 Description  « Hide
I encountered this with a friend who had a "Thriller" attachment, that would make you dance to Michael Jackson's hit of the same name while playing the song. It was chat activated and chat de-activated.

However, after she detached it at some point, somehow it remained. However, it no longer listed as an attachment in either her inventory or her Edit > Detach Object menu, which made it impossible to detach in that way.

The strangest thing was this: the prim was not attached to her body. It appeared at the moment she tp'd or entered a sim, but would then stay where it was, no matter where she went, until she left the sim.

The snag, of course, was the attachment prim was both transparent and extremely small in diameter, so it could only be detected with extreme difficulty. I finally managed to pinpoint it due to the particle effects that scripts give off when they chat and after I showed her where it was, she could detach it by right-clicking the prim.

Unfortunately I could not reproduce this with the attachment (I received a copy), nor had I, or anyone I knew of, heard of it. I also could not find that issue here, so I fill in this report, so that other people might respond to it and give you a more solid testing base.

This is what happens when people modify their avatar_lad.xml or whatever in order to give themselves more attachment points.

Side effects of someone having given an object an unsupported attachment point

That may provide similar issues, but this avatar was less than 3 months old and decidedly not the type to tinker with XML files... or even know of their existence. Thank you for your suggestion however.

To verify this, have your friend attach it again (default attach, without specifying where to attach it) and see if it exhibits the same behavior. If it does, given a copy of the item, I could even verify which unsupported point it attaches to. If your friend created the attachment (in other words, did not get it from someone else) then I could be wrong. But let me explain more clearly. At some point someone attached the object to an unsupported attachment point. Most likely it was someone who had been fooling with avatar_lad.xml, but it's also possible that it was intentionally given that attachment point to play a prank on your friend or others. Anyway, once a person attaches something to a specified attachment point, the object is set up to attach to that point by default. So giving that object to others (your friend) has this result.

Ok, now I understand what you're saying.

Sadly, It is no longer verifyable, since she and I deleted the item, but I do think that waht you describe above is the most likely cause. Thank you for your explanation.
