I got a friend to work with me on this a bit today. I found a full perm freebie that was doing this and gave her a copy. She received it no problem but it did the same for her as it was doing for me. It would not rez. She then started going through her own outfit folders and began finding the same thing, attachments that would not attach and gave no error message.
I am convinced this is very wide spread but no one is noticing it yet. I also tried copy and paste on one of the effected objects. It made a duplicate with no problem...but the duplicate would not rez either. I am having the exact same problem. I have a whole folder of Taunt / Sophia hair I bought last year. Only two of the colors will rez. The others won't rez or attach and there's no error message. The hair is Copy/Mod/No Xfer.
It has started to happen with a few other things in inventory too. I have been considering whether this is an ongoing problem or a one time event that corrupted a bunch of items in the data base a few weeks ago. So I went through all the same outfit folders again today that I had determined were problem free a few days ago. I found 3 more folders with dead items.
I can't guarantee I didn't miss these in the first round so I can't say for sure yet if this is ongoing, but I will go through them again in a few days. I know I didn't miss anything this time. I did an inventory search for necklace yesterday and over half the objects that came up failed to rez. I have the exact same problem, actually i noticed it about 2 weeks ago while trying to 'wear' a pair of newly purchased boots, I had the item replaced, same problem, then this weekend i tried to rez a piece of furniture...and found an entire folder full of items that won't rez. Since I have an inventory of over 10,000 I suspect there are quite a few more items, and I'm finding more of them everyday. I've started mentioning this to friends, some of whom own several sims and pay a few thousand USD a month in tiers, hopefully as more of us notice the problem we will move to a higher priority and get some attention.
yeah...my inventory is currently at about 25,000 items (many textures for building - gimme a break <g>). One of the most common things I say lately is "Oh No! Not THAT object!!!" as I discover another prized possession is permanently dead. Many of the things I have are custom designs with no possibility of replacement so this is really starting to hurt.
For the record here is my system info: Second Life 1.20.1 (84760) Apr 15 2008 12:14:46 (Second Life Release Candidate) You are at 258591.1, 232928.4, 4000.0 in Piserchia located at sim3530.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.22.11:13006) CPU: 4 x i386 (Unknown) (2660 MHz) I had this affect three prim skirts and a prim tail. The tail was copyable, and in fact was a copy I had made so I could attach it in a position that didn't conflict with one of the skirts.
I ended up contacting the maker of two of the skirts, who immediately replaced the no-transfer outfits for me. (House of Zen. Excellent customer service!) I tried contacting the maker of the other skirt, and they never replied. The tail I deleted and replaced by copying the original again. As I understand it, if you edit something, the edited version is treated as a whole new object by the database and assigned a new UUID (database item number). I almost always buy white hair and then color copies with the color picker in edit to match outfits. This habit saved most of my hair because many of the originals were dead. I just took one of the copies and set the color back to white to replace the original. But any dead original that I had not made an edited copy of is completely dead.
I had one necklace that I had edited then copied into several outfits. The original was still good but all the copies of the edited one were bad. So apparently it is going by UUID. Hello all (waves) yes this bug has got me too... and not all vendors are thrilled cos bit by bit this is hitting them, along with the disappearing layers issue.. it seems to be hitting my older objects, and the disappearing layers seems to ultimately be fixed by the rebake, or change skirt/layer length to longer/shorter and back to original... but the objects not rezzing or attaching without comment, i can't seem to do anything about... sure contact the vendor and they MAY send another, but other than that, along with objects gone missing from d/base, and just not showing up this is costing bigtime... i am presently buying an open sim and have 60k objects for roleplay etc... and many older items just won't rez, or attach...if i try to rez an object that won't attach it just seems to bounce the inventory without leaving - and never rezzes at all ... I hope someone may be able to help with this..
Second Life 1.20.1 (84760) Apr 15 2008 12:14:46 (Second Life Release Candidate) CPU: 4 x i386 (Unknown) (3000 MHz) I have been thinking that all the dead items seemed to be from the same time period, though I can't be sure. I am not seeing any new losses. So this tends to point to items in a certain storage area in the data base being effected. I'm thinking there is a bad hard drive in there somewhere. So I decided to take a look at some of the UUIDs of the damaged items to see if I could discover anything...and I discovered they don't have any. Right click a damaged, full perm item - copy asset UUID - paste in a notecard and this is what you get...
00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 yet you can copy these objects, move them around in inventory and give them to people EDIT: hrmmmm...well...on closer inspection it seems like half the items I am wearing at the moment don't have an asset UUID...so I guess that isn't significant. I am having the exact same problem. I don't wear attachments very often, but I am having the problem with objects that I try to rez into the world. I also noticed that UUIDs for all objects in inventory (not just unrezzable ones) are a string of 0's. I passed an unrezzable object to an alt, and the alt could not rez it either. Seems like this problem is easily reproducible by passing a bad object to someone else to try rezzing. Hopefully that will help LL to find and fix the cause of the problem, assuming that this issue affects enough people to catch their attention.
I too am having the same problem. Like Cotytto I first noticed it a few weeks ago, but just thought it was an isolated incident. But now the full extent of the damage is becoming apparent. I have discovered hundreds of objects in my inv that behave exactly as described above. For most objects I have backups. But many, many of the objects are no-copy
To summarise, the symptoms are:
EDIT: I've just been on the beta grid and the problem persists there too. I'm seeing this also, as are many of my in-world acquaintances and friends. This has been open nearly two weeks now, without even so much as a single word of acknowledgment from a Linden.
With all due respect, the definition of the existing status of "Normal" reads: "Minor loss or impairment of function, or other problems which have workarounds." That's not at all what we're dealing with here. The Linden-supplied definition of "Critical" says: "Generally, most crashes (particularly if they're easy to reproduce and affect many), content loss, significant memory leaks, greatly reduced performance, etc." This most DEFINITELY involves "content loss", is easy to reproduce by transferring objects (I'm sure one or more could be transferred to a Linden if one were interested), has no apparent workaround and definitely affects many. So, based on the Linden's own definitions, this is clearly "Critical" and I'm changing it to such. It has definately moved to critical for me, after some checking I find i'm nearing 1/4 of my inventory of prims with this problem, mostly older items but effecting various permission types. I can easily reproduce the problem repeatedly. This has gone well beyond a few dollars woth of inventory into hundreds of dollars, and not Linden dollars. I have not seen it yet on any of the prims I have created, even as far back November, it seems, so far, to be only prims created by others.
Interesting ... an initial estimate based on one of my folders of miscellaneous objects is that for me too about 1/4 of them are no longer rezzable. What do we have to do to get a Linden's attention to this? Are things really so bad in SL that this is considered too minor a problem to be worth acknowledging?
I am getting the impression that this is not an ongoing problem but an event that happened about 3 to 4 weeks ago that either destroyed or broke access to a large portion of the data base. It was about the same time that several items vanished from the library, such as the city chic hair. It is still listed but it will not load and it gives and "Item missing from database" error. (although I would not consider losing the city chic hair a bug...that would be more of a feature I think <g>)
Yesterday I did a fresh log in, put on one of my outfits with broken items in it, logged out, and looked at the log file. This is what I found in the middle of the outfit load... 2008-04-22T17:05:23Z INFO: LLInventoryModel::processSaveAssetIntoInventory item not found: eea7c1ab-47e7-1775-b991-f0a6cda248d7 I will attach the complete log file I just found another dead item. The original box for my L$1200 Jakkal's Werehouse wolf avatar won't rez! Tried all the usual things - cleared cache, tried accessing from a completely different computer, etc... It is definitely hosed in my inventory on the asset servers, and not something local to my computer. An L$300 skirt I can replace easily enough, but an L$1200 avatar is a bit much to just shrug and replace.
Symptom is same as with my skirts, earlier. I try to rez the box containing the avatar, and all that happens is the item fails to rez. No error messages, no indication anything happened at all. I did notice this time that the failed item moves in my inventory, temporarily jumping to the top of the date-sorted list in that folder, with a false indication that I had just that instant acquired the item! Going back and checking one of the three skirts mentioned earlier (still not replaced by the merchant I bought it from), that prim skirt shows the same symptom of temporarily thinking I had just acquired it. After a log off / log on cycle it appeared in its normal sort order with the actual acquisition date. But still no ability to rez it. I also tried wearing the box, and tried rezzing it in a nearly empty class 5 sim, so it isn't a laggy location that is to blame. no luck. I guess I need to go through every rezzable item in my inventory and see what else is screwed up. Fortunately this account doesn't own a whole lot of inventory. Kudos to Jakkal Dingo, who replaced my damaged avatar as soon as she got my IM! Great customer service!
I'm having the same troubles too. As a store owner, I have been recently receiving a lot of complaints about objects not rezzing or being wearable. I have confirmed this issue, as I cannot rez nor wear the items in question. I created these objects myself, probably around a year ago. When I open the items' properties box, the creator (myself) is not listed; it says unknown or something to that effect. I have also noted there is a little red masterlock icon next to the minimize tab. I'm not sure if this is related to the issue or not, but I don't recall seeing it before. Anyway, I hope this issue gets resolved before I'm out of business. Good luck everyone
This has moved from high priority to critical to ridiculous for me. About 1/4 of the hair I have along with a number of primmy outfits are now dead even though they are still in inventory.
As someone who also makes & sells clothing, this is just one more thing that makes people reluctant to buy new items. I have been wondering about the error I got in the log...a failure to save the asset to inventory. Why would it be trying to save it to inventory? And then Meridith above noting that it seemed that the item was just acquired according to the inventory sort-by-date. This looks like the program is has a bug that is handling certain items differently...trying to store them into inventory instead of retrieving them.
meanwhile... I just received notice that a solution had been provided to my support ticket on this matter. When I went into the support ticket to check the solution, Frontier Linden had simply provided me with a link to a page of simplistic instructions on how to clear my cache and make sure the search box in the inventory was empty. Is it just me or is that response beyond insulting? and for the record...I am on a Mac with a modified arguments.txt file in the SL program with the -purge parameter set to automatically clear cache on every log in. And in spite of that, the first thing I always do when I encounter a problem is manually clear cache and relog. It is exceedingly obvious that this is well beyond the scope of such simplistic solutions. Frontier did exactly the same thing to my support ticket today. At the top of the notice it says, "We have solved your issue."
HELLO?!?!?! The issue is not solved!!! This is the sort of thing that infuriates people, and LL just doesn't seem to understand that. I am not giving up ... not yet, anyway. I am going to reopen the ticket and keep trying to get some Linden's attention, anyway I can. (When I do finally give up, I will be out of here and never look back.) BTW, I went in-world and tried rezzing one of these objects four times in a row, and then looked at the log file. I could not identify anything there that was clearly related to this problem. There were several warnings scattered through the log, but nothing that showed the same problem or failure 4 times in a row. I don't know what most of the stuff in the log means, so maybe I just missed it. But I am wondering if the fact that no error messages appear when we try to rez these objects means that the system itself is not detecting that there is any problem. Yeah...I reopened my ticket as well. Then I did the same thing you did Almadi. I took off all attachments and clothes. Then logged out and logged back in, attempted to rez a failed object, then immediately logged out. I don't know what most of that log stuff is either and I couldn't even find where I tried to rez the object. I tried this several times with no luck.
When I did it before it was replacing the entire outfit and that was where I got the odd error messages. But as near as I can figure out it isn't even registering that I tried to rez the object. I may try a few more experiments when I get some time. I just pulled out three outfits I had archived in a storage trunk and none of the three boxes will rez. Same identical scenario as everyone else has reported.
The only commonality is that I purchased these items a year ago. Something somehow must have gotten corrupted. Please, LL, bump this up on your priority list. Thank you. Frontier Linden requested I fill out an inventory loss survey. I did so and felt posting my answers here might be useful as well so that those following the situation can stay informed...
Items are not lost. Items are in inventory as described above. They consistently fail to rez under any and all circumstances. There is no relation between these items and any set of circumstances that I have been able to find. There only seems to be some indication that most of the items involved were acquired or last edited last summer.
I would estimate in the hundreds. Just in the clothing outfits I found over 30 folders with items in them that failed to rez.
It would be better to give the UUIDs but for some reason they come up all zeros. It is generally all instances of a specific version of an item, even if it has the same name as another uneffected version. For example, all instances of the hair "The Diva - ltblue" which I had colored a certain shade were dead but the original "The Diva - ltblue" was still good so I was able to replace the lost versions by recoloring copies of the original again. However, the original of "The Diva - sky" was bad and I had not made any modified copies so I have lost it completely. I have renamed it in my inventory to "The Diva - sky x". This hair is from Bewitched Hair and I think they have replaced this one with a newer version. I have not requested a replacement as I am finding not all merchants respond well to such requests. The first loss I noticed was "Psychedelic Dolls by Yoko Xiao Right legs Flexi". After multiple efforts to rez it in world it vanished completely from my inventory. This is the only object that has done that. However it is the only one I made such an extended effort to rez. Multiple requests for a replacement have gotten no response from the maker. I had a version of the "Lei 5" freebie that I had modified some to fit better. It failed to rez and I was not able to recover it from any other version in my inventory. I went back to the freebie place I found it and got another copy that I was then able to rez. I have the bad one in my inventory named "Lei 5 bad" I am able to copy it and give it to others. It will not rez for them either. I can give many more examples if needed.
When this began I had approximately 25,000 items in my inventory, many of which are textures for building. I now have approximately 30,000 as I am sorting through a new batch of textures.
no
The date, place, and circumstances of the original loss are unknown. I began to discover the dead items about 4 to 5 weeks ago now. It was just before the change to the havok 4 servers. The items are now permanently dead regardless of time, place, viewer version, or circumstances. There is also no relation to any of these factors and my discovery of any particular dead item.
Objects only. I have not noticed if any of them were scripted. I do not recall any scripted items among the dead but i wasn't watching for that. Importing this to check out further, I also heard of related issues from Lex Neva – thanks for filling in the details.
I have also received a "solution" to my support ticket and have re-opened it as well. I feel I need to note that this is not happening only to items in inventory. This is occuring with boxed items that are already rezzed in-world and have been for months. The items inside can be dragged to inventory, copied, pasted, transferred etc. Just not rezzed. They cannot be dragged out of the box in world, only into inventory, where they remain useless.
I received another response to my support ticket from Frontier Linden. He said that these objects "are missing from database except no error message is displayed," and asked me to give the full names of 5 objects that won't rez. For everyone's info, I'm copying my reply here:
--------------------------- Botanical - Dark Forest 1 trans (no copy) In the folders I have examined so far, about 1 out of 4 objects is unrezzable. Extrapolating that to my whole inventory, I think there could be as many as 1,000 bad objects in total. So perhaps you can understand why I am anxious to find a solution to this problem. At this point, I do not know whether I should assume these objects are permanently bad and begin deleting and trying to replace them, or to wait and hope that they can somehow be restored. For now, I will just wait. Any feedback you can give about the cause of this problem and the possibility for a solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again, I am very new to SL but I have just encountered the above problem with two rings I have bought - both as presents for another AV
Both rings cannot be worn or even rezzed. I hope this problem can be fixed as soon as possible Regards Riall Caproni I got an e-mail from support last night:
"Solution: We have done maintenance on your account to recover any items that can be recovered, please go ahead and clear Second Life's cache then relog." So I cleared the cache, relogged, then did an extensive search through my inventory checking many of the items I knew to be broken. They are all still broken. Unfortunately I think this is how this is going to end. I read somewhere that they can sometimes recover items if you contact them about it within a few hours of the loss. ok...stop laughing... anyway...at this late date I really don't think recovery of these objects is possible if they truly are missing from the database as Frontier told Almadi. I suspected this was the case right from the start. Unfortunately it is also starting to show up in vendors as Riall pointed out. There are a bunch of items out there in stores that are broken and will not rez. It is only a matter of time before they start showing up. This is clearly a wide spread data base problem. It also seems clear it has no connection to the individual accounts. I have personally helped many people recover lost inventory so I know the drill. I even tried the obscure and questionable trick of going into the beta grid and letting the inventory fully populate there, then returning to the main grid. As I mentioned earlier...I think this is something that happened as opposed to happening. It isn't an ongoing problem but a one time large loss that we are just discovering. As such there is no way to stop it from happening after the fact and the loss is permanent because it has been so long since it happened. I am certain that the individual Lindens fully understand the negative consequences of continued large scale monetary losses like this so I will assume they are making every effort in their internal investigations to determine what caused this. Let's hope they find it and prevent it from happening again. They basically need to start work on a solid database stoploss program to find a permanent solution to these perennial inventory loss problems. I think you are probably right that the objects can't be fixed, but I am not entirely convinced that this was a one-time event. If it happened once, then there is every reason to believe it could happen again, or has already happened on more than one occasion. Until we know what the cause was, I don't think we can rule that out.
I am curious about why a few avatars seem to have been hit so hard by this while there does not seem to be much impact of this variation of inventory loss on the broader populace. I'm basing that on the lack of discussion of this problem in the forums and blogs, and the relatively small number of votes the JIRA issue has received. If other avatars have as many bad objects in their inventories as I do, it seems like they would have to be aware of it and be raising their voices. Oh well, I guess it is time to start thinking about cleaning up the mess and moving on, whatever that means. You are correct, almadi, and that is what I meant. This does stand a high chance of happening again if the cause is not found. What I meant was that it isn't happening continuously but was an event that happened in the past that we are just now discovering the results of. I haven't encountered any newly broken items, meaning ones that I know were good yesterday but are broken now. So the problem isn't ongoing in that sense...but the original cause of the problem is still unresolved and therefore still a potential problem.
Cotytto and almadi, did you not read the comment above from Riall Caproni? If you read that comment, it STRONGLY implies that this IS something which is continuing to happen, not some "event in the past" as you said. Since Rial said they were new to the game, and had this happen with two newly purchased items, the only way those two items could be part of an "event in the past" would be if they were no-copy items, as I believe the standard way things are sold by most creators is that every time one is sold, its actually a new copy, a new item.
sorry, Dallas, but that isn't quite how it works. The way the data base works, the only time a new item is actually created in the data base is when you modify the item to make it different. All instances of the same item are simply links to that one item in the data base. It would be prohibitive to create a new database entry for every identical copy of the same item. selling an item is the same as giving it and you will see if you read the entire thread that several of us have made copies of the broken items and given them to others and the items they received did not work either. I suppose as a test I could set one of these items for sale in a vendor but I know exactly what would happen. You would be able to buy the item and receive it but it would fail to rez.
As a note on why there are so few votes here. I just stopped at HIP and there were two people there asking why things in their inventory were failing to rez. The two mentors standing there simply laughed at them of course. Several people tried to help by suggesting they clear their cache. I did manage to give one the URL of this thread and explained that it is a wide spread problem and clearing the cache won't help. She said she hadn't been in since November 2007 and that most of the stuff in her inventory was failing. She was clearly a knowledgeable and experienced resident and said the first thing she tried was clearing her cache. I suspect there are a lot of support tickets on this...and that is only for the paid residents.
Most people simply don't know about the Jira. On top of that this isn't an official trouble forum so even many who do know about it don't bother. 47 votes is actually pretty high for an issue here. I suspect it is going to grow. It is looking more and more like a huge portion of the data base simply vanished. That is going to be a cumulative loss in the thousands (real money). That isn't going to be taken lightly by the effected residents. In a way, I hope that this does turn out to be a widespread issue seriously impacting many residents. Not that I wish this trouble on others, but maybe then LL would finally give priority to figuring out how to prevent inventory loss. If it is very widespread, then it would seem that there must be Lindens who are seeing this in their own inventories. But I have seen very little discussion of it in the forums, and none in the blogs.
Just another victim here:
I found out about this problem too last week. Almost all my objects that I've made and even bought (I'm loosing a lot of money if this problem can't be fixed) let's say some 6 moths ago (and earlier) and that I didn't use for a couple of months don't rez anymore (other items that I kept on using are rezzing fine). In the last week I've tried to rez them in various ways: in my skybox, on groundlevel, in a public sandbox, with the SL-release candidate viewer, in the latest official SL-prog, on various occasions and on different times of the day, I even tried it by giving it to a friend and let him rez the ebject (same result as for me), nothing seems to work. And I don't get any error mesage at all, if it's a not copyable item it leaves my inventory (when I try to rez it) and it re-appears in my inventory a few seconds later. It was the same case when my friend tried to rez it, also no error mesage at all... . Just a comment: I bought an outfit (if you must know, it was a 1970's green leisure jumpsuit cut down to there) last week and upon the very first wearing, had this issue with both the system pants and the prim bellbottoms. It doesn't happen with just older stuff, is what I'm saying. No error message, nothing. It just shows up as not worn in my Inventory, even when all other parts of the outfit appear normally. Note that to wear this stuff, I highlight the folder containing the clothes, and select "Add to Outfit" from the pulldown menu. When the items don't appear, I go back into the folder and select the missing items individually and choose "Wear" from the right click menu. Whether they actually then do appear seems to be up to God.
But the items you purchased are most likely copies of items that were created some time ago. Copies of unrezzables are also unrezzable. In that sense, this IS an ongoing issue. The original corruption may have been a one-time event that occurred a while back, but now new unrezzable objects are being created every time one of the old ones is copied. This is especially insidious for objects inside boxes and vendors. The boxes may still rez, but they may contain objects that won't rez. Every time one of those boxes is distributed (e.g. at freebie spots) a whole new batch of unrezzable objects is born, and they won't be noticed until the new owner of the box gets around to unpacking and trying to use them. The distributor of the box may never catch on that some of the objects they are giving away are broken. I think these unrezzable objects are going to be a feature of SL for a long time to come.
I've been thinking about this some more, and it seems to me that records for these objects must still exist in the asset server database, but the data contained in those records has been corrupted in some way. That would explain why there is no error message. I'm assuming that when you try to rez an object the system goes to the database and searches for the appropriate record. If the record is not found, then it returns an error message like, "Object not found in database", but for these objects it does find a record and so it doesn't give any error message. It just passes on the bad data in the record to the part of the system that does the actual rezzing, whereupon the rez operation fails without comment. This would also explain why you can copy these objects, give them away, move them from folder to folder, and rename them ... everything except rez them.
So maybe there is a slim chance that if the records still exist and the data in them has been minimally corrupted in some consistent way, then perhaps these objects could be found and repaired. I don't consider that likely, but I'm going to put off deleting these objects for a while yet, just in case. Oryx...reading your last statement, "Whether they actually then do appear seems to be up to God." it seems to indicate that these items do actually load sometimes. It this true or am I misunderstanding. You mention that this is happening with system pants as well. So far I have only seen this happening with objects and once they fail they never rez again, ever. From these indications it sounds like you may be dealing with a slightly different problem.
Yeah, Almadi...it is indeed an ongoing problem in the sense that we still have these objects and they are still failing to rez. And it appears they are still being sold. It would be polite for LL to at least issue some kind of official announcement so merchants are aware of the problem.
To respond to Dallas, Riall was sent here to vote on my recommendation. She purchased the items from me, and I have added a link from my profile directing customers with problems to come here and vote on this issue.
As far as when this "event" occured, I can say I have had no customer complaints about items refusing to rez until about two weeks ago, and I sell items on a daily basis. None of my corrupted items have been created within the last 6 months. So this is a relatively new issue, that is associated with older objects. Today I logged in, and had a notecard that was given to me fail to load. The AO that I've been wearing for two years was unattached, and it refuses to be worn from inventory. This is odd however, because it was attached and working yesterday. I tried rezzing some non-rezzables, and checked the statistics bar. It showed pending downloads, but eventually the number went back to zero, and the items failed to rez. The AO bothers me; it is an older item so I would expect it not to work, if I had recently tried to rez it. The fact I was wearing it yesterday with no issues makes me fear this issue is still spreading to other objects and that further damage is imminent. I did receive a few error messages today: zig - yep - that indeed sounds like a new occurrence of the same problem. I noticed they were shut down for asset server problems earlier today. Not sure if that is related but I would expect errors like those you listed from that.
Since it is a recent loss...if someone in support actually responds right away...they should be able to recover your AO. Well everyone you're not alone...I'm also having the exact same problems rezzing various items from my inventory (full perm chim...tiki torch...shoe attachments...boot attachments) and im also missing two "lost dog" AOs that got detached and disappeared from my inventory... all over the past 3 weeks...Im sure i have other items missing that i havnt discovered yet. Also my best friend just noticed that she has two pair of shoes that wont rezz.
This is a extremely serious issue...I will be sending this jira link to the groups that i own and i suggest everyone else do the same, because most people dont realize whats going on here...I would bet every account on SL has something in their inventory that wont rezz but they havn't really looked for it or noticed it yet. "Unassigned"???? Update/edit: my AO did not disappear and was able to be reattached. Must have been the asset server issues on that day. I may have 10,000 items that I cant rez, but at least I dont walk like a penguin
The prioirty on this needs to be raised.
OK...first off...everyone check to see if this situation has resolved for you and let us know here please.
I just got one of those support satisfaction surveys on this issue. I filled it out with my honest thoughts. Those thoughts haven't really changed even though the situation seems to. I had not responded yet to the last entry in the support ticket because I wanted to give it plenty of time to see if it worked. An hour turned into a day and then I was too busy with other things but I checked my inventory fairly regularly and nothing had changed. Everything that was broken before was still broken. So after filling out the survey I figured it was a good time to respond on the support ticket. I started to write that nothing had changed when it occurred to me that I hadn't checked in the past few days. So just to make sure, I logged in and started looking at all the broken items in my inventory...and they all loaded...every one of them except the very first one that I somehow lost. I'm going to check around and see it maybe I can find that in world. But basically...and I must admit to my total astonishment...somehow this got fixed. I really didn't think it could be fixed. Would be nice to know what fixed it so I know what to telll others with the same problem. Confirmed. I had many items in my inventory broken with the same symptoms, and had exchanged most of the broken ones for working ones, but the broken ones I still had – all magically work again now.
I hope it stays that way and something like this does not happen again ... Edited to add: I wonder if it's related to http://blog.secondlife.com/2008/05/15/rolling-restart-for-half-of-the-grid-friday-morning-2008-05-16/ All of my objects that were exhibiting these symptoms seem to be working properly now. Mine had just started showing the problem yesterday.
Same here. I just got a message on my support ticket telling me to clear cache and try rezzing the objects again. I did that, and so far every object I have tried has rezzed. I haven't tried them all yet, but it looks like at least some portion of them has been fixed.
On the one hand, I am elated to have my objects back. On the other hand, I am seriously angry that it took so long to get any action on this, and that even now we do not know what the problem was or whether it could happen again. I came very close to canceling my account over this. I'm just glad I didn't go ahead and start deleting the affected objects. I still need to go through my inventory and identify if there are any objects that didn't get fixed. The last month has been a horrible SL experience for me. But, as they say, "what does not kill you, makes you strong." :-/ After receiving notice via email that people were able to rez formerly broken items, I logged in and tried my batch. All of them rezzed!!!
As almadi said, I am SO glad I didn't delete the objects. I put them in an "unrezzable" folder hoping this would be resolved! I am VERY happy to have my items back. I don't think this issue is fixed for all items / everyone.
At least one of the items I have created and had for sale at my shop doesn't rezz any longer for me or my customers - it is in my inventory but I can't rezz or attach it, and I don't get any message. When I tried with an alt with a no copy version of this item it dissapears from inventory for a short time but doesn't rezz in world, then after a few seconds it's listed again in inventory. I will keep the "corrupted" versions of this item - if someone at LL wants to look at this item please let me know so I can drop a copy. I'm glad I was able to recreate a working copy because pretty fast because I still had some slightly different copies in my inventory, but if I hadn't kept thouse I guess it would have been lost. I don't know if it's important to find the cause - the two versions that no longer rezz were aquired in May 07and Oktober 07. Other versions that date back as far as February 07 still rezz. Purchased item today a humming bird; Date: 2008-05-17 07:27:30 Description: Malhaven Vendor 1.6.2_Birds2 Region: Malhaven
Item is in inventory, but will not rezz.. Normal rezzing noice and nothing happens. Checked properties of item and show creator as unknown. I am reluctant to buy another to find the same has happened. This is happening far too often now and I have become less inclined to spend any money in SL. Minke and Pumpkin, have you put in a support ticket about your unrezzable items? It's not clear to me whether LL did something that was supposed to fix everyone's objects at once, or if they have been going into one avatar's inventory at a time to fix it. If the latter, you may need to let them know you have the problem before they can fix it. Since we have no info about the cause or the nature of the fix, we still really don't know what's going on. For everyone's info, here is the message I got with the resolution of my support ticket:
"We looked at your inventory and have made an effort to recover any items that are recoverable. It is possible that despite our best efforts, not all items that may have been lost are recoverable. If this is the case please accept my apologies. Before searching your inventory and trying to rez or use any items, clear Second Life's cache then log back in." No Almadi, I haven't filed a support ticket yet, because I was able to recreate this item from the slightly different versions and I have now replaced all the sales boxes that had the corrupted items.
In the process of doing this I found another strange thing about this issue - I had the sales box at two different locations, and one of them was just a copy of the other one. The items in the first sales box were the ones that no longer rezzed, the copies in the second sales box rezzed fine at first, but after trying it a couple of times they were unrezzable as well (and still are, I took copies to my inventory before replacing them with the new ones). Then I checked my SLX sales boxes, I always have a backup copy in another sim - both had the same version in the box, yet only one of them was rezzable, which is something I don't quite understand. I have replaced all of them with the new version as well, but I'll keep checking them to see if they become corrupted again I've checked all the unrezzable objects that I had found earlier, and they all now rez. That doesn't mean that I might not still have bad objects in my inventory. I only ever got around to testing a small fraction of my objects to find the broken ones. But at least at this point things are looking hopeful (knocks on wood).
Almadi, I have reported it, but not expecting any miacles.
I have gone through all the procedures of emptying cache etc, and have never found that solves the problem. I'm just hoping it s glitch. I never put in a support ticket on this issue, and now all the objects I found that would not rez, now do. I have no idea how many items I had really lost between my two avatars. I sure hope it stays fixed.
Yay! It seems that my broken objects have been fixed
I only wish it hadn't taken LL so long to investigate this problem, since it seems to have been easily fixed once they could be bothered to take a look. I've spent many, many days trying to repair what outfits I could, because I too had presumed that these objects would never be recovered (going by LL's track record). It would be nice to know what caused the problem, and even nicer to be reassured that it's not going to reoccur. I have a free account and never put in a support ticket. Some objects that I made myself (and never gave away) were damaged, but are now fixed. So it looks like this was a global fix, rather than a per-inventory fix. Come on, LL....ASSIGN THIS TO SOMEBODY ALREADY!
The latest comments indicate that maybe it's fixed...if so, how? And will it recur? And is it fixed for everybody? We at VooDoo DESIGNS are having the same issue and have a open ticket on it. Ticket #4051-4824204.
This problem first started to show when they changed over to the backup asset servers. We have requested that a blog post go out on this issue and have had yet to see anything on this. Seems to be kept hush hush and I see they still have yet to assign somebody to this posting even. Sad... Very sad... Voodoo's post was what I was hoping wouldn't happen. But we now know several things. This is a problem in the asset servers. It doesn't look like they actually fixed it...the switch in the asset server made the problem go away for some but show up for others. That means if they switch the asset server back, those of us who recovered things will very likely lose them again.
I'm going to keep my vote in on this one. But there is hope now. The problem CAN be fixed and they have another clue. Be patient folks. They tend to assign these things not just on the basis of how important it is but also on whether they can actually figure out something solid to assign. This has been a pretty vague problem as to why one item won't rez and another one will. One thing we can do...now that we have some of these available...it right click the object...click more - then more again - then inspect. (watch out for the mute - I wish they would move that) Write down the dates and lets see if we can find out anything about the age thing everyone has been noticing. I am not sure we will be able to figure out anything from that but it is worth a try...look especially for no mod items. looking for creation dates of no mod items that were broken. All the creation dates on formerly broken items so far have been April 2007 or older.
I have also looked at the acquired date in the properties. It seems to reflect the last time the item was rezzed and taken back. Which means if you have rezzed the item since it was fixed that wipes out any info there. I looked at the properties on one item I know was bad that I hadn't yet rezzed since the fix and the acquired date is May 26, 2007. I know that I have worn it since then. I was just about to do a bit more testing when I found SL is down for database work...let's keep our fingers crossed it doesn't mess this up again. The votes on this are growing fast now so I think we can assume there are more new cases popping up. UNBELIEVEABLE that this has not been assigned . USELESS jira bug reporting at its best
thanks again Lindens for showing us your awesome customer service Just a quick update - the item I had reported above (and multiple copies of it, single linkset) that my customers and I weren't able to rezz on Friday and Saturday are now rezzable again both for me and my customers.
I'll still keep an eye on this and will report it here if I come across more items with the same behaviour. Houses packed in rez boxes are not rezzing completely...all the parts are in the contents of the rez box but some just wont rez. Even if dragged out manually, its like theyre 'not there'
Sad to say Hummingbird still will not rezz. Try everyday! Also discovered a plant in my inventory would not rezz today. Feeling really miffed by all of this.
I, too, have had this exact issue with specific inventory items failing to rez/attach. All items seemed to have been things I bought summer 2007. I noticed the problem first in early April but didn't worry too much about it (the affected items I don't use frequently). However, I continued trying the affected items occasionally.
Amazingly - today they all rez/attach perfectly. Anyone else have dead items come back to life today? Well...miracles do happen. I still could not rez my hummingbird on my island and went to my land at Mpinguari. Lo and behold it rezzed. I had tried here before without success.
So what I did, I copied it while at Mapinguari and went backtto my island. The copied version wil now rezz on my island at Ipala, but other versions before this will not. Most strange! I am happy that I now have my hummingbird, but there is definitely something not right . I see lots of rosy "Yay! It's all fixed" posts here but for every rosy post I see at least one new vote on this issue. This seems to indicate that there are still cases of this out there. Just in case there is any confusion I want to stress that temporary asset issues can often cause issues that seem the same but seldom last more than a few hours and usually effect pretty much everything in your inventory.
This issue is a long term failure over weeks or months of random objects. It only effects objects. If you are still experiencing this issue drop a comment here so there is no question as to whether the issue still exists. If it does I will keep my vote in because it is an important issue. The issue is not fixed as of this time. I filed a ticket on the 16th of May, and my missing objects reappeared the next day. However, my ticket has yet to be looked at. Yesterday some items that a friend made developed the same symptoms. I maintain her vendors for her and several items that she had made just a week ago were no longer rezzing and had to be replaced.
since there has been no more activity on this for several months I am resolving this as needs more info. If someone actually has new information on recent occurrences of this please feel free to reopen it with the new info. However, please make certain first that you are not dealing with any of the more common inventory loss problems.
This issue seems to be alive and well. I had a customer who couldn't rez an old item yesterday. I tried it and also couldn't rez, transferred it to another person and they couldnt' rez either, the item just popped back into their inventory repeatedly no waiting and no error messages.
Same here, as of today March 15, 2009, a customer IMd me because the rez box wasnt rezzing completly. I tested and found out several boxes not rezzing or partially rezzing. But in my experience, I get a message from the rezzer I am using.
Rezzing failure. Check the number of prims free in the sim and try again. Notice I tested this in a land with 4000 prims free (and the build in case was 61 prims), and didn't need right group tag cause was land owned by me and not set to any group... so its clearly the rezzer that detects an error occured that wasnt possible to rez, and tells me the most logic thing (no prims left to rez). I hope that information helps ! Sonya and Satir: LL Have acknowledged Object Rezzing issues in the grid status report for today: http://status.secondlifegrid.net/2009/03/14/post556/
So i'd say it's being looked at, keep an eye on that page for updates as they become available, i hope they fix it soon for you |

I do get the typical error messages on other items. the behavior in those cases is clearly different. I was getting "item missing from data base" on the City Chic hair (yes...i have that set as an outfit so I had to test it <g>).
