Linden Lab Issue ID: DEV-10181

 Description  « Hide
Since upgrading from v 1.18.3. I have been unable to travel outside of my initial login region. This includes teleporting, walking, and flying.

This problem occurs with v. 1.18.4.2 (release candidate) ; v. 1.18.4.3 ; and v. 1.18.5.0 (release candidate). All versions are for Mac OS X.

I am able to teleport within the same region, but when attempting to teleport outside of the initial region, the progress bar moves slowly up to about 50% before telling me that I have been logged out of SL. Canceling a teleport results in my avatar freezing, though I can continue to use the IM function.

When attempting to manually cross region boundaries, either by walking or flying, once I cross the boundary, my avatar gets stuck in a linear path that moves through buildings and landscapes until I am involuntarily logged out of SL. When in the linear path, I am unable to teleport.

I have recreated this problem by logging into a dozen different regions, both mainland and off-mainland. Each time, I am unable to leave the initial region without logging out and then logging back into a new region.

Some of this reminds me of an earlier bug, https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-162 – is anyone else experiencing this?

Sent resident an inworld IM asking if he is still experience this.

The same issue has been plaguing myself also. I'm running an iMac core 2 duo intel chip 2 GHz with Mac OS X Tiger, and since using the 1.18.4(3) viewer. I can't teleport out of the sim I log on to. I can't cross the sim boundry without crashing the viewer. If I teleport 99% of the time I crash the viewer (results in a logging out of the region message), and 1% of the time I can teleport, but that is a very rare occasion.

I have tried to adjust my firewall according to past recommendations with no avail.

Cancelling a teleport results in freezing up of my SL viewer.

Alger Meads: Hi Alexa,

yes, when I run any 1.18.4 or the new 1.18.5 releases, the problem is unrelenting.
Since yesterday I've been running 1.18.3.5, so have not had those problems.

Alger Meads added a comment - 19/Nov/07 11:57 AM
I tried the new Windlight First Look viewer (1.18.5.73655) and experience the same problems. Too bad since windlight totally rocks, but I can't enjoy it unless I want to camp in my login region.

Meridian Beattie added a comment - 21/Nov/07 12:54 AM
Have same problem , running OSX and 1.18.4. Cannot tp between regions, was fine in 1.18.3.5.
Seems to be a router problem, as using same configuration from a different location (different router) works normally!
Seems alot of people are experiencing this, but reporting it under different guises.

I am experiencing exactly as above, tp just does not happen and logged out with grey screen. but can carry on im's.

Have played around with firewall settings to no avail, looked at log, and it seems to blocking something it doesn't recognise everytime I tp.

Have been stuck like this since the upgrade, over a week now, have been nowhere, is there a way to download back version 1.18.35 as this worked fine, or at least until fix is sorted.

Alger Meads added a comment - 21/Nov/07 08:24 AM
Meridian and other Mac users who experience this debilitating problem:
While we wait for the newer versions to be fixed, you might try downloading 1.18.3.5 at the following link:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/download-secondlife-com/SecondLife_1_18_3_5.dmg

While this version has its own problems, it at least allows you to travel freely without being booted.

I think alexa misunderstood the user feedback here. Reopening.

I am experiencing the above, i have 2 sims adjacent to each other and in most cases i experience trouble walking , flying from one to the other. This seems to be viewer independent since i have the latest windlight and SL viewer an experience the same.

Also i have experienced a bug which maybe linked to this , i have recently built a bridge to link the two sims.walking from one side to other is ok..however i i then backtrack the otherway ..one section of my bridge on the adjoining sim becomes phantom. If i try to delink when placed across the sim this seems to cause the bridge to have invisible prims ie they are there but u cannot select or remove them.only by a relog can u then see the prims again.

Hope this is resolved soon.

I just tested the new release candidate (1.18.6.0) and experienced identical results: No TP, no region border crossing.

It's like my passport has been revoked on every version after 1.18.3.5

Hope this issue gets some attention from the powers that be, especially for a windlight release. I'm starting to feel like the kid who didn't get an invitation to the popular kid's birthday party.

Alger Meads added a comment - 08/Dec/07 11:22 AM
updated affected versions to include versions not available or tested at time of original issue report.

Removed Affects Version/s of "First Look: WindLight" – as it says when you're editing an issue, "ONLY select a "First Look" if this issue ONLY affects that version." We do this to better focus on FL-specific issues. Thanks!

I am now encountering this problem but with one addition: I cannot even SEE other regions. The region I am in looks like an island on its own. Now to add to this, someone earlier suggested it might be a router problem. I suspect they are on to something. The reason being, I am now at a hotel. This does not happen with my router at home. I first blamed the firewall, but I requested a public IP address which usually resolves firewall issues like "Waiting for region handshake". But it did not resolve this one.

Also, it happens either with Windlight or the regular client. Also tried changing to a custom port.

I've been experiencing this several times a day with the current version. But I'm not sure it's always at a region boundary. For example, it happened once about 50m from the New Albion teleport station. And I saw it happen to someone else at the teleport station.

Im having an issue that looks like this a litle, and i really dont know what to do about it.

I have no problem loggin in or anything, but when i tp, the marker that shows its loading goes really slow forward, and then suddently i hear a bell noise and it says that i have been logged out of this region, and then it askes me to Quit or look at IMs. The screen also turns grey.

When i then log on again, im at that region where i wanted to tp to before..

What should i do about this problem?

Bernard Dewoitine added a comment - 26/Jan/08 02:23 PM
I'm experiencing exactly the same problem on two different computers and with two different SL accounts.
Each time I initiate a TP, I'm disconnected and I have to loggin again.
Is there a workaround ?

anjelee dreamscape added a comment - 30/Jan/08 12:21 AM
Hi, I have never been able to TP - and this describes my exact problem. I uninstalled - reinstalled SL download to 1.18.53 and then more recently to 1.18.64 candidate. I can TP within a region, but cannot TP out, can not fly across region boundary - that freezes me. Every TP I crash, screen greys out & I get the Quit or read IMs message.
Everywhere I go, I log out, then manually type in the name of the region I want to go to. Running Tiger I have:-

Hi, thanks for the continued reports – at the present time, we're not aware of widespread teleport issues that persistently and consistently fail like this. We'd get many more reports if that were so, so I'm wondering if there may be issues with your specific connections, perhaps with your router or ISP. Also a reminder that we do not support satellite Internet, and wireless is unreliable, so if any of you are on that, please try a wired, reliable broadband connection. I'd advise contacting our support for further, account-specific assistance: http://secondlife.com/support

I'm going to import this internally and check with our devs for further info.

Thanks Torley for looking into this again. I want to reiterate that, for me, these problems are not present in the 1.18.3.5 version that I've been hunkered down in. So if it is a connection problem, what is different about earlier versions that would our connection would make a difference? I myself have been using a modestly fast DSL connection, so the satellite/wireless suggestions do not seem apply in my case.

While you look into this, let me throw in another wrench into this issue that I discovered while playing around with all the multiple versions of the viewer that i have on my computer... in all the viewers where the teleport/travel issue exists, I am also unable to upload a snapshot taken in world. This is probably something I should start a new issue for, but the fact that the two problems occur in the same viewers, but do not happen in 1.18.3.5 is curious enough for me to say something... so here is the error message that i got the other day when trying to take a snapshot with the 1.19.0.0 RC:

"Unable to upload 2662d57c-46c2-43cb-b970-77215759f005 due to the following reason: The server is experiencing unexpected difficulties. Please try again later."

Just like the travel problem, i experience this prob with all the viewers AFTER 1.18.3.5. It takes about 40 seconds for this message to pop up after i've given the command to upload the photo.

Anyway, I know this is not necessarily the travel problem, but I hope it illuminates what might be the root of both ills.

Thanks again!

Torley,

This issue was solved for me since installation of 1.19.0.0 RC client and was still present with previous 1.18.3 client. So DSL connection is not involved in this issue.
It was still ok with 1.19.0.1 RC client untill today, feb 12nd.
Since this morning, the TP issue is present again.
Notice that I'm experiencing this problem with two different computers.
My DSL connection is a standard wired one without WIFI or satellite.
Please pay attention to this very annoying issue.

Thank you.

HERE IS A WORKAROUND
-------------------------------------
After installation of 1.19.0.RC2 client, everything was ok again but for two days only.
I have uninstalled the client using the automatic uninstallation provided in SL program goup, manualy deleted SecondLife folder located at "Documents and Settings/[User Name]/Application Data/ " (replace [User Name] with your Windows account name) and finally installed again the RC2 client.
Everything was ok again.
I do it each time TP issue is rised again, just wasting 5 minutes.
Notice that this workaround does not work with 1.18.3.x clients.
Hope this help.

Exact same problem here, and as others I've been stuck with 1.18.3.5, as it is the last working build.

Standard viewer , Nicholaz Edition for Mac, WindLight, RC's, whatever, I have made not a single successful crossing of a border or successful TP since 1.18.3.5.

The only improvement is that it is now a soft crash that tells me I was disconnected from the region I was in. The down side to that is no crash reports are generated.

This bug seems related to https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-972. Note that some people there also report issues with border crossing, not just teleports.

BTW, my connection is wired DSL at 5154 kb/s down, 650 kb/s up, with a ping time of 23 ms.

Alger Meads added a comment - 28/Mar/08 02:03 PM
Since i can only select a single version, i've updated this issue to version 1.19.0 from 1.18.6.

Obviously the problem still persists, which is a total bummer because the small glimpses i get of SL with all the new and updated features (since 1.18.3.5) are almost enough to make me forget about my teleporting problems and just log out/in to travel anywhere (which totally sucks when your friends can travel willy nilly AND enjoy the new features)

Anyway, i wanna keep this issue on the Linden radar.

Kyber Fall added a comment - 18/Aug/08 03:50 PM
This issue hit me about two weeks ago. I cannot change a region without SL hanging and then being logged off. This is true for viewers 1.19.1.4 through to SecondLife_1_20_14_92115_RELEASECANDIDATE. Both Mac and PC versions are encountering the same problem. What is going on with the servers? Why can this very critical, crucial issue not be fixed?

Alger Meads added a comment - 29/Aug/08 09:24 PM
Same issue as SVC-972. With the 1.21 RC viewer, the problem has been resolved as far as i have experienced.

Thanks again for taking care of this.
