Move Infohubs to regions containing no Resident owned/rented land

Created: 10/May/08 06:39 PM   Updated: 15/May/08 08:34 PM
Component/s: Miscellaneous
Affects Version/s: None
Fix Version/s: None

 Description  « Hide
This is a general issue, but the original description is retained below with its specific mention of Bear:

The Bear Infohub is a popular place. So popular, in fact, that it compromises business and other landowners in the sim and creates problems for them getting to their land. Landowners have repeatedly complained about the sim being full due to popularity of the Bear Infohub. This is clearly unfair to both landowners in the Bear sim and those who use the Infohubs. The landowners should be allowed full access to the resources they are paying for and the Infohub should be located in an area where its impact will be lessened (or at least welcomed.)

Closing/moving the Bear Infohub has the following benefits:
1) Landowners will be able to access their properties and use their land.
2) Infohub regulars will have a new location in which to gather and create the sense of community that the Infohubs were designed to do, without impacting other landowners in the sim.
3) LL employees will spend less time mediating the ongoing hostilities and abuse reports flowing from the area.
4) Forums will no longer be regularly filled with angry threads that only escalate the situation and force people to choose sides.

It is a win-win situation for all involved.

I have to side with the land owners on this one as this is, essentially, a denial of service situation.

The info hubs or whatever means used by the Lindens to create welcome areas for new residents, should be placed on Linden owned sims with no other land owners.

Moving the infohub would indeed remove a particular resident's need for visual griefing and verbal harassment.

"What I have made of Ryan's plot is in direct protest to what the infohub has become. Your not suppose to like it."

This person is obviously very distraught over having an infohub in her sim, so I think the best thing we could do to insure her continued happiness is to seek an alternate location for it.

Changed title to make this look like the general issue that it is.

Unvoting because it no longer applies to just Bear, which is the only sim that seems to be having this problem on a regular basis.

Nope not voting for this. The name InfoHub indicates a central point (hub) where information can be sought (Info) and I think they were aimed at people travelling around the mainland otherwise why is this any different from Help Island?

I believe this is not a general issue, and should only apply to Bear. Other sims with resident-owned land have welcomed InfoHubs, such as Isabel, but the current situation in Bear is hurting new user retention. That specific Bear InfoHub should be moved into another sim with resident-owned land, as with the many other successful InfoHubs.
