Some groups are RPG groups, and in order to set your 'role' to Barbarian or Paladin for example, you need to IM a group officer. My suggestion is, adding a Join Group floater instead of a simple Join action, allowing you to pick one of the pre-defined "default roles", see the abilities, and see the description. This can also be used in other groups, for city place rentals for example. As in, "Apartment Renter", or "House Renter", "Shop Renter", and so on.
