Linked to Misc-208, which is not a duplicate this issue is about improving premium accounts with groups as one option
Currently, Premium accounts are not very attractive, ideas like this are very welcome. Voted for it.
Raised to Normal this is more than a cosmetic issue.

I like this as a way to allow residents a path to gain more groups while still perhaps avoiding the performance pitfalls involved. I gather that there's a pretty severe performance penalty on the sims involved in adding extra groups, because the sim constantly has to check every edit operation someone does against every one of their groups to be sure they're allowed to edit a given object. I think I remember hearing LL say that that kind of thing is why they cap the number of groups.
This proposal (or perhaps actually charging separately for a higher group alotment) might allow LL to avoid a widespread performance hit for increasing the number of groups. Those of us that really need more groups will probably be willing to pay for them. Lex Neva said: "I gather that there's a pretty severe performance penalty on the sims involved in adding extra groups, because the sim constantly has to check every edit operation someone does against every one of their groups to be sure they're allowed to edit a given object."
If that's the case, then perhaps the answer is a rather different type of "lite group" that has no land or edit privileges at all - essentially, a mailing or subscription list. The vast majority of my groups have nothing to do with group-owned land or group-permission prims – just announcements from vendors and musical performers. I think that's an awesome idea Coyote: Having 2 types of Groups: the traditional Group with land/object functions, and a lighter Subscription List group. it would certainly help cut down the number of groups I have. You should make a JIRA issue on that: I'd vote for it.
However a significant number of my own groups are for object placement on group owned parcels. So while it would cut down some, it wouldn't help with all of them. I was kind of hoping that as Lex said, that the fact it was only for Premium account members would mean that it would not be all account wide performance impact, and also that it would pay for itself. Problems like perfomance lag are only solved by waving money at the problem, thus paying for groups would be enough incentive for Linden to do it (and maybe use the income to upgrade servers etc to cope). Since Premium account status is pretty uninviting for most, a benefit like this, I feel, would encourage a lot more people to subscribe to premium account status, and in the end it would pay it's own way. Premium certainly has to be very attractive now for Europeans to bother as we have to pay even more for it with VAT on top. As I said before, make it attractive with something useful and needed, like more groups and then it's a benefit to us, and a benefit to linden labs too.

With the increase of private islands, where we can buy land without the need to be Premium, I can't see any Premium Account benefits. One solution would be to increase the number of groups of Premium members from 25 to 50 or perhaps 100...
I raised the Priority to Major.

Lex, why do you say that Sims have to constantly check every edit operation someone does against every one of their groups to be sure they're allowed to edit a given object.
Shouldn't the sim only check every edit operation against the parcel's group (1) or an edited object's group (1)? When I first came into SL, I did so with a Premium account (quarterly). It took almost no time to realize that this had no value to me, as I ended up buying "land" on an island SIM, and I find "support" to be virtually nonexistent. As a result, I recently canceled my Premium account. I would return to that status if I could add more groups. I am also in favor of the creation of a different classification of "communication only" groups, that would have nothing to do with land ownership, permissions, etc. An excellent suggestion.
Duplicate of MISC-208 More than 25 groups!

I am a premium member and don't see what it buys me except support. The times I've needed support, there hasn't been ample response. To have the ability to have more than 25 groups would give me a good enough reason to continue my premium membership. I would very much like to see this added as a feature. For networking and "career" building purposes, I am constantly juggling my groups. There are countless opportunities missed when I have to do this. Please assist us by raising the limit. Thank you.
oh PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we have more groups???? I've a premium account, I manage a couple businesses in SL, I help others with theirs and I'm in various groups for marketing purposes and Im plum out of room for other groups I need for more marketing and sales. Please dont make a woman gravel, isn't it bad enough i've just begged?
Please take this as my vote for ... YES PLEASE, MORE THAN 25 GROUPS ... at the very least for us premium membership account holders, that would be so excellent and helpful!!! Thanks. i really would think is was fair to the premium account holder''s to have a little more benifits as to have more than 25 groups, that is what were paying for to have better benfits than non-paying customer's, i know on other 3D sites u get a little more for being a VIP and i think SL should add unlimted or at least up to 150 for premium customer's. what is the benifit of us paying when we get the same thing as a non-paying customer do?

I have a premuim acct , $22.50 it let me pay , and it woll not let me add lindens ( allocation limit 25/day and its been 2 days ) i wander around looking at stuff i cant get or do or create. I cant function without currency.
arriving here, becoming a premuim member , thus far is a tease, frustrating and causing me to lose the motivation i arrived with. This place functions on self motivation and the newbie experience is less than gratifying after exploration time exposes everything you cant do yet.
I have a FIOS connection (30mbit ) and 3 HD screens 2 1680 pix and one full 1920x1080 wall sized screen, a dual core 4ghz 64bit and 2 tb of disc.
