Please only link issues to this Jira if they have been confirmed by a Linden to indeed be a simple addition. Generally, this involves speaking with a developer Linden. More information about speaking with Lindens and which Lindens do server and client development is available on the Office Hours page. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Office_hours Also, this issue is marked "critical" due to the key phrase "large returns." Issues without large returns should not be linked.

There are certain small and easy features that could be added to SL that would have wide-reaching positive effects. However, every Linden is assigned to some large and critical task, so these small yet useful improvements are left undone.

As an example, during office hours Andrew Linden, Simon Linden, Qarl Linden, Babbage Linden, Q Linden, Nyx Linden, and Bigpapi Linden have agreed as to the wide-spread usefulness of SVC-2885 which would negate the need for a script in every prim in order to resize an entire object. However, since none of the devs are "assigned" to the task, they were unable to help with what they agreed was a simple thing with enormous benefits. Said benefits can be read on that Jira's page.

Andrew Linden suggested putting a Linden on this task for about a month to clear out the pending list. I say having a single Linden set to fill up the cracks for a week or two between their larger projects would then keep the linked issues marked complete.

I heartily agree with this. I'm linking it with SVC-2885 and SVC-2105 (llSetLinkListPrimitiveParams, which Qarl has also said would be pretty easy).

if actually implemented this could do a lot for user experience
and if not a team full time, at least dedicate a few hours a week to this task. much like googles giving devs a bit of time to work on projects that suit their fancy

+1

SVC-2643 - llGetParentKey isn't an "easy" feature to implement. It requires changes in how the simulator stores objects in the sim-state, how objects are rezzed and how they move from one region to another and the changes have to be made in such a way that legacy objects aren't corrupted. It's a QA nightmare.

Thank you, Strife. I must have been remembering something wrong about that one.

This is a great idea. I've added three pet features of my own, which I think are fairly easy to implement. I have many other feature requests, but I recognise that some of them are not trivial

adding this sensor flag request

Would be nice to see the patches from http://sldev.free.fr listed here too, since Nicholaz, Henri, and others have been linking those into the Linden viewer code * for years* and it should be pretty obvious by now, with the MANY people running those patched viewers, that the patches work.

The code is already written, sitting there, and even tested.

If Henri can apply that whole stack of patches in a day or two from a new Linden release... why aren't they in the main stream.
Most of the list on his site looks like easy "featurettes" too.

Allen, if those patches aren't already on Jira, then why not create new issues, get the patches attached however is appropriate for the licensing, and then link them to this issue?

Adding SVC-4562 – Confirmed by Andrew Linden that it wouldn't be too hard, and he'd add it to his list of "easy LSL changes" to make someday. He did say that the collision handling code needed to be cleaned up in general, however.

On 8/11/2009 [11:40] Andrew Linden: Tell you what... link anything you're wondering about and send me an IM or email to audit the list of linked items this week.

As a result of this, I am linking up several issues which have been brought up. However, please don't use this as a free-for-all chance unless you're absolutely certain it would be appropriate. Andrew has limited time so we need to make sure that he can focus on those things which would have the most benefit, not just wishlist things Having some benefit is not the same as having the most benefit – please keep that in mind

Stickman Ingmann asked me to look over the proposed features linked here and to identify any that are not easy. After a quick perusal I would judge the following two ideas difficult:

SVC-1406 Non-volatile storage for meta-information

SVC-4715 JIRA for llRenderText - Rendering Text on a Prim

Not that those will never be done, but they aren't easy, so I recommend they be unlinked from this one.

I'm going to try to get some subset of these done in time for server-1.36, which will probably be deployed in January 2010.

Thanks for the fantastic news, Andrew! I'm glad to hear it, and I'm sure everyone else is, also!

Linking to SVC-3306: Add enumeration to llPassCollisions() to provide ALWAYS_PASS, PASS_IF_NOT_HANDLED, and NEVER_PASS as explicit options
