It makes sense. And would it not be possible to cap load in some way, as well as imposing prim limits?
Anyone consider proper penalties for those estate owners who miss use the open space sims, like taking them back
after one warning. And also have owners digitaly sign a contract on proper open sim use? I have an openspace sim which is my home. basically this is a problem purely of LL making by throwing alot of OS on the market. They raised the prims too so le made tet's not fool anyone into thinking they thought people wouldd use them to look at the forest and water. When the sims were put on the market there was a rush. it's LL faults if people rused to get the sims and stopped using the mainland. I didn't open an account in sl for this kind of trouble...when u think about it we're talking about things that actually do not exist. But the money i paid and invested is very real. and it's even worse for the shopowners....and NO u can't put a cap of the number of avi's visiting shop on an open sim. It would still ruin their business. SL is wot we the citizens have made it. Without us it is nothing a pile of servers. Our builders and artisans create things that give us pleasure. I spent a fortune decorating my sim buying things from gifted craftsmen. Make no mistake...meddling with OS will have serious repercussions for everyone. A 10% increase...even a 20% increase I consider reasonable...more than that is a rip off.
Hey there. You'd be better off commenting on the Forum Thread
To Toapz, think about this, there's what, 60 people allowed in a sim all at once now? A REGULAR sim. It used to be 40. So why would it be so terrible or so much worse for an OS sim to be limited to only 30-40 people in it at one time? They were designed for a much smaller load. They weren't made to take a lot of people and LL is just trying to meet the demands people are putting on these overtaxed servers and that requires money.
So long as the slightly more costly SIM type gets a fair prim increase to match the price increase, I have no complaints. It's bad business to force someone to pay extra for nothing.
Unfortunately, Kaebora, from what LL has said, the OS sims were never intended to have full use of all the prims they're allotted. It's more like temporary primmage so you can drive or sail through them without your vehicle being returned, so people can pass through, even many at a time without problems. The prims given to the sim, according to LL's statements, weren't meant to be permanent fixtures on the land save for a scattering of trees or grass or such here or there. People have been using up all these prims when they weren't meant to, the fault does lie with LL in not making it very clear and definite that "NO, You CAN'T use all your prims", but that doesn't mean they can't decide to charge people for the way it's being abused. They're raising the price to over what people are already using up.
To Satu....my OS never has 40 - 60 people and no sim I've ever been to ever has. The occasions are few and far between. Shops never have that kind of traffic and private sims like mine shouldn't be made to suffer. I shop alot and i have never seen those types of crowds in one place. And what exactly do they mean we can't use the number of prims allotted. I repeat...they put these sims on the market to make cash....no mention was made of what use could be made of them. and btw i don't know if you've noticed but crashing and lag are not restricted to OS.....they were there long before. Put 60 avis on a regular sim at a concert or gig and crash. Something LL never bothered to address. And i'm afraid u're making the devil a saint. The fault lies solely with LL and if they are genuine then they can give us our money back and take the sims...but NO they are raising the tiers. May I remind u they raised the tiers a year ago by 25% before the OS issue. It is also very bad timing....with the world in recession sl is a luxury....most people will say "hey what am i doing" and just log off and cancel the account. No one is about to pay that kind of money especially not now. if they want to scare people off they r going about it the right way.
I Totally agree with Toapz. I own a medieval roleplay sim. Few months ago i decided to buy 5 os sim to have ocean around the realm. Ocean to saile and to have mermaids and that kind of stuff. I payed 250 dollars for a sim that suposely allows me to use 3750 prims, so now i have ocean, i have very small land to terrarform as a bay, i have some trees and sea flowers and in some of them i have a very small island. In none of them i have residence or markets or clubs. In any of them there is more then 10 avatar at one time. We rezz boats to saile into those waters, to go from a sim to the other. So now linden change it mind about it? Or they want to punish me because other people made business out of those os sim? Well that is not my problem, is it?
What i am gona do?..asking a refund for all those os sims i bough, because you know what? to have an ocean vew you cant saile on or swim on or do nothing on it, you dont need to buy a sim at all. If lindenlabs had offered sims with 0 prims allowance on them, nobody would have buy one. This all thing feels like they were misleading us from the beginning, making us spend millions of dollars to buy sims and now they put us into the dilema to either pay what ever they ask us for or to abandon the sims to them. Either way they wont loose. This in the real world would be comndaned with jailing. I cant beleive such a big company in a land like usa is getting away with this kind of deceaving and robery. They sure have a great team of lawyers in there. I guess in the rl world a company would give me my money back...right? well i am waiting for lindenlabs answer. Hispa, that is what this proposal is to try and save. To spare those who are not abusing them. Odd though, I thought they said you could only purchase OS sims in fours? Or was that including your regular sim?
Anyways, yes, if you have used the OS properly like you described, then this plan would save your prices on it and only make those who have abused the OS sims upgrade to the pricier ones. you can buy only one os sim if you already own a full sim. That is my case. I have a full sim and bough os sims to have waterways around the realm, also bough a second full sim across the ocean..well..if i abandon those os sims i wont be needing the last bough full sim either.
Well I have been on regular class 5's with over 60 people sometimes 80 or even 100 and didn't crash. Slow yes but still operating. Depending on the event going on. You are correct if you go back 3 years ago no way that could happen. Now it is possible.
I have to agree that the increase is too much. LL should have considered this. If the prim usage was for sailing or other tempoary usages, then they should have 1. made that clear and 2. put safe guards in place to keep the BUILDABLE prim limit down. They have the full source on the sims of their disign, don't tell me they can't put a simple block for regular building prims but allow others passing though. For example all they have to do is set the prim count at a certain ammount yet allow a bit more on a tempoary basis. Say a hour or two it anything over the normal prim limit gets returned. Simple. I do think they were missleading or just plain mentally deficient to not see this far into the future (though I doubt that). As for buying OS sims in a pack of 4. That USE to be one of the requiements along with owning a full standard sim and having the OS sims next to your main sim. Earlier this year they removed the 4 pack rule along with needing to have it next to your main sim. And shortly after that uped the prim limit. Well gee there was a run on OS sims....now why in the world do you think that was? LOL They were even boasting about it in the blog back in .... June I believe that land/sim sales were up by 129% (or something to that effect). Then a few months later they say "whoops we never ment you to use the sims like this and wellll we need to raise your rent". It does smell of a set up as the old saying goes. I think its a great idea.. I own a private Sim. and I think if you are willing to buy an openspace sim its YOUR duty to inform whom ever you rent to ect.. of the Sim status. alot of the openspace sim owners take advantage of the word "OpenSpace"not caring for rules. .. Everyone always nags about lag.. well if LL does this.. it will cut back not only on lag but it will improve the quality of each sim. Anytime you have to much in a small space its going to have draw backs. Things have gotten out of hand with the OpenSpace sims.. you cant even walk or it crashes you because there are 4 on one server.. There is a reason why there is only 3000 prim on each OpenSpace sim.. its devided among the 4. If you want more Prims.. or space.. buy a private sim.. or check out the auctions.theres the OLD saying.. " you get what you pay for" this is no different.
First I want to say, i believe the purpose of selling all of us the open space sims for so cheap in the first place and also lowering the price of the islands was to get the little guy ... Us to spend. which we did. Linden was able to purchase the extra needed servers they wanted for another plan of theres. Just imagine, the price of airfare, hotels, meals. imagine Huge corporations all over the world being able to sit at their desk and attend a conference with out spending anything but the cable bill.... Well Ladies and Gentlemen all of us paid for those servers to make that kind of thing happen. the problem is now we all are in the way. we are causing the program to be unstable. so why would big Corporate companies want to invest. so SL raises the prices cleans house, and uses our investments for bigger and better things. End of that story.
Next story is I have put in my ticket to convert 4 of my open spaces. After i refunded over $40,000 in rents to my tenants. Linden now tells me, It will take 5 to 10 days to do the conversion. Hummmm I wonder if I will get 5 to 10 days of credit on the tier. Well it is getting interesting, I think I would change my tune some, if they kept the homestead prices at $95. I could live with that. We will see. Boy Linden you certainly opened a can of worms on this one. Very interesting. |
