 Description  « Hide
This is more of a proposal/request than a solid new feature, in the same way as the calls to improve performance (VWR-864) and privacy (SVC-241).

What this proposes is that more Linden resources be allocated toward implementing small new features, or repairing unexpected behaviour in existing functionality.

There are a great many small quirks, faults and so-on in Second Life which are not neccessarily bugs as such, but rather small area that could require improving. A great many of these small changes could have a much larger impact on Second Life, and people's ability to create and build than any of the much larger, big features such as sculpties and Windlight could. While the big features are nice, there are many day-to-day areas of Second Life where a small extra feature could benefit, or where a limit/restriction is found that doesn't need to be there, and which prevents us from making the next great thing, or which just generally detract from our experiences for no good reason.

This therefore is an appeal to have these things fixed, improved or added. Please link any relevant items to this proposal; no straight-up bug-reports on things which are obviously broken, but things that don't behave quite as they should, or small feature requests to improve things (so no big features like Havok X, or telepathic toast making).

To clarify; a bug is relevant if it:
 - Prevents a potentially useful feature from operating
 - Has been broken for a while and is not likely to get much attention otherwise

This discounts things which broke recently, or which stop you playing completely or other things. So bugs which prevent particular creative things that COULD be done, rather than creative things that used to work and have stopped working or can no longer be done for some reason.

Okay, why in the heck is duplicate the default link action, and how in the heck do I undo links?

Aimee Congrejo - 07/Jun/07 08:54 AM
Removed bad duplicates VWR-812 and changed to relates. ^^ To delete bad links click Issue Links to the left of the list of links. XD

Aimee Congrejo - 07/Jun/07 08:56 AM
Linked to VWR-1080, no more wet t-shirts! LOL

Just briefly, I'll mention I get excited about stuff like this -- great usage of a meta-issue, and thanks for compiling, Haravikk and Aimee!

You click on "Issue Links" to the left of the links area to manage and remove 'em.

While some of these may ultimately end up being harder to do than it first seems, keeping track of these is worthwhile for the many which can be addressed quickly, and as alluded to, would generate cumulative, day-to-day benefit. I personally call it "reducing ambient suffering".

Or, small things that make a big difference. =D

I believe a number of them have already been reported internally too -- thus, lemme give our User Experience Designer, Benjamin Linden, a heads-up on this!

Torley Linden - 07/Jun/07 11:33 AM
Designating as "Meta-Issue" so we can find it easier later. Others following this lead and doing a similar sort of thing are encouraged to do the same!

Haravikk Mistral - 07/Jun/07 03:11 PM
Done so with VWR-864 and SVC-241, thanks for the interest Torley!
I'll try and prune out the odd linked proposal that has obvious technical difficulties or is beyond the scope of this meta-issue, I'll comment each time so reporters know why in case I'm being unfair. I'll try and flesh out the post with a better idea of what should and should-not be included. It's a hellish thing to try and define but common-sense should see most people through if they stop and think, I may have linked some myself that when I think about it may not be well-suited =)

Removed: VWR-383 = Resolved
Removed: VWR-458 = Beyond scope of 'small update' due to relatively complexity of the request (presents many potential problems)
Removed: VWR-597 = Resolved

Replaced VWR-278 with its duplicat, VWR-1147, which has a patch and is on its way to being implemented.

Removed VWR-427 = Resolved

McCabe Maxsted - 04/Jul/07 07:18 PM
Removing SVC-251, VWR-1147, VWR-605, and VWR-446 as fixed/fixed internally.

McCabe Maxsted - 11/Jul/07 07:52 AM
Removing VWR-413 (won't fix) and VWR-353 (fixed internally).

McCabe Maxsted - 11/Jul/07 08:07 AM
Added VWR-703 (auto-reconnect) and VWR-1607 (logout to welcome screen) as I think both would be much-welcome small improvements.

Davey Callisto - 11/Jul/07 09:08 AM
Added VWR-1132 after I saw another of my issues ( VWR-1607 ) had been linked here. VWR-1132 is regarding fixing planar mapping on spherical/round objects. I think it fits perfectly with the description of this issue. Doesn't work correctly, hasn't been fixed and doesn't seem likely to be.

Voted too. Nice idea, and well done for taking the time to compile the list!
