EDIT: For reporters with this issue please see Beth Jardberg's comment - 27/Oct/09 09:35 PM on VWR-15929.

Try double-clicking the clock in the Windows system tray (in the lower-right corner of the screen), and verify the full date and time.

It's possible that your secure login is failing due to an incorrect date/time on your computer.

Signed in to find that all the groups under my groups tab were missing. They're still visible in my profile, but when I visit a group's profile through there it treats me as if I'm not a member.

Tried relogging a couple times, and clearing cache, but no luck.

Alexiel, please try resetting your Settings to default (Note that this will reset ALL of your settings, so you will receive popups, as if you had just installed Second Life for the first time)
  • close the Second Life Viewer
  • XP: use the Windows Tools Menu to Show Hidden Files and Folders.
  • Vista: use the Windows Folder Options to Show Hidden Files and Folders.
  • XP: go to C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Username>\Application Data\SecondLife
  • Vista: go to C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\user_settings
  • rename the settings.xml file to old_settings.xml
  • XP: go to C:\Documents and Settings[YOUR USERNAME]\Application Data\SecondLife\cache
  • Vista:go to C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife\cache
  • relog into Second Life and let your Inventory fully load

That did not solve the problem. Additionally, region information is not being displayed at the top of the screen, and landmarks say they need a server update.

Issue continues, I follows the instructions given, but no luck. Other features are missing, and occasionally I cannot log in at all.

Alexiel, please see these articles in Knowledge Base How can I improve performance ? and How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? Please also see this article for suggestions for Turning off WindLight rendering.

Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card.

This article will show you how to get detailed information about the performance of your computer and the Second Life world Statistics Bar Guide

If this is still an issue please Submit a Ticket with Support for a response tailored to your individual situation, see JIRA Home page

Hello...

I am having the exactly same problems..can't tp anywhere...land information is missing - Region information is not being displayed at the top of the screen...groups are missing....reinstall SL standard viewer didnt help...

thought this is a fixed bug in the new release (or early one?).........I have tried the work around as state above....nothing changed.......

can someone please help me?.....

many thanks

I am having this same problem!!! Groups shows "NONE" which is wrong, and doesn't fill if I patiently wait for lag to free up servers.
It just started early this AM (Oct 26)

Additionally, I can no longer TP anywhere outside the region in which I initially land at log in... but I can TP within that region. This is no way to run an airline, expecting us to destroy all our tweaks and custom settings only to discover that that doesn't resolve this. WHAT WILL???

still having the same problem...even though it state this problem has been resolved...I have logged a fault ticket Misc _ 3509.....it is not just individual fault now...

FWIW, I'd long ago tweaked my PREF settings to eliminate/improve graphics. Of course, all of those tweaks were just destroyed by reinstalling SL from scratch, thank you so much. Even after thoroughly uninstalling SL (using REVO Uninstaller deep uninstall tools), and reinstalling the latest SL version from a NEW download from your site, the following problems continue, suggesting THESE ARE SL SERVER ISSUES, not probs with my computer which is up-to-date driver-wise, and powerful enough to handle most of sl's intensive graphics demands:

PROBLEM 1 -
Both my primary and my ALT suddenly lost every GROUP. i.e., the Groups list on the Communication Box is EMPTY, the Friends list is okay. Also discovered I am unable to re-ADD a group.

PROBLEM 2 -
Both primary avatar and ALT are unable to TP anywhere without being LOGGED OUT of SL (yet an expected request to submit a crash report never appears) Cannot TP by using landmarks in inventory NOR by clicking on the large MAP NOR by accessing landmarks via the large MAP Legend section. Each time I attempt a TP, I get the scroll bar screen and whoosh/clunk sound, but then there's a DING and the grey pop up box "You have been logged out of SL" appears.

PROBLEM 3 -
Two days ago, at login, I was asked to take Resident Survey on "satisfaction." (hah) The survey box was defective, seemed too small for the contents because it failed to display a submit button and the inbox box ran off the right side of the box as did anything we input instead of wrapping around.

PROBLEM 4 -
I can log in either to my HOME or to another region by entering it in that option space. The large MAP correctly shows surrounding regions but the MINI-MAP only shows the region I'm in. If I walk to the edge of the sim, nothing exists beyond it (very twilight zoney) and I cannot travel past the border. If I FLY, the coordinates in the top bar begin to show negative numbers as soon as I leave the region and no terrain or buildings appear beneath me.

I have searched the knowledge base... NOTHING addresses these problems. I submitted a support ticket and was rejected because I'm a basic member, sent back to the useless knowledgebase. Much like the ghosting bug many people are suffering, THIS IS A BUG or GLITCH IN YOUR SERVER that needs to be corrected ASAP.

In April, Ellen threw the kitchen sink at this issue and apparently declared it resolved... it is NOT resolved. I don't know how it can be replicated, except that my own thorough uninstall/reinstall shows it still exists.

Try double-clicking the clock in the Windows system tray (in the lower-right corner of the screen), and verify the full date and time.

It's possible that your secure login is failing due to an incorrect date/time on your computer.

Run the TraceRoute test, see How do I check for packet loss (network lag)? Please attach the report to this issue.

Objects and the terrain disappear

All of these are signs that you are (at least partially) disconnected from Second Life. While you're logged into Second Life, you're connecting to several different parts of the Second Life servers (for the region you're in, your inventory, your cash balance, etc.) It's possible to get disconnected from some parts of Second Life and not others.

  • If you're using wireless networking, you should try troubleshooting with a direct wired connection; we allow, but do not support the use of wirless network connections.
  • Try opening the Statistics bar and seeing what your Ping Sim and Packet Loss values are. The ping values are the time (in milliseconds) it takes to reach the server from your computer. If this number is high, it could indicate a problem with your network or internet connection. If Packet Loss is a nonzero number, your network or ISP may be having issues.
  • If this happens consistently after a certain period of time (like a few minutes), it's likely there's other software on your computer (firewall or internet security software) that's disconnecting Second Life., Is my firewall responsible for problems with Second Life?

Thank you : )
