WOW yes what idea ... we really need this .. i speak Arabic mainly and my English is weak i wish to speak Arabic in chat write in Arabic letters , this make everything easy for me to communicate Arabs
Yes ... i would work my self to translate anything and everything into Arabic
Thanks for your interest The big hitch for this may be how the client supports Right to Left languages at the interface level. I honestly don't know if it does at all.
Well... at least we just need Arabic letters to be activated inworld to help every one to write in arabic, and if we can translate the whole website into arabic that would be fantastic thing ler every one just go and read in arabic. About the user interface and such things inworld , i would prefere to find that all just english like the original, but if it's possible and okay i would work to be support person for Arab.
This would be a wonderful move from LL to add the Arabic letters, specially with the increase of the number of arabs using SL. We would love to use our language letters in our communications as other cultures do, like Japanese, English, Korian, chines, and others who have their letters supported in SL ..

I would love the Arabic character set to be added. I am a multimedia University Lecturer working in central London with a lot of Arabic speaking students. I am learning Arabic and would love to be able to use it in SL. Also I know many of my students would use SL more if they could use Arabic. I can't see it is any more difficult to implement than Japanese and many of the other character sets used in Sl for some time now.
Come on Lindens, Arabic speakers are in many countries over the globe. It is a major world language and SL already has many Arabic styled sims including a virtual Mecca. The language also has a huge cultural background, influencing the style and design of architecture, crafts, and art. It would be a revolution in SL... Very amazing idea! I vote for Spider Mycron to translate everything, as he said above...
I would like to add my voice to this too. I can only speak a few words of Arabic but i don't see any reason that it should not be included in the languages used on SL. I have seen lots of Japanese used and that looks more complicated! Come on Linden Labs! Open SL up to all!

This is a very important issue. Yes. Please do it.
Being able to write and interactive in arabic in SL would be wonderful. I think a lot of Arabs are intersted in SL but the language issue still a big trouble for them . And personally I think SL is the best , and everybody from all over the world should be able to use it and enjoy it,
Please consider adding the Arabic language to SL ... we would appreaciate it It's just a matter of time and resources, and priorities for LL, I'm sure. I bet if they announced they were going to make it happen, a lot of volunteers would come out of the woodwork to help. A great idea and natural evolution for this platform/community.
Linden Lab does not accept community help for translations at this time.

so to translate or help resident with Arabic language is not any problem at all .. i'm doing this with all my interest and been really honored to do something for Linden Labs @Strife Right-to-left support is already in SL for Hebrew. Which is a much smaller market, so I'm honestly amazed that Arabic isn't already supported.
(Edited to note that VWR-112 seems to imply that Arabic is already supported, but that it currently displays in the wrong direction; this may be related to @ Samantha
 Thanks so much for what you said , but we are talking about how to add Arabic letters if we able to work on the website and UI i would love to do it my self for LL with all the pleasure. Arabic letters just different than Hebrew and it start from right to left direction ... looking forward to see if LL kindly going to support this . Thanks again I represent the Al Andalus Sims in SL, including a group of approximately 300 people. We have weekly citizens meetings, and this issue was brought to our attention by one of our citizens. Many of our citizens speak Arabic as their first language, and would really benefit from the addition of Arabic letters. As you might guess, many will not be able to represent themselves here to vote. They have asked me, on behalf of the community, to register our support for this JIRA. Perhaps if we translate it into Arabic, more would be able to vote?

at the same time you can imagine having more Arabs in SL would increase the market and that could be great support for LL to keep it up forever as we all wish Hello !!!!
any chance yet ? we still waiting if you please help to make it work, i'm back from vacation and hope to do a lot of cool stuff for sl I am fed up of constantly writing Arabic in english letters and using all the numbers to represent letters not found in the english language.. cant wait till we have a proper arabic platform in sl!
I feel VERY strongly that adding Arabic script would be an immense benefit for Second Life !
Not only will that make it easier for Arabic speakers to join and participate, but it would facilitate the function of better and more consistent translation tools for those of us in SL who do not speak Arabic. This will help people reach across barriers of language, and there by help us all know each other. And anytime we can reach out across barriers, linguistic, cultural or otherwise, we all benefit, in SL and Real Life. I urge everyone to support improved Arabic support in SL. install an arabic language academis, here, in sl. So, please, take place in your agenda about supporting arabic language in sl. Please consider adding arabic to the languages supported here. The arabic population is increasing and with the arabic letters available will surely contribute to more people joining. As SL is growing its only fair that all languages will be available. Hello, I do believe that SL as a virtual community for everyone has to support our language which we need to commicate each other and to represent our culture as a part of the community.
Actually I'm one of the Arabian in SL .. What I want to say is that there are many Arabian people in SL and many have Premium accounts. And what's more is that many of this people don't even know the English language and have a hard time when they are trying to communicate with others !
We Arabian people do enjoy the sl and like to express ourselves more by being able to talk in our own language .. If that happened we could even invest more .. in both our time and L$ I have read the comments posted so far but surely it can all be said in very few words: Arabic is a major world language, spoken as a first language by many millions of people. Any international multi lingual system should include Arabic if it is seriously hoping to last. As well as being spoken as a first language by millions, it is also important as a second and religious language. It is one of the major languages of the world. Come on Lindens.

Please help spread the word so that we can get Arabic added to Second Life. This is long overdue! I join my voice with all the people here.
I urge LL to take a serious look at how they can implement Arabic language inside SL. If they manage to get this done, it will then be a piece of cake to also implement Hebrew language, which is also right-to-left and thus is not displayed correctly. If SL is to be a platform for public diplomacy, as it should be, then people should be allowed to express themselves. And there is no better way to express oneself than in their own mother language. The Arabic-speaking world inside SL desperately needs Arabic support in the viewers and I think this issue cannot be delayed any further now.
