Instead of raising prices on OpenSims, Lindens could create the MiddleSims, with half resources, half prices in relation to Full Sims, and talk to and make people overusing OpenSims to migrate to these.
That would preserve the great idea OpenSims are and would not punish people that are using them correctly.

Instead of raising prices on OpenSims, Lindens could create the MiddleSims, with half resources, half prices in relation to Full Sims, and talk to and make people overusing OpenSims to migrate to these.

This MiddleSim concept sounds like a good idea to me.
LL, if you DO raise tiers on OS sims you are going to bring on a flood of land into the market, causing it to tank even further than it already has.
Additionally, a great deal of destination businesses will likely have to close, thus creating a loss in sales for those of us who vend in those places and a lost of jobs for those who work there. Less L$ being earned means less spending overall. Are you trying to replicate the disaster that is our RL economy within SL as well?
