I have been working to reduce and organize my inventory for some time. I began to notice that the number of items varied from day to day. I lost 4000 items in one night, but was able to retrieve almost 2000. This is not occasional, this is now happening on a daily basis. Every day I get a new, usually lower, sometimes higher number of items. I've lost whole folders full of items. I've lost hundreds of textures, some that I use on a consistent basis. I can't be sure from one day to the next what my inventory will contain. To say the least, this is making me grumpy. Please, someone help before I lose everything, or just quit out of frustration. Example: Last night I logged out with 21000+ items. When I logged in today, inventory only fetched 19000+ items. I logged out and back in, with 'clear cache' and the number jumped to 22000+. I have no idea what tomorrow's number will be.

Erron, have you seen this article in the Knowledge Base; it covers the issues you have raised.

Well... I think this issue should be re-opened. I realize JIRA guidelines are calling it a 'support issue'... but it is NOT. This is not an issue related to one person, requiring an individual response... this is an issue for any number of people I have spoken to, and I have a very similar issue myself.

Not long ago, I began to notice inconsistent results in my inventory count. So... I began to write down the numbers each day when I logged out. Sometimes the number will be the same the next time I log in... for sometimes even a week it will be correct the following log in.

BUT... this does not remain so. I have tried many things to fix the trouble... but the only solution was multiple relogs and clearing cache multiple times. The last time I actually spent THIRTY-ONE HOURS to do this! It took SIXTY-ONE RELOGS and clearing cache NINE TIMES to finally get the number of items 'fetched' to match the correct numbers.

Also... there are other patterns here. For example: if I log in, and search inventory for something (which causes it to fetch my inventory count)... let's say my resulting count is 20,000. Now... I wait a few minutes and log out. When I log back in, and repeat this process, the fetch begins again! Why should it need to fetch anything at all if I have not cleared cache?!

But let me continue this example: So I begin an inventory search again, and it begins counting at say 17,750 items... fetching... fetching... and hmm... now I have 19,000 items. What happened to the other 1,000?! So... log out... log in... search... begins counting at... wait for it... yes... 17,750 items!!!

If I were to make a prim now and add it to my inventory... then log out... back in... search... starts counting at... yep... 17,751 items!... BUT... you never know if it is going to say 20,000... 19,000... 20,345... or some other random count. And what you want is, for example, say... 20,450. But... you never get it.

Why does the viewer "remember" the 17,750... and forget the rest... needing to do a fetch all over again?

Further... why, when I finally DO get the right inventory count... can I log out... back in... search... and INSTANTLY recieve the proper number again?! NO FETCHING AT ALL!!!

Another pattern: if I only ADD to my inventory, it tends to contain the proper count next log in. But if I subtract EVEN ONE item... this all begins again.

I do NOT believe this is a 'support issue'. I am NOT the only one to have this problem... not by a long shot. The very fact that a product for dealing with this problem, 'Second Inventory', is being marketed for SIXTY DOLLARS on XstreetSL... should be ample evidence of that.

I am about to enter into a business venture in SL, but how can I be expected to do business when I cannot even guarantee I can retrieve my own creations from the asset servers?

This is not a problem of the count being spurious either. When the count is incorrect, items are indeed 'missing' from inventory. They are still there of course, somewhere in the asset servers... but if they do not appear on the list in my viewer, they cannot be accessed.

Lastly... the above suggested Knowledge Base link returns an error. No such article is found. So... I guess I will wait until the next time my inventory is FINALLY correct... and then spend the SIXTY DOLLARS to purchase 'second inventory'... so I can at least be assured that my last YEAR of work is somewhere I can actually access it.

I really hope someone will look into this issue. This is not some small problem. I realize not everyone has it... but more do each day... and if that trend continues, business in Second Life WILL become impossible.

PLEASE RE-OPEN THIS ISSUE

thank you

A little further pattern on this issue:

Someone recently gave me an item named "Promo Solstice GXP"... though the name doesn't really matter, but that's the one that led me to this discovery.

Well... a few days ago, a friend was talking about SL cars, so I was going to show her this item. Of course... my inventory was not fully there, as every day lately... but that item happened to be one that was "missing"...

I logged out... back in... opened the 'objects' folder before doing anything else. Now I searched for 'solstice'... and guess what? Yep... there it was.

So... out of curiosity... I logged out... back in... search inventory first thing for 'solstice'....... and it was never found!

Repeated the first process... and found the car. Repeated second process.... no car. This happens EVERY SINGLE TIME.

I suppose opening the object folder before anything else allows the system to focus on fetching just those items or something. Unsure. What I AM sure of though, is that this works every time. I repeated the process TWENTY TIMES... and the results were identical.

Now....... I suppose if I were to open every single folder in my inventory seperately, one at a time... perhaps I could force my entire inventory to load... but do you have any clue how long it would take for me to do that?!!!!!

Further: whenever I open the object folder first... and then search... the search does indeed start at a higher number... but it still has to perform a fetch every time I relog... even though I have NOT cleared cache. And WORSE... every time I do this, the final count is invariably MUCH LOWER than it should be. Sometimes it doesn't even fetch anything further AT ALL.

PLEASE EITHER RE-OPEN THIS ISSUE OR GIVE A WORKING LINK TO SOME SORT OF SUPPORT

Thank you.
