Feature Request:
How about watermarking the images in the view window of the texture picker and sculpt map windows whenever a person who has modify permissions doesn't own that texture. I believe this would cut down on an enormous number of thefts, because potential pirates would not be able to copy via screen shot or snapshot and reproduce what someone worked very hard on creating.

Interesting idea. I like the idea of not watermarking if someone has the texture... but I'd suggest that they have to have a full-perms version of the texture to avoid a watermark.

Howabout "No Mod" stamped diagonally across it, in a rainbow coloured font?

I've been waiting for this a long time!

Alot of people who cant GLintercept, but still want to steal, use this method. There is a number of skins that already have been print screened to make (blurry) copies. Also, there is no reason this preview should not be watermarked. To be honest, i dont get why it is not marked in the first place. The only thing one could use these image previews for, is to steal (fill me in if i'm wrong)

a vote from me!

I agree with hulk, I don't see any other use for the preview screen than to steal from it.

This would be pointless unless it's done server side each time a texture is pulled off the server since otherwise any non LL client can just ignore this... even then I'm not sure if it will make much of a difference.

Gorden wendt...like I said: there is no way why this should NOT be done. there is no reason why this should be visible to people that do not have the textures. you lock your car too, while anyone that really wants it can steal it . But why make it so simple?

Gigs Taggart added a comment - 29/Mar/08 06:29 AM
The reason it shouldn't be done is the same reason why the client shouldn't hide textures.... it's extremely easy for anyone to just turn this "feature" off.

It doesn't accomplish anything. It's not a lock, it's more like sealing your door with duct tape. Anyone can get around it in seconds.

Because this was posted before the Viewer went open source, and it might have been a viable feature back then, it isn't now, because viewers have the ability to overtake any feature incorporated to do this. Because of that, I am closing this issue because with an open source viewer, there doesn't seem to be any way to make this happen now.

This feature suggestion is no longer viable with an open source viewer now freely available and able to be configured to get around any possible solution.

The easy availability of lockpicks has not dissuaded me from locking my doors at night, so if it's all the same to you guys I will just go ahead and reopen this ticket!
