What you perceive as movement is just the client acting as if the avatar is still moving, based on its last speed and direction. It does this all the time when you walk around, to simulate a fluit motion, instead of jumping forward on each network packet being sent. Walk forward, then pull your network cable out. You will see the same effect.

In reality the avatar is standing at the sim edge, trying to cross, and the sims are shoveling data back and forth. What your visitors are experiencing are normal sim crossing delays, and if your visitors get huge delays and disconnects repeatedly, it can have various reasons:

1. Your visitors are trying to cross while wearing huge amounts of prims and scripts. Every prim and script increases the time of teleports and sim crossings
2. What is the state of your sims? Are they burdened and time dilated? Low sim performance can drastically increase the chances of sim crossing failures. (see ctrl+shift+1 to watch the stats. 'sim fps' and 'time dilation' are what you want to look at in each sim)
