 Description  « Hide
Flight at low altitude is now very difficult since the introduction of 1.22.1. If u hover for even a brief moment you are stuck. You have to repeatedly hit the PageUp/Down keys or arrow keys many times in order to move again in any direction. This does not happen at high altitude. I think that a roll back to 1.21 is need. This has been verified by Elle Linden as a result of Live Chat conversation and developer Andrew Linden has also experienced it.

Having read the other issues related to this, I tried flying again today, 1/6/08, at ground level. At first I thought all was well. Hovered, flew up, flew down, then hovered again. STUCK! Took repeated hits on the Page Up key to get flying again, then tried just holding down the Page Up key. That works. There is a very noticeable lag in low altitude flying. This only happens near the ground. Higher up there is no problem. May also be related to the rezzing of objects Jira I ented. At ground level objects rez above the ground, at high altitude, 650m, they are partially in the surface on which they are rezzed.

4.6.08 - Not sure if this getting worse or I haven't tried flying low level in enough places. My partner's home is a seafront property in Dunnylun. Visited there today and flying, or attempting to fly, is far worse than in my home in Bondar. At Dunnylun if u hover for a moment u are really stuck and have to wait ages to move. I only started moving again because I was very near the gound and was able to land and flex legs. I then found the same thing at happening in Bondar but not so severe a freeze.

I experianced this problem as well in the exact same way. Before the full deploy of 1.22 I could move to other regions and the problem would go away. As soon as you cross into a 1.22 enabled region the problem came back. Sometimes a 6 second delay, then a complete failure of the flying buttons. Seems to "reset" once you cancel flying.

In fact in the Linden Bay area its possible that this bug could be attributed to people getting stuck in the trolleys as they cross regions. Can't un sit yourself sometimes using the standup key,or fly anywhere....

More importantly it would be in Linden Labs best interest to COMMUNICATE more on the BLOGS about these issues, rather than have people think its "LAG".

Also before a server deploy COMMUNUICATE to people that may have regions on the beta grid so we can all put our input in? I had no idea 1.22 was even coming let had a chance somewhere to try it out.

The devs have been working on a fix for this, and it's in the final stages of QA now. We're not sure yet whether it'll get pushed this week or next.

Ah...I'm too late. Finally got annoyed enough today to look here, only to find out that not only do they know about, but have a fix in the pipeline, and have even communicated here about. What's the world coming to!!.

In response to one of the above comments...if would be nice to have someplace to look when these things first start happening to you, that says they are known and being actively researched. I can only suspect that the LL actual tech support people might like to know about these things on a simple list also. I'm sure they don't have time to search the JIRA for every symptom of lag, to see if it's new/old known/unknown. Many a support call could be truncated greatly with a "the developers know about this problem and are working on it. If you want to follow progress the JIRA number is..."

Over the past 3-4 weeks, I have had experiences similar to everyone that has posted. It has gotten so bad that I can not even move around on my own land. I clear my cache regularly and relog multiple times and still nothing has changed. Sometimes, the screen will freeze when I try to move which then results in a crash.

Even at the lowest level of graphical performace, I continue to have trouble moving. I seriously just thought it was grid-wide lag or something so I am somewhat happy to know it just wasn't me. However, I wish LL would have posted something about this on the blog so all residents would know. I logged into JIRA today to post a compliant about this very issue and here it is.

This sort of thing can really ruin a users experience. Esp. in those sims that don't allow you to fly and "walking" is your only option. I was at "The World" last night and after about 30 minutes of moving nowhere fast, I had to TP out. Which was sad, because after I read Torley's review of the place I was all excited to go and visit.

I do hope a fix will be provided soon.

Well, don't hold your breath for that fix because even the new server code hasnt fixed it. I tried the preview grid, went on the regular grid to a sim where the new code is running, and nada, nothing new. I have to hold the arrow and up/down keys to get to fly. lol, i even press them real hard, as if that would help...

Seriously, this is more than critical, its a showstopper. If the new server code doesnt fix it, then what? Wait for the next rollout?! gaaaaa

Might be related to a fix they tried for SVC-2013.

Alexa Linden added a comment - 16/Jun/08 02:27 PM
Dup and tied to SVC-1937 which has been imported and is fix pending

Avatar halts/hesitates during movement, walking or flight. While using the arrow keys and asdw keys to move the avatar move 4-5 steps then halts (motion of walking/flying continues) and then avatar moves to where it should have been had it moved as designed. if the left or right arrow keys are used during this motion then the avatar does not halt until a straight movement is resumed.

I hadn't experienced this issue before until today. How soon can we expect a fix? I deal with like 8 private sims, and this showstopper makes things impossible.

Thanks for all the hard work, Havok 4 has been a real nightmare for all of us...

In my own words: I experiencing serious lag like I never had experienced before in SL, and hover instead of flying is only one of the errors in performance I get, I also fall in slow motion, walk in stead of run, and textures and prims load very slow; i check my cables and IP service and is ok. i guess has something to do with your new "Upgrades"
