User Story

I have been seeing this ever since the introduction of the interest list project.

Typically I see this occur when an agent enters a region, sits on an object and changes its position to a higher altitude(commonly between 500-1000m), all while out of my FOV. Only when I cam to their actual position does the icon update correctly.

Other information

Some tpv's radars and prim owners list icons are also affected by this showing them not in the region.

Hi Lucia, thanks for the report. What are the exact repro steps to make another avatar appear in the southwest corner of the region's minimap?

I tried the following with 'Second Life 3.6.1 (278007) Jun 27 2013 04:34:55 (Second Life Release)' on 'Second Life Server 13.07.08.278357', but I'm not seeing any strange minimap behavior:

  1. UserA: login to a region and move your avatar to ground level (~30m for me), and orient your avatar such that your back is facing a large part of the region
  2. UserA: open your minimap, and verify that the 'view cone' is narrow
  3. UserB: TP to a place in the same region which is behind UserA and roughly the same elevation
  4. UserA: verify that you see a new agent dot for UserB, at the correct position
  5. UserB: rez a box, and sit on it
  6. UserA: verify that the minimap dot for UserB is still in the correct place
  7. UserB: edit the box, and increase the elevation (z-position) by +1000 meters, and hit enter
  8. UserB: observe that the box has disappeared and that you seem to be at the same elevation (this is a separate bug, which has already been reported)
  9. UserA: Observe that UserB is in the same horizontal position on the minimap, but that the 'dot' has changed to a 'chevron' (indicating that UserB is significantly higher than you)
  10. UserB: stand up from the box, and see that you're falling down from the high elevation
  11. UserA: Observe that UserB is in the same horizontal position on the minimap, and that the chevron eventually reverts back to a 'dot', when UserB gets to nearly the same elevation as you

Maestro, this may be related to the reports of invisible avatars since the interest list changes.
What Lucia describes here also happens on Firestorm and I added some comments HERE to BUG-2820 that seem to indicate that the avatars are not actually invisible but incorrectly render in the corner (including their dot on the minimap showing in the corner) of the region until active group tag is changed.

Its very inconsistent. Heres the closest forced repro I came up with:

I went to the region, Kenophobe, where I see this happen literally everyday.

The landing point and build area are all on the same parcel, I moved north of the landing point to 123,230 and faced south towards all the guests.

There were about 5 people on the ground using sittarget objects, mostly pose stands.

I turned my draw distance down to 32, waited two seconds, turned it up to 144, waited two seconds and repeated.

After about 3 ups and downs, mostly when I increased my draw distance, 3 of the 5 sitters got forced to 0,0 on the minimap and their avatars dissappeared from in-world. Moving or camming to their script reported positions or to the sw corner failed to rerender their avatars. This is such until they stand.

I also did this on the ground in the region, Venusian, which is all one parcel and contains many sitting bots on the ground. I moved to the north and faced south turning draw up and down, then moved south, faced north and repeated. This forced 5 out of the 7 bots present to 0,0.

This only seems to work in regions that are bordered with other regions.

I have a repro which seems to be 100% consistant for this.

Not only does the minimap icon show at 0,0,0 but a ghost of the avatar is also showing at 0,0,0 to any observers.

  1. Teleport to http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Cabria/103/64/2492 with AltA

  2. AltA sit on any pose in the hot tub here.

  3. AltB teleport to http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Cabria/1/5/18 and cam down so you can see whats happening at 0,0,0

  4. AltB open minimap & observe where the dot for AltA shows.

    What AltB sees when cammed down to 0,0,0 - they see Alt A at 0,0,0 animating with whatever pose is playing up at altitude.

    (In above images its actually my friend sitting in the tub so the 2 dots at 0,0,0 are hers and my AltB standing close to 0,0,0).
    AltA is up where the hottub is observing her on Firestorm.

    If AltA stands up, Alt B can no longer see them at 0,0,0.
    If AltA sits again on any of the poses around this same skybox, AltB will again see them animating at 0,0,0.

    If AltA sits somewhere near ground level, AltB will not see them at 0,0,0 so I think this only happens when the seated avatar is at altitude.

Thanks Whirly, that Cabria repro is also working consistently for me (tried on both Agni and Aditi). I tested on Second Life Server 13.07.12.278519 and 'Second Life 3.6.2 (278900) Jul 22 2013 14:18:35 (Second Life Release)'

This bug (or something very similar) appears to be back on Second Life 3.7.9 (290582) Jun 2 2014 18:53:52 (Second Life Release).
It was first noticed by Ansariel Hiller on Firestorm after we merged in viewer-interesting.
I can reproduce this on Firestorm with interesting and also on Second Life 3.7.9 (290582). It does not reproduce on builds without the interesting code.

Repro seems essentially the same - avatars sitting on scripted pose balls up at altitude show their minimap dots in the wrong place and if you cam onto them, you can see them animating underwater.
However, instead of them showing at <0,0,0> they now appear to be at <random wrong x, random wrong y, 0>.

I'll file a new issue once I get a decent repro. Currently Ive just been able to reproduce it while randomly cam perving :D

Quick example:

Here we see Birk and Frutger, as seen on a pre-interesting viewer. This viewer displays their minimap dots in the correct location and when you cam onto their avatars you see them in the correct place.

On current default release, their minimap dots are in in the wrong place and when cammed on them, they show underwater playing the animations from the pose balls they are sitting on. (Excuse the naked guy ;))
