 Description  « Hide
1.23RC Search filter works by dropping words from the input if they match a filtered list and the current maturity checkboxes chosen. The OUTPUT can and does contain results for adult venues. Thus it fails at its intended purpose of filtering adult content. Also, single words often have multiple meanings which depend on context, so some results which are not intended by policy to be inaccessible, are by the way the filter works.

It is proposed to use a weighted filter on the input and/or output rather than simply dropping input words. This would allow terms such as "breast cancer awareness", which only has one questionable word, to get desired results, while "Tits and ass strip club", having several would be unlikely to be mistaken for the bird tits and the equine ass. Specifically, each filtered word in the input or output has an associated point score, and a total score above some limit causes the result not to be displayed.

I like the idea, but there will be people looking for ways around the filtering, and will find them. Such a system will require monitoring and periodic adjustment.
