I got a friend to work with me on this a bit today. I found a full perm freebie that was doing this and gave her a copy. She received it no problem but it did the same for her as it was doing for me. It would not rez. She then started going through her own outfit folders and began finding the same thing, attachments that would not attach and gave no error message.
I am convinced this is very wide spread but no one is noticing it yet. I also tried copy and paste on one of the effected objects. It made a duplicate with no problem...but the duplicate would not rez either. I am having the exact same problem. I have a whole folder of Taunt / Sophia hair I bought last year. Only two of the colors will rez. The others won't rez or attach and there's no error message. The hair is Copy/Mod/No Xfer.
It has started to happen with a few other things in inventory too. I have been considering whether this is an ongoing problem or a one time event that corrupted a bunch of items in the data base a few weeks ago. So I went through all the same outfit folders again today that I had determined were problem free a few days ago. I found 3 more folders with dead items.
I can't guarantee I didn't miss these in the first round so I can't say for sure yet if this is ongoing, but I will go through them again in a few days. I know I didn't miss anything this time. I did an inventory search for necklace yesterday and over half the objects that came up failed to rez. I have the exact same problem, actually i noticed it about 2 weeks ago while trying to 'wear' a pair of newly purchased boots, I had the item replaced, same problem, then this weekend i tried to rez a piece of furniture...and found an entire folder full of items that won't rez. Since I have an inventory of over 10,000 I suspect there are quite a few more items, and I'm finding more of them everyday. I've started mentioning this to friends, some of whom own several sims and pay a few thousand USD a month in tiers, hopefully as more of us notice the problem we will move to a higher priority and get some attention.
yeah...my inventory is currently at about 25,000 items (many textures for building - gimme a break <g>). One of the most common things I say lately is "Oh No! Not THAT object!!!" as I discover another prized possession is permanently dead. Many of the things I have are custom designs with no possibility of replacement so this is really starting to hurt.
For the record here is my system info: Second Life 1.20.1 (84760) Apr 15 2008 12:14:46 (Second Life Release Candidate) You are at 258591.1, 232928.4, 4000.0 in Piserchia located at sim3530.agni.lindenlab.com (216.82.22.11:13006) Second Life Server 1.20.0.83892 CPU: 4 x i386 (Unknown) (2660 MHz) Memory: 1024 MB OS Version: Darwin 8.11.1 Darwin Kernel Version 8.11.1: Wed Oct 10 18:23:28 PDT 2007; root:xnu-792.25.20~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT OpenGL Engine OpenGL Version: 2.0 NVIDIA-1.4.56 LLMozLib Version: [LLMediaImplLLMozLib] - 2.01.14467 (Mozilla GRE version 1.8.1.13_0000000000) Packets Lost: 0/38696 (0.0%) I had this affect three prim skirts and a prim tail. The tail was copyable, and in fact was a copy I had made so I could attach it in a position that didn't conflict with one of the skirts.
I ended up contacting the maker of two of the skirts, who immediately replaced the no-transfer outfits for me. (House of Zen. Excellent customer service!) I tried contacting the maker of the other skirt, and they never replied. The tail I deleted and replaced by copying the original again. As I understand it, if you edit something, the edited version is treated as a whole new object by the database and assigned a new UUID (database item number). I almost always buy white hair and then color copies with the color picker in edit to match outfits. This habit saved most of my hair because many of the originals were dead. I just took one of the copies and set the color back to white to replace the original. But any dead original that I had not made an edited copy of is completely dead.
I had one necklace that I had edited then copied into several outfits. The original was still good but all the copies of the edited one were bad. So apparently it is going by UUID. Hello all (waves) yes this bug has got me too... and not all vendors are thrilled cos bit by bit this is hitting them, along with the disappearing layers issue.. it seems to be hitting my older objects, and the disappearing layers seems to ultimately be fixed by the rebake, or change skirt/layer length to longer/shorter and back to original... but the objects not rezzing or attaching without comment, i can't seem to do anything about... sure contact the vendor and they MAY send another, but other than that, along with objects gone missing from d/base, and just not showing up this is costing bigtime... i am presently buying an open sim and have 60k objects for roleplay etc... and many older items just won't rez, or attach...if i try to rez an object that won't attach it just seems to bounce the inventory without leaving - and never rezzes at all ... I hope someone may be able to help with this..
Second Life 1.20.1 (84760) Apr 15 2008 12:14:46 (Second Life Release Candidate) CPU: 4 x i386 (Unknown) (3000 MHz) Memory: 4096 MB OS Version: Darwin 9.2.2 Darwin Kernel Version 9.2.2: Tue Mar 4 21:17:34 PST 2008; root:xnu-1228.4.31~1/RELEASE_I386 i386 Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 OpenGL Engine OpenGL Version: 2.0 NVIDIA-1.5.24 LLMozLib Version: [LLMediaImplLLMozLib] - 2.01.14488 (Mozilla GRE version 1.8.1.13_0000000000) I have been thinking that all the dead items seemed to be from the same time period, though I can't be sure. I am not seeing any new losses. So this tends to point to items in a certain storage area in the data base being effected. I'm thinking there is a bad hard drive in there somewhere. So I decided to take a look at some of the UUIDs of the damaged items to see if I could discover anything...and I discovered they don't have any. Right click a damaged, full perm item - copy asset UUID - paste in a notecard and this is what you get...
00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000 yet you can copy these objects, move them around in inventory and give them to people EDIT: hrmmmm...well...on closer inspection it seems like half the items I am wearing at the moment don't have an asset UUID...so I guess that isn't significant. I am having the exact same problem. I don't wear attachments very often, but I am having the problem with objects that I try to rez into the world. I also noticed that UUIDs for all objects in inventory (not just unrezzable ones) are a string of 0's. I passed an unrezzable object to an alt, and the alt could not rez it either. Seems like this problem is easily reproducible by passing a bad object to someone else to try rezzing. Hopefully that will help LL to find and fix the cause of the problem, assuming that this issue affects enough people to catch their attention.
I too am having the same problem. Like Cotytto I first noticed it a few weeks ago, but just thought it was an isolated incident. But now the full extent of the damage is becoming apparent. I have discovered hundreds of objects in my inv that behave exactly as described above. For most objects I have backups. But many, many of the objects are no-copy :-(
To summarise, the symptoms are: * Object will not rez, either by attaching to avatar, or by dragging to the ground. * NO error is displayed. In the case of an attachment you can immediately attach another object to the same point, without getting the "An attachment is pending for that spot" message. * Affected objects all seem to be more than a few weeks old. AFAIK nothing I've acquired since the first occurrence of the problem has been affected. * If an affected object is given to another agent/avatar, then they too see the same problem with that object. Even if they haven't (yet!) observed the problem in their own inventory. EDIT: I've just been on the beta grid and the problem persists there too. I'm seeing this also, as are many of my in-world acquaintances and friends. This has been open nearly two weeks now, without even so much as a single word of acknowledgment from a Linden.
With all due respect, the definition of the existing status of "Normal" reads: "Minor loss or impairment of function, or other problems which have workarounds." That's not at all what we're dealing with here. The Linden-supplied definition of "Critical" says: "Generally, most crashes (particularly if they're easy to reproduce and affect many), content loss, significant memory leaks, greatly reduced performance, etc." This most DEFINITELY involves "content loss", is easy to reproduce by transferring objects (I'm sure one or more could be transferred to a Linden if one were interested), has no apparent workaround and definitely affects many. So, based on the Linden's own definitions, this is clearly "Critical" and I'm changing it to such. It has definately moved to critical for me, after some checking I find i'm nearing 1/4 of my inventory of prims with this problem, mostly older items but effecting various permission types. I can easily reproduce the problem repeatedly. This has gone well beyond a few dollars woth of inventory into hundreds of dollars, and not Linden dollars. I have not seen it yet on any of the prims I have created, even as far back November, it seems, so far, to be only prims created by others.
Interesting ... an initial estimate based on one of my folders of miscellaneous objects is that for me too about 1/4 of them are no longer rezzable. What do we have to do to get a Linden's attention to this? Are things really so bad in SL that this is considered too minor a problem to be worth acknowledging?
I am getting the impression that this is not an ongoing problem but an event that happened about 3 to 4 weeks ago that either destroyed or broke access to a large portion of the data base. It was about the same time that several items vanished from the library, such as the city chic hair. It is still listed but it will not load and it gives and "Item missing from database" error. (although I would not consider losing the city chic hair a bug...that would be more of a feature I think <g>)
Yesterday I did a fresh log in, put on one of my outfits with broken items in it, logged out, and looked at the log file. This is what I found in the middle of the outfit load... 2008-04-22T17:05:23Z INFO: LLInventoryModel::processSaveAssetIntoInventory item not found: eea7c1ab-47e7-1775-b991-f0a6cda248d7 2008-04-22T17:05:25Z INFO: LLInventoryModel::processSaveAssetIntoInventory item not found: 17a6e1b5-846d-4dd6-7e3a-922936c9dffe 2008-04-22T17:05:27Z INFO: LLInventoryModel::processSaveAssetIntoInventory item not found: 204f22c2-1bec-85a8-1f39-0c7ced8c1059 2008-04-22T17:05:28Z INFO: LLInventoryModel::processSaveAssetIntoInventory item not found: 4fc1ee72-fa0b-02bd-6ab4-ceede82940e3 I will attach the complete log file I just found another dead item. The original box for my L$1200 Jakkal's Werehouse wolf avatar won't rez! Tried all the usual things - cleared cache, tried accessing from a completely different computer, etc... It is definitely hosed in my inventory on the asset servers, and not something local to my computer. An L$300 skirt I can replace easily enough, but an L$1200 avatar is a bit much to just shrug and replace.
Symptom is same as with my skirts, earlier. I try to rez the box containing the avatar, and all that happens is the item fails to rez. No error messages, no indication anything happened at all. I did notice this time that the failed item moves in my inventory, temporarily jumping to the top of the date-sorted list in that folder, with a false indication that I had just that instant acquired the item! Going back and checking one of the three skirts mentioned earlier (still not replaced by the merchant I bought it from), that prim skirt shows the same symptom of temporarily thinking I had just acquired it. After a log off / log on cycle it appeared in its normal sort order with the actual acquisition date. But still no ability to rez it. I also tried wearing the box, and tried rezzing it in a nearly empty class 5 sim, so it isn't a laggy location that is to blame. no luck. I guess I need to go through every rezzable item in my inventory and see what else is screwed up. Fortunately this account doesn't own a whole lot of inventory. Kudos to Jakkal Dingo, who replaced my damaged avatar as soon as she got my IM! Great customer service!
I'm having the same troubles too. As a store owner, I have been recently receiving a lot of complaints about objects not rezzing or being wearable. I have confirmed this issue, as I cannot rez nor wear the items in question. I created these objects myself, probably around a year ago. When I open the items' properties box, the creator (myself) is not listed; it says unknown or something to that effect. I have also noted there is a little red masterlock icon next to the minimize tab. I'm not sure if this is related to the issue or not, but I don't recall seeing it before. Anyway, I hope this issue gets resolved before I'm out of business. Good luck everyone
This has moved from high priority to critical to ridiculous for me. About 1/4 of the hair I have along with a number of primmy outfits are now dead even though they are still in inventory.
As someone who also makes & sells clothing, this is just one more thing that makes people reluctant to buy new items. I have been wondering about the error I got in the log...a failure to save the asset to inventory. Why would it be trying to save it to inventory? And then Meridith above noting that it seemed that the item was just acquired according to the inventory sort-by-date. This looks like the program is has a bug that is handling certain items differently...trying to store them into inventory instead of retrieving them.
meanwhile... I just received notice that a solution had been provided to my support ticket on this matter. When I went into the support ticket to check the solution, Frontier Linden had simply provided me with a link to a page of simplistic instructions on how to clear my cache and make sure the search box in the inventory was empty. Is it just me or is that response beyond insulting? and for the record...I am on a Mac with a modified arguments.txt file in the SL program with the -purge parameter set to automatically clear cache on every log in. And in spite of that, the first thing I always do when I encounter a problem is manually clear cache and relog. It is exceedingly obvious that this is well beyond the scope of such simplistic solutions. Frontier did exactly the same thing to my support ticket today. At the top of the notice it says, "We have solved your issue."
HELLO?!?!?! The issue is not solved!!! This is the sort of thing that infuriates people, and LL just doesn't seem to understand that. I am not giving up ... not yet, anyway. I am going to reopen the ticket and keep trying to get some Linden's attention, anyway I can. (When I do finally give up, I will be out of here and never look back.) BTW, I went in-world and tried rezzing one of these objects four times in a row, and then looked at the log file. I could not identify anything there that was clearly related to this problem. There were several warnings scattered through the log, but nothing that showed the same problem or failure 4 times in a row. I don't know what most of the stuff in the log means, so maybe I just missed it. But I am wondering if the fact that no error messages appear when we try to rez these objects means that the system itself is not detecting that there is any problem. Yeah...I reopened my ticket as well. Then I did the same thing you did Almadi. I took off all attachments and clothes. Then logged out and logged back in, attempted to rez a failed object, then immediately logged out. I don't know what most of that log stuff is either and I couldn't even find where I tried to rez the object. I tried this several times with no luck.
When I did it before it was replacing the entire outfit and that was where I got the odd error messages. But as near as I can figure out it isn't even registering that I tried to rez the object. I may try a few more experiments when I get some time. I just pulled out three outfits I had archived in a storage trunk and none of the three boxes will rez. Same identical scenario as everyone else has reported.
The only commonality is that I purchased these items a year ago. Something somehow must have gotten corrupted. Please, LL, bump this up on your priority list. Thank you. Frontier Linden requested I fill out an inventory loss survey. I did so and felt posting my answers here might be useful as well so that those following the situation can stay informed...
* What were you doing when your inventory item(s) were lost? Items are not lost. Items are in inventory as described above. They consistently fail to rez under any and all circumstances. There is no relation between these items and any set of circumstances that I have been able to find. There only seems to be some indication that most of the items involved were acquired or last edited last summer. * How many items did you lose? I would estimate in the hundreds. Just in the clothing outfits I found over 30 folders with items in them that failed to rez. * What were the names of the items? Just list the top 3 using their exact names if possible. It would be better to give the UUIDs but for some reason they come up all zeros. It is generally all instances of a specific version of an item, even if it has the same name as another uneffected version. For example, all instances of the hair "The Diva - ltblue" which I had colored a certain shade were dead but the original "The Diva - ltblue" was still good so I was able to replace the lost versions by recoloring copies of the original again. However, the original of "The Diva - sky" was bad and I had not made any modified copies so I have lost it completely. I have renamed it in my inventory to "The Diva - sky x". This hair is from Bewitched Hair and I think they have replaced this one with a newer version. I have not requested a replacement as I am finding not all merchants respond well to such requests. The first loss I noticed was "Psychedelic Dolls by Yoko Xiao Right legs Flexi". After multiple efforts to rez it in world it vanished completely from my inventory. This is the only object that has done that. However it is the only one I made such an extended effort to rez. Multiple requests for a replacement have gotten no response from the maker. I had a version of the "Lei 5" freebie that I had modified some to fit better. It failed to rez and I was not able to recover it from any other version in my inventory. I went back to the freebie place I found it and got another copy that I was then able to rez. I have the bad one in my inventory named "Lei 5 bad" I am able to copy it and give it to others. It will not rez for them either. I can give many more examples if needed. * How many items do you have in your inventory now? When this began I had approximately 25,000 items in my inventory, many of which are textures for building. I now have approximately 30,000 as I am sorting through a new batch of textures. * Did folders disappear and if so what were their names? no * When did this happen (using Linden World Date/Time)? * What region did this occur in? * Were anything happening shortly prior or when you lost your items including: The date, place, and circumstances of the original loss are unknown. I began to discover the dead items about 4 to 5 weeks ago now. It was just before the change to the havok 4 servers. The items are now permanently dead regardless of time, place, viewer version, or circumstances. There is also no relation to any of these factors and my discovery of any particular dead item. * What type of item was this? Objects only. I have not noticed if any of them were scripted. I do not recall any scripted items among the dead but i wasn't watching for that. Importing this to check out further, I also heard of related issues from Lex Neva -- thanks for filling in the details.
I have also received a "solution" to my support ticket and have re-opened it as well. I feel I need to note that this is not happening only to items in inventory. This is occuring with boxed items that are already rezzed in-world and have been for months. The items inside can be dragged to inventory, copied, pasted, transferred etc. Just not rezzed. They cannot be dragged out of the box in world, only into inventory, where they remain useless.
I received another response to my support ticket from Frontier Linden. He said that these objects "are missing from database except no error message is displayed," and asked me to give the full names of 5 objects that won't rez. For everyone's info, I'm copying my reply here:
--------------------------- Thank you for your response. Here are the full names of 5 unrezzable objects from my inventory: Botanical - Dark Forest 1 trans (no copy) Rock - medium, angular Telescope by Shawn Wheeling Box - But I'm Not The Only One - For Peace (no modify) Hyper-Pan Pipe Composer Edition (HUD) v2 (no copy) In the folders I have examined so far, about 1 out of 4 objects is unrezzable. Extrapolating that to my whole inventory, I think there could be as many as 1,000 bad objects in total. So perhaps you can understand why I am anxious to find a solution to this problem. At this point, I do not know whether I should assume these objects are permanently bad and begin deleting and trying to replace them, or to wait and hope that they can somehow be restored. For now, I will just wait. Any feedback you can give about the cause of this problem and the possibility for a solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you again, Almadi --------------------------- I am very new to SL but I have just encountered the above problem with two rings I have bought - both as presents for another AV
Both rings cannot be worn or even rezzed. I hope this problem can be fixed as soon as possible Regards Riall Caproni I got an e-mail from support last night:

I do get the typical error messages on other items. the behavior in those cases is clearly different. I was getting "item missing from data base" on the City Chic hair (yes...i have that set as an outfit so I had to test it <g>).
