 Description  « Hide
When one brings up friends IN game.. nothing shows up.. neither those ON or OFF line show up.. some show up as (WAITING) and maybe 2 others will show up. Attached shows what I see... i have over 50+ friends... yet i now only see two, both are offline..I have logged on and off again, several times, cleared cache every time I do, to no avial.

Users in friends list do not show as online, even when they are online. If you IM a friend, when opening the IM tab, they are listed as offline. If you then send an IM, they receive it and they then appear as online in the friends list. (This is not 100% consistent - still fails to display correctly sometimes)

This does not affect the IM or chat systems directly, but causes confusion and degraded user experience.

For me, the friends list is broken both in game (same results as posted) as well as the website (showing "Friends online has been temporarily disabled.")

meade paravane - 26/Apr/07 08:12 AM
I'm tempted to upgrade this to at least critical - it seems fairly widespread and breaks a large part of SL.

Leroy Whinstanes - 26/Apr/07 08:23 AM
This is a problem with everybody that I have spoken with on this issue. What happens to me, though, is everybody on my f-list is on the f-list, but none of them show online until _I_ send an IM to one of _THEM_. Somebody sending an IM to me doesn't fix it, but only after I reply to it do I get the "RESIDENT_NAME is Online." notification. This is not a critical bug, though, because your livelihood in SL does not rely on the friends list. So please leave it at major until something related to this appears.

meade paravane - 26/Apr/07 09:35 AM
> your livelihood in SL does not rely on the friends list

Uh.. Maybe yours doesn't but many people use SL for its social aspects and this problem totally breaks that.

daisyblue hefferman - 26/Apr/07 11:02 AM
I, and all of my friends have had this problem, too. No one on friends' list shows online until they im you and you answer. This is a MAJOR problem, and needs immediate attention. Previously, we could go to the website for this info, but that is not available to us now, either. After 2 successive clear caches 1 following the other, this prob was temporarily alleviated. But this morning was back in full. MAJOR.

Torley Linden - 26/Apr/07 11:14 AM
I've had this problem too. Can you please check if this happens when you log into *any* region, or do online friends not display for you in certain regions?

RacerX Gullwing - 26/Apr/07 11:55 AM
this happend on a private sim and at my home on the mainland and I tried logging out and in at least three times each place

RacerX Gullwing - 26/Apr/07 12:18 PM
just reread the start of this I do see all 500 or so of my friends on the list just none are online. I turned on notify me if anyone comes online and the fist 7 messages I got were people going offline.

nika talaj - 26/Apr/07 12:44 PM
I rely very much on the "friends online" community page, and very much want to see it restored. Should that be a separate bug?

Last night, my Ingame friends list was incomplete, with <waiting> and <hippos> as well. No one showed online until IM sent to them or vice versa.

Tryed it this morning with Alt, and ingame friends listed appeared complete, with presence working fine for that AV. Did not try my own AV again, tho.

I am still having issues with friends showing up after the downtime this morning, my friends are all on my list but none are showing logins or logouts. The game is all about communication and i believe this issue is critical.

Furia Freeloader - 26/Apr/07 02:55 PM
This issue is extremely critical. It affects everyone, and has widespread secondary effects. Relogging does not help. This should be the #1 priority for LL to fix right now (after 1.15). Please acknowledge it in the linden blog as well.

aemi fujita - 26/Apr/07 03:44 PM
It really doesn't seem to matter where you log on, friends list just doesn't work. I am sure its the same for everyone, and EVERY friend I have found so far is having the same problem. I hope this is considered a highly critical bug - SL is very close to useless for me if I can't communicate with people.

Torley Linden - 26/Apr/07 04:40 PM
I see my Friends list right now (in Shermerville Central); I logged in at various regions and sometimes, I saw it show up quicker than others (it showed friend names, but not online statuses in Mauve). Looks like it's being inconsistent.

Torley Linden - 26/Apr/07 05:14 PM
Boosted to critical, very hot issue -- lots of incoming bug reports on it.

Fluf Fredriksson - 27/Apr/07 12:33 AM
Just to confirm that on Linux client, it's the same problem. Friends list loads as all offline. [Always].
Friends become "online" if I IM them in game and they happen to be online. [Usually].
Appears to happen in every region I've been in. [About 5 regions tested].
I have 2 friends who did show an alert for online / offline. No idea why they are special! [Spook!]
Also. Some IM messages not reaching me and being bounced out to Email as if I was offline. IM system then reports to sender that I am offline. Not good. [Though it does cut down on stalkers] :P
Good Luck Guys!

WarKirby Magojiro - 27/Apr/07 03:08 AM
>This is not a critical bug, though, because your livelihood in SL does not rely on the friends list.

When I do custom scripting work, i regularly communicate with clients. I use my friends list to tell when they are online, and they do likewise for me. If neither of us knows the other is online, questions that are critical to the project can go unanswered for a while, and cause delays.

Time is money.

Melanie Milland - 27/Apr/07 12:47 PM
I run a business in SL. I use the friends list to track my employees, so I can see whom I can call on when a customer shows up. I am losing _,massive_ business through this, since I simply cannot tell who is available.
Also, when I do contract work, my clients cannot see me, and I cannot see them. This makes for very slow communications and delays completion of projects.

For me, this is a showstopper. I'm not here to run around and look at things, I'm here to run a business!

ginseng kyong - 27/Apr/07 02:00 PM
Yep... this is one of the main features of SL. We all log on to hang out with our friends.

It puzzles me why something like this would even happen... I mean it was working.. what happened? What Enhancement caused this to occure, how about just roll back to the older version of SL that works.. why are the Lindens forcing us to use this new buggy version?

meade paravane - 27/Apr/07 08:21 PM
Any update, Torley? Even getting the web version back up would be a huge help!

Elliott Eldrich - 28/Apr/07 05:35 PM
I am also experiencing this problem on my OS X client. This is proving to be a rather unpleasant bug, it would be good to see this resolved asap.

Samm Submariner - 29/Apr/07 03:31 AM
I've now seen this happening the other way around. i.e. someone still appearing as Online on the friends list after they had gone offline.

Oddly, as far as I'm aware, this problem does not affect scripts querying online status via llRequestAgentData

Patrice Cournoyer - 29/Apr/07 08:11 AM
This happens on a Mac too- 1.15.02, OSX 10.4.9

Fluf Fredriksson - 29/Apr/07 09:13 AM
Torley (and any other Linden!)
Any chance of an update on the website blog on this issue?
I realise the blog is no longer a forum for people to comment on this kind of issue. But that doesn't mean we don't moan about it in game. The same "Isn't SL buggy" conversations still happen except now most people don't check the JIRA system and it isn't public on the blog.
I really do appreciate all the work you guys are doing, and I know you are re-shaping the bug reporting system. I'm just saying it needs some tweaks in feedback to residents. Most of the poor souls have no idea if you know about this problem and are ignoring it or not. (Same for the website friends list problem).
Respectfully.
F.

EnCore Mayne - 29/Apr/07 09:58 AM
both issues have internal SL-40433. this post is earliest reporting of bug

sue saintlouis - 29/Apr/07 10:50 AM
I have exactly the same problem as Del Mauriac :(.
Logging into different region does not appear to make a difference.

InProgress Linden - 30/Apr/07 11:55 AM
This is a HIGH-priority bug for us to fix, closed this as dupe, keep checking SVC-85 for changes. Marked in-progress.
