System skirt textures turn invisible on wearing

Worn skirts not visible. Going into edit appearance makes them appear normally. After closing edit appearance, they appear OK for a half second, then go gray, then disappear. Inventory shows them as worn when they are not visible. Problem appeared after installing latest viewer today. Only skirts seem to be affected.
Clearing cache, then relogging makes no difference.
To me, this is major as I'm unwilling to be in sl unclothed.
