Traffic stats, while well intentioned, have been gamed for a very long time now, and it is with disappointment that I observe that the parcel-owners who abuse traffic with vast bot-farms are now gaming the new search feature as well.
This is a meta-issue proposing that traffic be permanently removed and be replaced with something that more accurately, and usefully displays results based on relevant keywords, descriptive text or some other useful statistic. Even if it is simply removing traffic from the new Google based search.
Please vote for this meta-issue if you are also interested in removing the currently gamed traffic statistic, and also please read the linked proposals for possible replacements to traffic.

[ I agree, the whole paradigmn for relevancy in search and using traffic is useless as it is. This is a good first step. Ultimately the whole way people use the search to get residents to their locations needs to be changed. How many time hav you searched and then looked at 5 lines of keywords in the description of someplace that have nothing to do with what they have there. Between the ugly ad farms and fraud in the classifieds and search descriptions, Advertising in SL is completely out of control. Most RL communites have zoning to control it, we need something like that here as well.
I would like to add some thoughts and will do more with a new JIRA issue shortly. Basically though, this is my idea
1 Remove any sort of traffic counting from search relevancy.
2 End camping. If people want to give out lindens to noobs, let them
just stand there and actually hand them out
3 Make search work only on relevancy of words used in the search criteria, no more popularity contests.
4 Make the use of fraudulant or missleading keywords or search descriptions a TOS violation. Abuse to
result in removal from search and classifies to eventual loss of parcel
Folks, fraud using bots and campers, fraud in keywords, the horrible blight of ad farms in othewise nice regions is not going to go away unless something is done. The greedy will never volunteeraly reduce their activities.

OMG - you twist words and take them out of context to support your weird adgenda - whatever it is. I don't hate noobs, I welcome them, and I don't know anyone else who hates them either. Your attacks are completely out of place.
As to wanting stuff for free, I think its all fine. If someone wants to go hand out their lindens to noobs, go for it. But do it in a way that it does not impact MY RIGHTS to enjoy SL. If Camping and bots negatively affect the sim I have land on, that is simply unacceptable.
"Why *can't* they get money for free as any immigrant would expect to get a hand-out or a loan?! " And that dear friends, is why countries have borders. You want an opportunity, I am all for giving it to you. You want a hand out, call your mommie, maybe she will give you some lindens. Gimme gimme gimme... sorry, you want something, work for it.
As to carbon footprint, I only mentioned the energy costs because it seems to me it would make more sense to NOT camp, and take the money saved on energy and buy Lindens.
I am done here. It seems once certain posters join a thread, it degrades to the point of being useless.

First, I am no longer a mentor, and I speak only for me.
Second, I was not laimenting that people want to earn money, that is fine and healthy. What I was laimenting was that the perception of SL to many is a place where you can login as a noob and get rich with out learning anything or creating anything, that money is free if you know the right spot. Everyone can get rich without contributing at all. If they want to earn money, make a business, sell something of value, create opportunity, etc. that is terrific and I encourage it in-world and often help people get started on learning about SL when I can.
I was simply pointing out that "how do I get money" and of course "how do you have sex" were probably two of the most common questions I received, and that tells me there is a perception out there of what SL is that is false.
All I was saying, is that you don't need money to have a great SL experience, and that if you want money, either learn to do something that will earn if for you, or buy some lindens. Why should you get free money???
I stand on my opinion that camping contributes nothing to SL overall, it perpetuates a bad perception of what SL is really about, and has a substanial negative impact to anyone on the same sim as someone with camping spots. The current traffic situation encourages both camping and the abuse of it, causes false results when you search, and either needs to be changed or removed.

This is the most ridiculus argument I have ever heard!!! With all the free stuff, from houses to clothing, that is available, you can go forever in SL and never spend a Linden. I was a mentor, and you can not believe how often the first question a naked asked noob asked was - How do I make money in here. Seems to me the perception of what SL is needs to change a bit.
If noobs want Lindens, let them do a PIOF and buy some. Most camping returns less lindens than the cost of energy to run the computer in equivalent dollars. It is a waste of energy, a waste of bandwidth, a blight on any region it is used on, and contributes nothing overal to SL.
Eliminating traffic stats as a search criteria will eliminate camping??? Great, all the more reason to vote yes on this proposal!!!
