the weapons testing sandbox isn't exactly for biulding, it's for testing / working on weapons, there are other sims that can provide better work enviorments with no griefers, so you can biuld large objects that take a long time to link without worrying about loosing work. Here is a nice sim that is also stable.
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Duvillier/216/54/22 Also keep an eye on how there are a blooming number of Resident-run sandboxes with their own rules, autoreturn policies, and ways of doing things – that variety of choice is something LL doesn't have the resources to oversee on our own, especially when our Liaisons are so busy doing numerous other tasks, so thank goodness for Resident-run resources.
On that note, I just became an admin of Ferox sandbox.
It takes up about 70% of ferox sim. Unfortunately, we have a nudist beach nearby, so a lot of naked noobs come through. Maybe I shall do something about that. I gave you lindens the solution a while back. But i was ignored. You need to get your stuff in order or it might turn up a revolution.
I have A.D.D and Dislexia so i hate typing. So in short GOOD IDEA !
I agree with this enhancement request.. The public sandboxes are really not the place to leave builds for hours.... and Griefers exploit the current long return policy to leave behind all kinds of objects that serve to harass , and otherwise poison the public sandboxes. Return on Agent departing should be implemented...
Thanks... I would like to add that the above enhancement should NOT replace the existing global timeout for object removal... per WarKirby Magojiro's observation about AFK
issues... I posted an idea which could allow the flexibility you want in a sandbox that you can tailor as you like:
https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-174 Basically avatars added to the allowed list would not have their items auto-returned. So you could have a script add them when they arrive then remove them when they leave. Would allow you to restrict by other things too. Hi all!
Id like to start off my coment with an interesting but blaintent statement; As you all know, the VAST majority of sandboxes that are flooded, trashed, and greifed are linden owned sandboxes, examples being Sandbox Island, Sandbox Island Components, Weapons Testing Sandbox, Combat Rasche, ect... This statistic flexis the point that lindens do not have the time to patrol these sandboxes. Torley said for us to keep an eye out on resident owned sandboxes; this was a good idea. But if linden labs doesnt have the resources for these NEEDED sandbox maintenance, and your backbone is the resident owned sandboxes, where is the revenue that the resident's land cost going to?! The cycle is clear, residents take the sandbox traffic, you get money from the residents land, and then you take that money and use it as 'resources' to fund manditory sandbox support. However this topic wasnt made for resident owned sandboxes, this is stating the critical condition these sandboxes are in. And these residents dont want to go to resident owned sandboxes, they want to stay in the sandboxes that USED to be functioning, clean, sandboxes. You cannot walk a mere 10 meters in the Testing Sandbox within 5 minuts sometimes. The sound lag gets so bad in some of these places that you have to turn off your speakers every time you enter the sim (If you can even get there, and the Weapons Testing sim is down on average of 3 times a day). Another alternitive lindens might offer is 'buy your own land for a sandbox'. Well I dont know about you all, but I sure dont have 1.3k to fork out, then 300 USD monthly on something as basic as a sandbox. If any of you are willing to pay that, please do contribute to the linden lab resources. And now to the focal point: Auto Return Policy. Prop: 3319 409 votes/63 voters/9 applied
Name: Autoreturn objects to owner Category: miscellaneous Subcategory: other Author: JAFO Ochs Prop Date: 2007-05-29 Feature Detail: I spend the majority of my time in Public Sandboxes..they are piled high with the trash left by people who were never taught by their parents to pick up after themselves..since they seem incapable of learning this skill on their own..someone has to be their mommy and do it for them.. This proposal is essential for controlling sandbox griefers. It would disable serial griefers, who go from sandbox to sandbox leaving behind replicating and other griefing objects; when the griefer moves on, his objects go with him. If the griefer alt stays, it can be AR'd and eliminated. The sooner this idea is put in place, the sooner the Linden sandboxes can be returned to their intended purpose: A resource for builders, not playgrounds for griefers. It would be helpful also as an option for managers of private sandboxes - obviously.
DO IT TODAY. Yesterday would be even better. All for it. Yes. About time.
Best suggestion yet. I believe the suggestion would be a good one if it weren't for some unaddressed factors:
-> 1. If your builds were returned, whether linked or otherwise, the builds would be per force given the name of the last object identified in the grouped return. Inventories would fill with clustered objects identified merely as "object" in most cases. -> 2. Very frequently a user is logged off involuntarily, due either to a griefer attack, sudden cessation of server traffic for whatever reason, or the infamous client viewer memory leaks using up all available memory and crashing. Recently the public sandboxes were reset from an autoreturn time of 24 hours to a mere five hours. This helped a lot, but now as traffic increases and the griefer attacks rise, this is no longer sufficient. An incremental interrim fix of simply reducing the autoreturn time to three hours would probably at least cut the junk level down. Litter is nearly as bad a problem as the griefing problem itself. Discussions regarding citizen volunteer groups should probably not appear here - the JIRA is for software issues, not social ones. |

A better design, imho. Would be a timer, commencing when someone leaves a sandbox. And autoreturning their stuff when that runs out. 20-309 minutes would be reasonable for this.
Farthermore, this could not feasibly replace the current system. There would still have to be a global timed return in place, else you would get assholes filling the area with penises, then going afk and leaving their avs in the area, thusly ensuring that things don't ever get returned unless they crash.
I simply don;t think there is any wide, sweeping measure like this that can solve the problems. The sandboxes need human regulation, and i don't think anything can replace that..
