time Black's hat and on the Stroll Time gown, it's the hat and one sleeve.

I'm still going through my inventory of dresses, since these are the ones customers are likely to complain about. I'm going to do my best to replace missing pieces, but I WILL be directing them to submit support tickets concerning this.

I myself can't rez much from my stock of items. Not currently a happy camper here.

Toady Nakamura added a comment - 08/Oct/08 12:33 PM
Problems with stuff from 2007? Today I have crashed 3 times and yesterday 9 times when I was trying to rezz objects from the last few DAYS from my inventory.

My entire inventory disappeared permanently in May 2007 when I was only five months old. The Lindens were very nice, but the inventory was never returned or even found!

After reading this page, I went in to see what I could rezz, older objects friends gave me and such. Everything rezzed out, but when I tried to rezz out what I built at 9 p.m. yesterday, I've crashed 3 times.

The whole point of SL - what separates it from the remainder - is content creation belonging to the creators; one would hope that the Lab's priority would be to keep creative content stable for content developers.

And yes, whoever said it up there; I'm hoping someday to experience an SL world where things stay fixed and work. While never-ending patches, upgrades and releases show constant effort, they also reveal serious underlying turmoil and confusion.

And in the curious mirror that the game holds to our world... At a time when folks are losing their life savings IRL, is really NOT the time to have asset server/inventory issues in SL.

Please see this Grid Status Report http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2008/10/08/post277/

"... [FINAL 10/8 4:58 pm Pacific] The system failure which has been spreading this annoying behavior to additional assets has been repaired. We'll be double-checking the support tickets we've received on this issue as quickly and thoroughly as possible. If you discover another asset in your inventory which will rez in some regions but not others (allowing for rez privileges on the parcel where you try), please file a support ticket https://support.secondlife.com with at least the region name, and the object's UUID if you can capture it from inventory "

Thank you : )
