 Description  « Hide
1. Get a group.
2. Rez something on your (preferrably empty!) land that is no-copy
3. Set to and deed this item to your group.
4. Click (return) under the objects tab in your land tools
5. The object is DELETED OUTRIGHT instead of falling back to your inventory.

Wait, so no-copy objects deeded to group are tossed instead of just getting sent back to their original owner?

There is a workaround if you want to take the item back manually (set it for sale 0$, and buy it yourself).

This causes nothing but trouble, especially for those of us who have to deed items to group to make them work right! (Security systems, some large games that use access lists, radios/tv's that utilize the parcel media URLs..).

What happens if, for example, the sim owner where we have our group land has trouble and the sim goes away? Everyone's items should get returned..
Those unlucky enough to have items set to group instead have them silently deleted while everything else returns.

How do you recommend group-deeded objects should be treated upon parcel object return instead?

Preferrably reverting back to the person who rezzed/deeded the object in the first place. This might not be possible though, as the object now belongs to the group (i.e. the original owner information gets tossed out). Would require extra database resources to add information on who rezzed or deeded an item.

Maybe a type of "group inventory" system where group members can put items to be used by everyone who is a member of the group. Items could return there. But, extra DB resources and work :/ I can see this being a boon to griefer groups as well. Then theres the entire permissions issue..

Disallowing the return of group deeded objects? I can see that generating a lot of support requests to go manually returning things.

Probably the easiest thing to do would be option #1, track who deeds an object (in the background?) and return the items to them.

ANYTHING is better than silently deleting objects :/

This does not happen for me, the objects are returned to my Lost and Found folder. The only thing deleted is any part that is no-transfer, I assume since it cannot transfer ownership back to the previous owner. For example the object I was testing with was no-mod, no-copy, but a sound in its inventory was no-transfer. After it was returned to me the sound had been deleted. And it warns you that this happens when you return the object (unless you have that warning turned off).

I have had returned objects that were not deeded to the group just vanish into thin air, some came back after a day or so, to lost and found, others didn't ever come back. This was on my own land, and I did a return all.

Would it be possible to return group deeded inventory to the group founder and if that account is no longer existing to the first named group owner? Obviously if someone leave SL and the group was just a collection of their alts and they are all canceled, then there is really nothing that can be done. At a more fundamental level, why are these security systems and media systems requiring deed to group? What is deed to group giving them at a technical level that set to group is not?

Yes, and if you only set the objects to group instead of deeding them (the group being the landowner), they can be returned if some bozo rezzes something more than the prim limit.

In reference to Harleen's comment, since no-transfer items can't be deeded to group anymore, is this still a problem for anyone?

I happend to me with a YouTube player, and SL Internet Radio, and a "remote" for a big screen...6 hours later, they are still gone.
