I've been having a problem lately with disgruntled group members IM'ing my group of 800 people when they are ejected from the group for harassment or causing problems. It kills me knowing all those people are being bothered with some cussing crazy person, and there is no way to stop them. As a business owner, I think we owe it to our group members to be able to protect them from this type of communication, and with hundreds of group members, there are always going to be a few bad people. So do we continue to let everyone be bothered, or suppress group sizes trying to keep the occasional trouble maker out? I think there should be an option within group settings to allow/disallow group IM'ing, just as there is an option to allow/disallow members sending group notices, if only so it could be turned off when a trouble maker is ejected, with immediate action. As it is now, members that can send group notices can continue to do so even after being ejected, until they relog. That needs to be instant revocation of privileges.

I have marked this as a duplicate of MISC-731 on the basis of the title of this issue, but the Description raises a different issue, that of preventing an ejected member from using Group IM. As a result I left it open. I suggest that the title is changed to something more reflective of the Description.

There is already an issue for that too, Mercia. But this raises a third issue. That of people being able to use group notices after ejection.

Alright. The first two issues mentioned here are duplicates. I linked the user remains in chat session issue. The third, I am unable to reproduce.

When you get ejected from a group, if you have the group info screen open, it actually snaps shut in your face. The group is instantly removed from your groups list, and it doesn't seem possible to send a notice.

I'm suspecting Sigma didn't really mean notices at all, and simply used incorrect terminology in reference to group IM.

But as it stands

Restricting group chat: duplicate
Ejected person remains in chat session: duplicate
Member still able to send group notices: cannot reproduce.

I'm resolving this as can't repro for now, in case I'm wrong about the terminology. I hope you'll agree there's nothing arbitrary about it.

------

Long story short, LL is aware and working on it.

Sorry I did not see the previous issue relating to this, I did search, apparently I did not search back far enough. As to this:
"I'm suspecting Sigma didn't really mean notices at all, and simply used incorrect terminology in reference to group IM. "

No, that is exactly what I meant. I was discussing IM's, but brought up group notices also because we HAVE had a fired employee send a group notice after being ejected from the group. I do not know how, I did not ask. But it was several hours after his ejection and he sent a group notice to our employee group which he was removed from first, not our customer group, and begged our other employees to quit in protest of him being fired, and begged those not willing to quit to harass us over the matter. This happened in August, it's not still saved in our group notice history, but if someone at SL has the ability to dig deeper than the archive allows us to see, they will see it.

But thank you for pointing out the previous issue on this subject, I voted for it.
