 Description  « Hide
Linden Labs is currently changing Second Life so that people who do not wish to see "adult" content can filter it out. These people have elevated their desire not to be offended above the freedoms and even property rights of other residents. They are "offensensitive". Clearly, Linden Labs believe that the right not to be offended is very powerful.

I would like to declare that I am deeply offended by such people.

I would therefore like the ability to filter out any person who has asked not to see adult content.

(I would also like to be able to control whether they can see or hear me as well, but separately.)

When you say "filter out" do you mean from Search? Do you mean that you don't want to be able to see their avatar in-world? You need to be more exact as to what you mean, I think. Otherwise this may just get deleted.

It would need to include search and IMs as well as open chat. Its too easy to say 'the wrong thing' given the proposed standards. As it stands we're all going to have to choose between sounding like Ned Flanders, living like dissidents, or moving to Ursula.

Edit: and as it stands now moving would not help with IMs.

From my point of view I read the suggestion with sympathy seeing it like this: To accidentally engage those users either in local chat or instant messages could be considered something that would increase your own risk of being forced into threatening situations, from intolerance-type behavior (can't think of a better word), to ill-conceived governance actions. The safest way I can think of to avoid the risk of even a greeting in local chat would be to make the visual presence of those users altogether unknown using such an option. But I doubt I'd say this if the other party could exercise an option, instead, of not seeing me.

I have to admit, this feature as insane as it sounds is a lot less insane than the adult grid changes...

I would like the ability to also filter out people who have filtered out other people as I find them offensive

Perhaps avatars could flag themselves as offensive and then not be able to log in again.
