2. Second Life Service - SVC

"Show in search" doesn't persist in server 1.19 (but works on Havok-4 regions)

Component/s: Search
Affects Version/s: 1.19.0 Server

Linden Lab Issue ID: DEV-9936
Linden Lab Internal Branch: Branch_1-19-0-Server

 Description  « Hide
Original summary: Checking item to "show in search" toggles back off when you close edit window - BUT: Works on islands running latest havok engine

Clicking "show in search" does not "stick" - trying same thing on island running the new beta havok engine has it work. Copying properly configured and "checked" on current graphic engine does not work, nor does trying different permissions, for sale or not etc.

ONLY works when moving to a havok 4 (newest anyway) engine island.

Another little note about this bug:

Flipping the "when Left-clicked" to any other setting after clicking "show in search" drop down at the bottom of the edit window ALSO toggles "show in search" OFF even while keeping the edit window open.

This should be an SVC bug, also probably at least Critical, if not Showstopper.

I'm experiencing the same thing presently (mainland Han Loso region).

The show is search checkmark is not retained when I close the edit window. Also, I've noticed that the checkmark will remove itself when I set the 'When Left-Clicked' to: Buy.

Prims which had previously had show in search checked, retain their checkmark, and are restoring the checkmark (removed by the user) after closing the edit window.

I noticed this today, too.

I attempt to check "Show in Search" on vendo-type objects rezed on Rosewood Sunrise Shores sim. I see the check/uncheck toggling properly in the editor. Then I edit another item and come back to the first to find it's still unchecked or checked; whatever it was before I attempted to change it.

I see this behavior in both the standard Windows client and the WindLight first look client.

This was working before, of course. It seems a small change in the sim or asset server systems caused this.

Most likely it was caused by the 1.19 server upgrade, Havok 4 sims are still on 1.18.6, so probably the reason it still works there.

It might be noted that once clicked to show in search, you also cannot "unclick to not show in search"... basically the reverse issue. The "show in search" button is broken both ways.

Same for me and my company partner, we rezzed our "for sale" articles, clicked show in search in EVERY item and than an hour later we discovered that none "show in search" was turned on and every item was still invisible to search, its very uncomfortable because we have a lot items we must show in search and we have our grand opening this week and listed are only about 10 items and my bestsellers like miracle chairs and flatscreens are no longer listed in search because i also moved my store.

Twilight Linden let me know she saw some support tickets about this. Thanks for your reports, we'll investigate further.

PLEASE BE SURE to mention the region/server version where this happens to you (go to Help menu > About Second Life to get that info) and any other info needed to reliably make this bug happen – that will be useful for tracking it down.

Isn't Havok4 just about physics? How come it's interacting with the Search box? Are you sure it's not to do with the supposedly fixed bug of switching it off on a prim when a sale was made?

Harleen Gretzky added a comment - 04/Feb/08 07:08 PM
Havok4 sims are still on 1.18.6.x server.

TORLEY

shall I explain what happened?

While fixing the SVC-930 your techies have reverted the code to a version before "Show In Search" was implemented, that's why it works on Havok4 since they are not running on the questionable version of 1.9.

Since you Torley are my personal search engine hero (i mean it no sarcasm intended) I am hoping this is gonna be fixed sooner than 3 months coz what is it worth when objects are correctly priced when nobody can find them?

WORKAROUND PROCEDURE:
To work around this bug simply use a box from your store that is already checked to show in search and make this your template.
The bug goes in both ways, once it is shown in search you can't disable it anymore, the check box is totally nonfunctional!

EDIT: PS this is a SHOWSTOPPER, bump it up!

Happening here since the obviously untested 1.19 borked server release:

Second Life 1.19.0 (0) Jan 30 2008 16:41:52 (Second Life Release Candidate)

You are at 254805.3, 291199.0, 22.3 in CF Plaza located at sim5600.agni.lindenlab.com (8.2.34.156:13005)
Second Life Server 1.19.0.79136

This type of defect is a serious Secondlife Economy damaging error.
Recommend LL actually force it's employees to test this product before release of any version of any code tree and make sure all functionality related to the economy works perfectly.
And while you are at it maybe pay more attention to those version control factors since this is an old bug come back to roost.
But then... heh.. your programmers get paid for whatever they do or don't bother doing. problems with Secondlife don't affect their paychecks.

We have a fix pending on this, Samuel Linden investigated the code – for the curious, I'm asking if there's any details which would be useful for you to know.

Lavanya Hartnell added a comment - 05/Feb/08 05:30 AM
No need to be rude. If you know anything about developing complex software systems (yes, this very much qualifies), you'll know it's not practical to test every single feature of it with every release.

I'm just a little surprised they didn't merge the Havok features into the trunk or the other new production features into the Havok branch. Pain to do, but it would have been nice.

Lavanya Hartnell added a comment - 05/Feb/08 05:32 AM
Torley: Thanks for the regular updates. It's comforting to know it's on the radar. And JIRA rocks.

Does anyone know if there are still regions that have the non-Havok build? I'd like to take my handful of posters to one to set their Show in Search flags and then take them back to my store. Is this even practical?

Torley Linden added a comment - 12/Feb/08 08:50 AM
This was fixed after a rolling restart last week – you're welcome, Lavanya, and hope things are well now.
