At first login in the course of creating an alt, on Orientation Island 60, I accidentally detached the Orientation Island HUD due to high lag conditions (viewer 1.2 fps decreasing to 0.5 fps). After attempts to reattach (Wear) from inventory failed repeatedly (possibly through high lag), I tried to relog.
OIHUD did not attach automatically at relog, even though I had not finished the 4 mandatory stations. At about 4.5 fps, I tried to Wear the HUD from inventory, without success. I then tried to attach the HUD manually using the Attach to HUD > Center option in the inventory menu (center to ensure that HUD would be visible). Certain visual elements of the HUD then appeared onscreen in a fragmented pattern, with various elements scattered all over the height and across about 1/3 of the width of the screen, in such a fashion that the HUD was unusable. Clicking on some parts of the fragmented HUD produced changes in the pattern, but none that were useful. Detaching and reattaching the HUD did not resolve the problem, the HUD remained permanently scrambled.
As far as I can tell, the visual disintegration of the HUD was caused by using the Attach to HUD option, which is unlikely to occur to someone entirely new to SL. As it does not seem to occur with Wear, I have not flagged it as a showstopper. HOWEVER, the initial cause of the problem was the refusal of the OIHUD to reattach in the normal fashion using Wear, which may have been related to the gridwide high lag conditions prevailing at the time. As I was using a new alt, I was not in a position to verify this by trying to Wear other attachments. Repros would be greatly appreciated. See also MISC-213.

When I checked for the move problem i the Orientation area, I met one new user who had lost his HUD. I steered him to "wear" it and ihe said it didn't work. I didn't try it myself though (wanted to complete the tasks for the test).

A mentor gave me a new Orientation HUD, and that fixed the problem.
