Proposal: count traffic stats only for paying members.

Ranking searches by traffic causes bot camping on a large scale, to boost a business's traffic thus ranking them higher in searches. Large scale camping causes a drain on resources that is felt by actual participants of SL.

The purpose of traffic statistics is to estimate the popularity of a location. However, camping thwarts this purpose.

If we count traffic stats only for paying SL members, we dramatically increase the cost for bot camp farms, making most of them not cost justified. And for those that are cost-justified, at least the farms are generating revenue for LL, which is of value to all SL residents – bots would be helping to pay for the resources they are using.

The most problematic camping would disappear. Those smaller camp farms that are trying to actually draw players to interesting places to participate could continue to operate.

And the traffic statistic would be far more representative of popularity, though unfortunately representing only a subset of SL players.

You should not create a sub-task to a meta-issue, especially not when the issue has already been raised elsewhere. The duplicated issue deals with the arguments on both sides and other matters are dealt with in other issues in the Meta-Issue (e.g., you can rise your traffic by renting properties in the same parcel, quite literally "dwell").

Thanks Mercia – I thought I was creating a "related issue" to the meta issue. First, how do I do that?

Second, why isn't the duplicate (SVC-792) a "related issue" to the meta issue here? I wouldn't have duplicated it if it had been listed as a related issue.

I'll be happy to close this issue or delete it or whatever is the best thing to do to junk it.
